Hello. I think you did fabulous job explaining it all. Makes so much sense. Those celebrity pictures were great and boy Marilyn Monroe sure was one gorgeous Lady. I got one eye bigger than the other and usually looks crazy in the pictures. I am not ugly ! Thanks and have a great weekend Lou 👍💗👋
Paivi Project most people don’t know this.. but Marilyn Monroe had some plastic surgery on her face before she became famous! Look at older pictures of her when she was a brunette. Her eyelids were puffy on top.. and her cheeks were less defined. She also may have had a nose job! Just saying.. she had a little help even for a girl back in her time.
People usually look better in person than they do in a picture, that is what I've seen. And even better in a picture so consider yourself attractive. Photos distort things a lot.
I have a solution for acne, too. (Sorry) :D Use something with at least 5% Benzoylperoxid. It doesn't have to be expensive. It fixed my skin and the skin of a friend of mine. It is pretty hardcore stuff though. Bleaches towels and bed sheets and makes your skin very dry at first. BUT you will see results quickly and it even works against big pores filled with bleackheads. I wish I had made before and after photos.
I try to make sense of this and believe it, but every time I see a friend in a photo, they always look normal, even though to themselves they look bad or distorted. To the people they know, they look the same.
that's because you're used to seeing their real face which is what is shown on photos so it looks normal to you whereas when they look in the mirror they see their face flipped and therefore think they look distorted when they see a photo of themselves as it's not what they're used to
Because you see yourself everyday in a mirror and notice every flaw, where as when you look at someone else you arent looking at their small flaws. In photos you always notice a stray hair, how your leg is posed, or whatever else and judge it. Someone else looks at the whole image of you and doesnt zoom in on small details like you do so thats why to them you look fine in the photo.
okay you all say this, but my friends recognise that the camera makes me look awful too, and i see that they look wonky in the mirror..so which is it that we normally see? they say i look the same in the mirror
I just got my new drivers license picture taken the other day, yiiikes. I looked like a deranged deer in the headlights. I heard one gal across the room get told, "This ain't Glamour Shots."
Thanks for video. I have spent some time thinking about this topic -- probably too much time. I like my selfie image and my mirror image -- my actual image, not so much. That's life and the best thing I've found is to no worry about appearance so much. Smile and live your life -- that's what makes you beautiful!
I really like the way you joke about things, it's very natural and subtle, classy. I think that because I'm an artist and I use this method of flipping my art all the time to check of inconsistencies, I ended up getting used to seeing things flipped so they don't bother me as much as most people. These tips are fantastic, though! I really love seeing how camera lenses can change the way we perceive things.
Yes I commented in your last video about lens distortion, I personally think its the biggest factor. For the longest time i used to think my lips were too big for my face until i realised that its just lens distortion. Same goes for my nose as well. It depends from person to person, the distorsion is not always to the same feature. Also i doubt it has much to do with the flipping of the image coz these days you can always flip the picture the way you want it. What we see in the mirror is the best representation of how we really look like. Another thing that reduces distortion is of course increasing distance between you and the camera and the bigger the lens the more it will show you as people actually see you. Its really sad when we start to think that what we see in the camera is how we really look like. Seriously trust your eyes more.
there's a free app called true visage where you can see your mirror image reversed to how you look to others. i often check my eye makeup in it because for some reason that helps when i do my uneven brows.
ever since the first time I realized the way I see myself in the mirror is not how people see me (sounds stupid) i’ve been so, so, so self conscious. I have a crooked nose and smile, but as of recent i’ve began to realize I think i’m the only person who really notices it because i’m not used to it. learning everyday to build my confidence up. great video!
I’ve actually wondered why I look better in a mirror forever and a day. I’ll be in the bathroom and looking in my mirror like ‘damn girl you look good today” then I get outside, take a selfie and I’m just like “damn”
🌸 I don’t think anyone is ugly, as an artist I’m facilitated with different faces etc. I’ve never seen an ugly face, not even if you get older. It’s our imperfections that makes each of us unique and stand out from rest Wear your confidence on your face, chin up and don’t put yourself down. This lady is right....no one has a perfect face, but there is true beauty in all of us 🌺

LOL OK so I'm not sure Lou...I loved the first one, it's how I found you and subscribed and I did not come away with "I'm ugly" IN FACT it was just the opposite...I felt better about myself. Hopefully, this one does the trick but for Pete's sake LOL those people surely were not subscribers already because anybody that watches you knows you would NOT insinuate people were ugly much less say it LOL Have a great week! xoxo Mary
I love your videos the tape 1 cracked me up you are beautiful the way you are,You explained this so perfectly Ive hated having my picture taken since i turned 40 but now at 57 i honestly couldnt care less I look like crap but it shows on my face every painful thing ive been through it shows the grief i feel after loosing my 34yr old daughter but if i look at it i also see how strong ive become over the yrs of all the painful things ive indured in this life time. But people need to feel beautiful in the deepest part of their soul Take down the mirrors in your home 4 awhile & just keep meditating on how beautiful i am,as long as you are living a healthy life style & your heart is full of love not anger, jealousy, ect, eventually you will start to feel it,& it will radiate out of you. When i look at people now all i see is whats going on in there life because it shows I dont see ugly,Thats a terrible word, always smile & have beautiful thoughts
I think we've had unrealistic celebrities to compare ourselves to for so long, we don't realize 99% of people are just average looking. Its very rare you pass someone on the street and stop in your tracks to do a double take. We don't realize that 1% of "beautiful" celebrities spend their life working to constantly look perfect. Its their obsession and job to look perfect. That's basically their purpose for existence. Yuck. So, you may be average compared to the hollywood beauties, but you're above average much more interesting, deep and compelling than the hollywood beauties.
I've learned to see my true self by using a closet door mirror and opening it both to 90 degrees and to flip selfie pictures of myself. I'm only 17 and i will try my best to develop and improve, also to love myself : )
From an art prospective, I see this woman as beautiful. Didn't watch the video for her, but still... easy on the eyes. Interesting explanation. Nice video.
I understood the first video, and this clarifies the ideas behind the first. I hate my picture taken, I hate selfies, formal pictures, and even some candid pictures taken when I wasnt ready, because, its goofy or whatnot. I think I look better in a mirror. And the reasons you gave in both videos make sense.
you are so sweet dude!!!! thank you for this video and the first part, didn't make me feel ugly, just have a more realistic outlook on how people may see me. All of you guys are gorgeous and charming in your own way, i promise!
I want to add a theory i came up with the past days concerning how other people see us. So.. I’m convinced that we are used to our asymmetries which we see in the mirror every day that we don’t even notice them. however we recognize them on a video/picture since these are flipped. I guess our brain can’t unsee the asymmetrical features nor ‘progress’ that picture to a symmetrical face. The question i struggled with is: how do other people see me? Do they see the mirror version or the camera version of me? I believe they see us the same as we do in the mirror; flipped but they also tend to blend out the asymmetries which is again equal to our mirror perception. Ever stood in front of the mirror with a friend or family member? They look pretty strange right? I think seeing them in the mirror is the ‘parallel version’ of seeing ourselves in a picture. So as a conclusion: a picture of us is as strange as seeing someone else in the mirror and other people see us the same like we do in the mirror
That's why a good professional photographer can get better looking pictures! We have techniques to help the subject relax. One trick I like when I'm taking a portrait is to have the person look away from me, and on the count of three, look back at me and smile. It makes a more genuine expression when I snap right as they look back at me. Try it!
You are so adorbsies! I don't get to watch you much but what a special lady you are! Love your style! Great explanation of why cameras basically suck unless someone catches you when you don't know it!
Simple explanation...cameras arent as good as human eyes especially phone cameras. Thats why i hate selfies or other things cuz the light is different from what u see in real life and in camera lol...
My mind has literally been blown. And now I feel so much better knowing all of those factors have a huge roll when I feel like I can't take a good picture! (love the candids
I think I look good in mirrors and selfies (even without the use of angles). However when someone takes a picture of me I look completely different. Like my face looks wider and my lips becomes thinner. It’s weird. People that look at my id always tell me I look different in real life. I think I’m just not photogenic
So true, ngl in the mirror and in selfies I’m drop dead gorgeous but when someone else takes a picture or video of me, I look like a completely different person and not in a good way :( I look so so so so so different compared to how I look in the mirror and in selfies. I look freaking disgusting yet I get told I’m beautiful 😅 anyways I told everyone to start taking pictures of me on selfie mode so I can see how I actually look and know if I’m looking okay or not :””)))
You're such an amazing human being for creating this video. I always wondered if the lighting makes my face beautiful and how ugly i could be but today I learned that people see things differently and we never like ourselves because we tend to desire thinga that other people have and you just cleared my confidence in the best way possible.
I suspect the mirror, because camera's are a digital version of your face, angles on a photo taken on a camera can change how someone looks, mirrors are not digital and will be pretty accurate, obviously it is the flip side of you but it is close.
Amon Ra 2000 yeah but how come in some mirrors I look different ? Like at my home mirror I look nice, but at my school bathroom mirror I look really terrible..
I didn't know that about the flash but definitely know I don't want 7 years added to my appearance because of one...yikes! Great info! Love your hair! xoxo
A Master Class explanation, thanks Lou! I miss the good ole days of pre-digital, lower-definition cameras, where fewer pixels created a natural filter that would softened any imperfections or edges...
Something else that I tried that might make you feel better is if you take a picture of yourself and look at that picture in the mirror (like hold your phone up to the mirror) and compare it to your face. It still won't look quite right, so it's the camera that is changing the picture, not just the fact that it's flipping it. So irl you don't look exactly like you do in pictures so don't worry too much :)
I feel so much better after watching this and readings the comments. I never realized the reason why I looked horrible in pics was because I was flipped. I honestly thought that the picture was the more honest representation of what I looked like to others and what I saw in the mirror was all wrong!
I don’t think you mentioned anyone being ugly I don’t know what people are on about I actually found the other video very helpful to understand my angles in a picture I never realized the preference point you talked about so when I ask my friends about a photo I hate they seem fine with it and not see what I see it’s a very interesting subject
I gotta say, I learned that cameras are b*tches ... seriously... I can’t handle myself on the camera... but I also have body dysphoria so... that doesn’t help. So at the end of the day, how we look on camera to ourselves is not how we actually look? It’s just ... our eyes playing tricks cause we aren’t used to it... Makes me wonder what people thought when the mirror was invented lol
Great video!!!! One option that I found and use A LOT is the photo option (I have a Samsung S8) MOTION PHOTO. It records a short video clip of what happens before each picture is taken. When reviewing the photo, I have the option of playing the short clip (sliding my finger left and right to view the clip) and can capture any moment. I've found that sometimes I look better in the split second before a photo is taken, rather than the actual photo itself. Hope this helps!
In the mirror: yeah looks okay somebody take a photo from me: who is this creature?! take a selfie with filter: look good :D take a selfie without filter: urgh >.
This was great Lou! And eww to the flash. At 50 the last thing I want is 7 years added on. Oh, loved that Friends episode!! 😁Have a great weekend beautiful! ☺
I think this is a good video and an interesting one. Thanks for sharing. I actually said this just the other day...i was like how come i look pretty good in the mirror but its so hard to look that good in a picture! And i have also noticed that yes pics that others take of us usually come out better than a pic we try to take of ourselves and i figured that is why models look so good.
I think I know why that happens. When we’re heavier our bone structure gets lost under all the fat. We lose definition in our jaw & cheek bones. When I’m skinny all my definition is there & when we take a pic the shadows & light bounce off the bones & creates angles. So that’s why we look better in pics from any angle when we’re skinnier.
THIS VIDEO WAS GOOOOD! I’ve always wondered why I looked great in the mirror but it just didn’t always translate well to camera. I actually thought my eyes, which have severe astigmatism, were deceiving me by creating some kind of filter that made me look blurred to perfection, that my camera obviously doesn’t have lol.
It's sad in a whole different way that some ppl "learned" that they were ugly. I think this video's predecessor was the one that got my sub. This is about one's self perception... which we should all understand isn't 100% reality. Summary: We like what we are accustomed to. When we see it differently... we still prefer what we're used to, even if it's not particularly better.
I didn't think I looked different in a picture then in person until I got older. I don't think I'm adjusting well to seeing myself age. Especially since my insides do not match my outsides. But what can you do?! It's life. I'm just going to be me. A few years back I made a conscious choice to not shy away from pictures, so I could be connected with other people. Nobody cares what I look like. Embrace who you are. Thanks for the share.
I firmly believe that people see me exactly as I see myself on the mirror, aside from my opposite reflection, details like pores and wrinkles and shapes must be as visable as I see them because I see them with human eyes, the same lense as they have. Whatever is on the picture is captured by a gadget, a fake lense. Accordingly I do my make up usually when I film. Its funny how also the make up that always looks good on my camera lenses, looks absolutely terrible on the mirror and vice verse. So keep orienting yourself on the mirror, thats real life- not what you see on the camera!!!
I refuse to allow people to take photos of me. People think I'm weird, but I know they're just TRYING TO SABOTAGE ME. I have a lot of issues...
Omg same I've never related to a comment more

Her eyelids were puffy on top.. and her cheeks were less defined. She also may have had a nose job! Just saying.. she had a little help even for a girl back in her time.
People usually look better in person than they do in a picture, that is what I've seen. And even better in a picture so consider yourself attractive. Photos distort things a lot.
I do not think that I am ugly, I just hate my skin because of my acne. If I had clear skin I would be so much more confident with the way that I look.
SAME!
Use Calendula cream to clear your skin. It works.
If your acne is recurrent just take 13-cis-retinoic acid and be done with it in less than 6 months
bathe with 10% sulpher soap. problem solved. youre welcome.
I think another thing is in pictures we are seeing us flat where as in the mirror we are seining ourselves in 3D.
Mentioned that at 5:00
skip2mylou oh oops must have missed that part
Emily H It was easy to miss!
That is an amazing point!!! Never looked at it like that
Nope you’re still seeing yourself in 2d. 3dimensional beings can only perceive 2 dimensions
You're so wholesome. Thanks for brightening up TH-cam today.
I just got my new drivers license picture taken the other day, yiiikes. I looked like a deranged deer in the headlights. I heard one gal across the room get told, "This ain't Glamour Shots."
You are so caring about peoples feelings Lou, to do this follow up video, thank you doll!
I always wondered why my nose looked do big and my hair so flat (despite having puffy hair) when I took pictures. Thank you!!
Ouch! So sad that people see don't see their inner beauty! Outer beauty fades, inner beauty will always out shine our outer beauty!
Thanks for video. I have spent some time thinking about this topic -- probably too much time. I like my selfie image and my mirror image -- my actual image, not so much. That's life and the best thing I've found is to no worry about appearance so much. Smile and live your life -- that's what makes you beautiful!
Lori Rees True words of wisdom! Celebrate what you have, bc whatever it is... it's not gonna last! 😂
Your selfie image IS your 'actual' image.
The selfie image, or front facing camera, is flipped like a mirror.
Just downloaded it and wow my eyebrows are so off!
I’m going to download it now. 😊
Thats how i am too with my eyebrows. Thank god someone knows the same thing 😂
Omg. My whole life is a lie, but still better than I thought. 😁
Ok. Pretty scared to see what others see. I already hate most of my photos and my reflection.
ever since the first time I realized the way I see myself in the mirror is not how people see me (sounds stupid) i’ve been so, so, so self conscious.
I think my confidence just shot threw the roof! Thank you so much for making this video!
Oh my God you just took the question right out of my mouth so true why is that??? Please do tell
Sam Vue your asian you must have lots and lots of questions

🌸 I don’t think anyone is ugly, as an artist I’m facilitated with different faces etc. I’ve never seen an ugly face, not even if you get older. It’s our imperfections that makes each of us unique and stand out from rest
Wear your confidence on your face, chin up and don’t put yourself down.
This lady is right....no one has a perfect face, but there is true beauty in all of us 🌺
I saw this in my feed and thought HUH? I already watched this a long time ago how? what? LOL OK so I'm not sure Lou...I loved the first one, it's how I found you and subscribed and I did not come away with "I'm ugly" IN FACT it was just the opposite...I felt better about myself. Hopefully, this one does the trick but for Pete's sake LOL those people surely were not subscribers already because anybody that watches you knows you would NOT insinuate people were ugly much less say it LOL Have a great week! xoxo Mary
Glitzy Fritzy Thanks, Mary!
Can you do a hair tutorial? It’s perfectly waved... need to know how you did it!
K Account she did a hair tutorial not too long ago.
I saw that one (the lob) but this is a different hairstyle... I think
K Account This is my hair a day AFTER styling it like I did in the lob video but I am too lazy to do it again!😂
skip2mylou wow it turns out so well!!
BEST is braiding it damp before bed. I wake up with the most beautiful hair!
Cheers🌞
From an art prospective, I see this woman as beautiful. Didn't watch the video for her, but still... easy on the eyes. Interesting explanation. Nice video.
Flasback is my enemy! I just love life & roll with it, good or bad pics. Have a great one Lou! xo
I learned I really am beautiful, so thank you!! 😘😘😊
Yes!
you are so sweet dude!!!! thank you for this video and the first part, didn't make me feel ugly, just have a more realistic outlook on how people may see me.
I wish someone could test this theory with twins 😅
ITS TRUE! i tried it with my sister her nose looked crooked. what the camera sees is not what others see!!!!!!!
I've always felt I looked better on photos from further away, I've never liked selfies. Now I know why! Thanks for the explanation 🙂
Thats why i hate selfies or other things cuz the light is different from what u see in real life and in camera lol...
i know right!!! the colours are so different on camera it’s infuriating
I think I’m just not photogenic
thats because, the front camera of the smartphones, specially samsung has less mega pixels and probably has some filters than the normal camera.
I’ve never related to something so much
Bree Stewart wow I’m happy to know I’m not the only one haha
Thanks for raising my self confidence b ❤️
Awesome video, luvd your explanations. Always wondered why I hate my pics being taken
soo... the way we really look to another person, is it closer to the way we see ourselves in the mirror or photos?
I suspect the mirror, because camera's are a digital version of your face, angles on a photo taken on a camera can change how someone looks, mirrors are not digital and will be pretty accurate, obviously it is the flip side of you but it is close.
Amon Ra 2000 yeah but how come in some mirrors I look different ?
Like at my home mirror I look nice, but at my school bathroom mirror I look really terrible..
Some mirrors are better quality or some are altered like in clothing stores, the mirrors are widening or slimming.
Mirror
Ok actually, you helped I actually feel beautiful. Everyone is beautiful to me, the personality, the kindness, all make someone beautiful.
I didn't know that about the flash but definitely know I don't want 7 years added to my appearance because of one...yikes! Great info! Love your hair! xoxo
she's so beautiful, even the way she speaks is beautiful
What we learned in this video
•You're not that ugly
•Lucy Liu is perfect
• Marilyn Monroe is perfect too
Agree...and "you" not ugly, but me- ugly as a hell!
A Master Class explanation, thanks Lou! I miss the good ole days of pre-digital, lower-definition cameras, where fewer pixels created a natural filter that would softened any imperfections or edges...
Well said. "Pretty is as pretty does..."
You are pretty and smart. I have learned something new and it all makes sense! Than you much!
so is what we see in the mirror, what other people see?
ML leena i hope so
No
Little Tomato No, if you take a picture with the camera app on your phone that is how other people see you.
If you part your hair to the right:
- In the mirror it will be parted to the left
- In real life, people will see it parted to the right.
@@user-xl4lf9yj2f NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! MY DREAMS ARE RUINED
I look great in pictures but so much better in the mirror. Was puzzled why, thanks for explaining.
I’ve done this a lot and I look a lot fatter and asymmetrical in pictures compared to the mirror 😂
Wow!! Fantastic video. I'm going to share this with everyone!! Great job. I'm looking forward to seeing more videos by you.
People are beautiful. Acne pocked, disfigured, golden ideal, whatever. Just damn beautiful.
Very educational, thank you! I've asked this question, about myself, so many times!
Ohhh I always look decent in the mirror but when I’m on the voice call I hate the way I look
This makes me feel so much better. Thank-you!
Well, I realized that camera loves me, reality hates me but mirror... well, he uses to forgive me pretty much. Interesting vídeo.
Your background set-up is so beautiful!
In the mirror: yeah looks okay
somebody take a photo from me: who is this creature?!
take a selfie with filter: look good :D
take a selfie without filter: urgh >.
"WE LOOK DIFFERENT ON PICTURES NOT UGLY!" what I learned😘
This was great Lou! And eww to the flash. At 50 the last thing I want is 7 years added on. Oh, loved that Friends episode!! 😁Have a great weekend beautiful! ☺
That +7year rule is baloney. (I'm a prof. photog.)
The camera also puts 10 pounds on us. So that will make face look different.
Love this! I watched the original video and was fascinated by it as well.
Idk when I’m really skinny I look good in 90% of my picture very effortlessly and when Im very over weight I look bad in 90% of my pictures
Same!!!
Same!
Yup! 🙋🏻♀️
I think I know why that happens. When we’re heavier our bone structure gets lost under all the fat. We lose definition in our jaw & cheek bones. When I’m skinny all my definition is there & when we take a pic the shadows & light bounce off the bones & creates angles. So that’s why we look better in pics from any angle when we’re skinnier.
man im skinny but my face is still chubby genetically RIP ....even when i was anorexic and hospitalized i still had chubby cheeks
You are awesome!! Best person to have dinner with!! Absolutely its all about lighting camera and angle the rest doesn't count!!
Well done and fully excavated! These things I have always wondered about and now I feel better, Thank you! good research girl! #girlpower!
I knew flash was evil all along!
Great job with the info! I haven't seen the 1st video, but you made me feel like I don't need too with this video. It's complete.
Thank you for this explanation. I'm glad it popped up as a suggestion on my feed.
Am I the only one to prefer the mona lisa flipped?
Really helpful.
Many thanks......all the way from London !
I learned I'm beautiful! 🤗
Yes you are!
This was SO INTERESTING! Have subscribed, looking forward to seeing more vids from you xx
i never take pictures not just with strangers but even by myself my gallery has no selfies haa.
So keep orienting yourself on the mirror, thats real life- not what you see on the camera!!!
sedameansstrong I really do hope the way I see myself in the mirror is how people see me.
Yaku Hane anything else wouldn‘t make sense cuz they look at you with human eyes, and when you look in the mirror, you do too.
