I'm taking the course and not only am I learning about the Nx800 which the informations is excellent, but I'm learning so much more. Other youtubers might say "these are the best setting that I use" but you are never are told why and for what reasons you set them a specific way. Take the course and your knowledge will be transports years ahead.
Fantastico. Ethereal. Never thought surfin could be so calming. I got ur course. Your scene 4 and 5 are great. I will use them for sure this year. This camera matches well with my FX30. Thanks for this
My respect, Doug, for this new document of your skills! I have studied your Masterclass PXW-Z200 course several times with joy and concentrated attention and have tried out your valuable advice successfully on my NX800. What I still lack is your 40 years of experience, but I'm working on it...
The white water in the sun is always tricky to get right. Yours looks great. I generally don't shoot surfers but do beach weddings. I have just about finished the Z200 course, watched a few chapters a few times...and still no Z200 in my hands. Hopefully shipping out next few days. I sent back a second used 280 and decided to jump into the new! Got a lot from your 280 course too.
Blown away on how far auto focus has come. These images are impressive as well as the talent behind them. Just invested in a Sachtler Aktiv 6 myself as suggested in your wildlife training class, mr Jensen. Can`t wait to open it upon arrival and start shooting with it :)
@@DougJensenVortexMedia I was born in Norfolk VA and my brother in Jacksonvile FL. My mom grew up in VA and my dad is a San Diego native. They lived and met in Florida.
My first surfboard sponsor was Sharp Eye Surfboards, when I was 14 and I was one of the first team riders.. Now Sharp Eye is one of the top surfboard makers in the world and several current world champs ride those boards. Pretty cool that in this video, you have a shot of a guy riding a Sharp Eye at 0.56
Thanks. Everything can be improved upon in post. No camera (not stills or video) can create an image right on-board the camera that won't benefit from grading. Everything needs grading. Yes, there are some situations where my scene files will be "good enough" for some clients to use right out of the camera, but that is not my style. I like grading in Resolve where I can take things to a little higher level. How do you do power windows, gradients, selective adjustments to just parts of the picture, etc. on-board a camera? You can't. When I say "graded" I am not talking about just dropping a LUT on everything and calling it good.
Great video as always Doug. What is the XAVC-I format you're using though? There isn't an internal recording option on the NX800 from what I've been able to see so far just the XAVC S-I format. Thanks!
Yes, technically the format is called XAVC-SI. But the "s" is irrelevant and I don't usually include it when talking about formats. The difference between XAVC-I and XAVC-SI is that one is in a MXF wrappter and the other is in an MP4 wrapper. Other than that, they are the same thing.
I am a bit late for the party. Doug I paid for the Master Class when it just came out and I was praying that it was worth every penny! And it was! So for anyone on the fence thinking about it, Just DO IT! Great short video there Doug, was you using S&Q? 60 or 120 FPS? I have a gob coming up in the summer that requires either FPS but I have not been able to go out due to health reasons. I will take a guess and say it was 120, but I may be wrong. Once again, thank you for working hard and providing the Master Class.
Hi Mark, I''m happy to hear that the Z200 master class met your expectations. Always good feedback to get. This video was shot with S&Q Motion @ 120 fps. I can say with 100% certainty that I will never use the camera's 120p recording mode.
@@andyarts8382 Okay I see. Those would be called rods, not rails, that's why I was confused. I'm not sure how such a system would even work on this camera, but the answer is no. I used my Sachtler Aktiv6 head and Flowtech75 legs. Perfect for the Z200.
Nice work Andy. I'lm be traveling through Banff and Jasper next summer on a road trip to Alaska and I hope I can get some nice shots like yours with my Z200.

Thanks! That is EXACTLY what I aim for in my training. It is not good enough to know "what" . . . I want people to understand the "why".
This video is proof that while the camera can be important it's the talent behind the lens that matters!
Too complicated to describe here, but my AF settings and focus-tracking shooting techniques are covered in my Z200 Master Class
Can you tell me more about your scene file? Is it based on Slog3 or S-Cinetone?
This scene file uses the camera's S-Cinetone mode as the base look.

Practice, practice, practice! 🙂 And have find doing it.
This video shows how capable that camera is.

Nice Doug, glad to see you out shooting the surfers at the beach again. My parents surfed that beach many times. Bobby D.
Cool, Bobby. I didn't know your family had east coast roots. I thought you were San Diego natives.

Great Doug!!!👍👍👍
Great job! So even though your “Doug 4” is good to go right out of the camera, you still tweak the colors in post?

been waiting for this exact video of surfing on this camera... did you use s cinetone?
I used my custom scene file called DOUG4, which uses S-Cinetone as it's base look.

Hi, what is the custom Auto focus settings?
Thanks! Having a good Sachlter tripod and head makes a big difference.
@@DougJensenVortexMedia are you using a rail system?
@@andyarts8382 I'm not sure what you mean by rail system?
@@DougJensenVortexMedia The lens support system to have the camera not shake as much when zoomed out.

Meanwhile it’s zero degrees here in Indiana. But nice footage 🫤
