I had a really bad case of this when I was a bit younger.. I've always been okay with how I look in the mirror. But seeing myself in photos was always so off-putting and devastating that it legit lead me to develop an eating disorder at one point.. yes, it was THAT bad.

the mirror is the most accurate.. Its shows accurate lighting and more detail of ur face but just flipped.. Look at other people in the mirror and they would look exactly the same as u see them without the mirror. When he says "not seeing ur true self" it actually is ur true self but flipped... either way, u will still look the same to other people as you do in a mirror but just flipped.

another thing to take into account is that a picture is a flat image. your eye sees in 3d so it’s more accurate. some people usually mention their faces looking fatter in pics than in real life, that’s why. a different camera lense will make you look better

This is one of the first times I’ve heard someone refer to an ex with positive words without cracking a joke or making a face. Just thought that was pleasant and refreshing :)
Something that I find that helps with the front facing camera: 1. Take a video and do a bunch of poses or whatever and then go and screenshot the frames you like. 2. When you just take a photo with the front camera, going into edit and there is a mirror option and that also makes it look better. (The mirror option is next to the rotate option on iPhone in the top left corner.)
but wouldn’t that just be giving yourself a false image of how you look.

All true! You just forgot mentioning that the appearance of any three-dimensional object, including our face, is also determined by the perspective distortion. Wide angle lenses (like most of the cameras on our smartphones, especially the front camera) will show proportions in a fairly different way compared to a 50mm lens (which focal length is known to better simulate the human eye perspective). So this is one major aspect to take into account when comparing your reflection with a photo. Then of course, the dynamics of lights and shadows in photos cannot easily match reality without any post-editing. Love your contents, by the way!
Also we cant forget that lenses are lenses, they can make some things seem bigger or smaller. Get a somewhat curved iteam and take an inverted pic of it and the object will seem more curved than what your eyes see. Like for example a smile, or maybe an eye on a weird angle, in camera lenses you can look completely different due to camera angle. Try it out! :D

Pictures can actually represent you in good lighting, but typically a mirror is a more accurate representation of you but reversed. You lose detail in your eyes, hair, and face without good lighting in pictures and wide angle lenses can make your face appear longer.

Honestly, we all look the same front camera, back and mirror. The only difference is our mentality. It’s literally all mental. People only assume they look different because their brains aren’t used to seeing them in a certain way.
Do this: take a bunch of pictures with the back camera instead of the front. You will notice that you’ll start to look the same as in the mirror- and better. Stop always relying on the front camera, and your mirror. Train your brain to see what you look like with the back camera. You will start to get used to your face, and actually like your face more! I started doing this and realized I look the same as in the mirror😃.
(Also, only have people who know how to hold a camera take photos. Beyoncé could even look bad, with a terrible angled camera)

This doesn't mention that when you're looking in the mirror that is 1 meters away you're actually seeing yourself from 2 meters. When you take a picture from 1 meter away it looks like it's from 1 meter away.

It's not actually all about the reflection. A big part of it is depth of field. Many people take selfies with the front camera, which can't capture depth as well as the rear. This is in turn makes your face look flat and therefore different.e

One major aspect is the focal length of the camera. That's actually a reason not to use the phone camera, because it has a very small focal length which will distort the picture a lot. Whatever is nearer to the camera will look very big (for example your nose our your lips) and everything else will look much smaller, your face is also becoming more narrow.

I think the biggest factor is that a photo is just a still, 2D image that is frozen at a specific angle, expression, pose, etc. Might not be flattering compared to being able to move and see yourself in real time with an actual body.

Other ppl see u just as symmetrical as u do in the mirror but just from another reflexion cuz their used to that version.
If they would just delete reflected mirrors & cameras we wouldn’t have this issue: but its still a good way to spot ur asymmetry’s & improve them

Majority of skulls found 500 years ago have perfect teeth, and strong prominent jaw. This is because they ate a tougher diet that built up the jaw not a sugary one that wore the teeth down. Most of our jaws are too small for wisdom teeth, meanwhile everyone had wisdom teeth back then.
Also mouth breathing has been found to have terrible effects on the face, because it makes the jaw so weak. Fix any allergy problems if your nose is stuffy.
Also things like drinking water, getting enough sleep and having higher testosterone will have make a huge difference to your eyes and hair.
Also you can grow a beard, look at a picture of james harden before and after a beard and you'll know how much a beard can change your face.
Finally looks don't even matter that much anyway, I've seen ugly guys get called attractive because they're confident and funny, I've also seen good looking guys be called ugly because they have no confidence and think they're ugly.
Tbh looks matter. In more areas in life than just one. Genetics matter. The way you eat matters. A lot of factors go into it. But not all guys are attractive. You can be confident and funny and still be an unattractive guy. (I'm a straight female so that's my opinion and I'm sure other people share the same) some people can find u attractive based off that alone but not everyone.

Hi everyone! A little word of advice to those who suffers from their asymmetrical face.
That's what i'm doing:
Instead of avoiding looking at your face unmirrored and falling into this little depression every time you realise it's not as perfect lol - i decided to GET USED TO IT.
So basically i look at my unmirrored face everyday. Take selfies, shoot videos, look at frontal camera and switching this mirror mode, not avoid videocalls with your face unmirrored etc.
Yes at first it is not very comfortable, but in a few days (i do it for just for a couple of weeks) you are getting USED TO IT. It will take a little courage to accept that your face might be a little less perfect that you thougt =D , but it is really much easier to accept it now and get used to it rather than get dissapointed every time through your entire life. IMHO.
I feel much more comfortable with my face now !
So i would recommend to consider it and give it a try!

Actualy our eyes are 576 megapixel so the phone IS not accurate like human eyes and i realised Something if you use a good quality camera its will not give you a very accurate picture of youre real self, but anyways i did the same thing like you, i took picture of me every Day and now i prefer frontale camera over the miror lol 😂 but to conclude : any camera is not as accurate as human eyes

Can‘t agree 100%. For example: i got a „lazy eye“ a liiittle bit (or hanging lid), when i look in the mirror i can only notice it a liiiittle bit but in pictures (selfies and normal ones) i notice the lazy eye a lot more + my body proportions are extremely different. My face looks a lot fatter and my body too

It's encouraging, i been having self insecurity about my facial asymmetry and never want to take pictures or photos likewise videos, but been always wondering why others keep saying i look fine; now i know why, because the way i look like in videos or photos is the same way they see me in real life so they're not surprised, rather than me who sees a different self in the mirror and photos. Now i understand amd i gotta ignore that for now, though i will go for facial correction measures nonetheless.... Ty again

Mirror practice really impactful, i do this for like a year or quite sometimes, and u will know ur best angle, how you smile and everything, you will see your charm and thats what u looking for, when u found it, u will be more confident about yourself & make u feel prettier coz u know u pretty, and you are pretty, u just don't know ur charm yet. And take a picture by your back camera, coz it matters, it will give you a perspective of what people seeing u

I think it’s also worth mentioning how camera lenses can distort your face and even body into looking different and that then looks bad because you’re not used to it.
Seriously there is something that bothers me, I often hear that we don't look like what is in the mirror, it's true that the mirror reverses our left and our right, but apart from that we are fine agreement that, the facial features (eye, size of nose, jaw, mouth) and the skin that we see in the mirror are indeed the reality that others see in real life??
Another reason could be the resolution of your selfie. When you're looking the mirror, you're looking at the highest resolution possible with the naked eye. But, when you take a selfie, it's limited to whatever resolution your device is capable of.
A 1080p photo is more pleasing to look at than a 360p photo. 4k is more pleasing than 1080p. Real life resolution is more pleasing than any digital resolution
(There's also the natural lighting that you see being reflected off your skin vs a digital recreation of what light looks like)
