- IN THIS VIDEO WE EXPLORE THE ABANDONED RAF FOLKINGHAM WITH A RUNAWAY OF AN ABANDONED VEHICLE GRAVEYARD LEFT BEHIND.
HISTORY
Opened in 1940, it was used by both the Royal Air Force and United States Army Air Forces. During the war, it was used primarily as a troop carrier airfield for airborne units and as a subsidiary training depot of the newly formed Royal Air Force Regiment.
Today the remains of the airfield are located on private property being used as agricultural fields, with the main north-south runway acting as hardstanding for hundreds of scrapped vehicles.
RAF Folkingham was originally established during the Second World War as a decoy airfield, designed to draw enemy attacks away from RAF Grantham, located on the eastern edge of the Lincolnshire town.
After the war, it was placed on care and maintenance during 1947 when the RAF Regiment relocated to RAF Catterick.
The station was closed in 1947, and in 1949 became a test track and workshop facility for BRM. It was here, in December 1949, where the team's first car was shown to the press.
In 1959, Folkingham was re-opened by the RAF as a base for the Thor Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile, and BRM moved its facilities to North Witham on the south-western edge of the county.
In 1963, the RAF base closed for the second time when the Thor squadrons were disbanded. BRM moved back to Folkingham, but remained there for only three years, until the site was sold for agriculture.
Today the remains of the airfield are located on private property being used as agricultural fields, with the main north-south runway acting as hardstanding for hundreds of scrapped vehicles.

The "truck, boat, tank like thing" Is a GMC 353 DUKW amphibious truck that is very dead but, the steering box with rudder control is unique to them and very rare. Worth salvaging. The strange twin steer truck is an American build twin engined snow plough. Also a Bedford RL Light Recovery, a Bedford QL aircraft refueler and what looked to be an early Coles crane.
Live down the road from this 🙌
That's cool went to the robin hood little John pub soon as finished up on this explore definitely nice bar there 😁👍

Very sad. Only the Govt or MoD could afford this level of waste...
That's true such a shame
That was an amphibious vehicle for driving on land and can float on water. Mostly used by the army..
Thanks for information 👍
That was a DUKW amphibious vehicle from WWII, known as a 'Duck', produced in large numbers by General Motors they were based on a GM 6X6 truck and quickly turned out for D-Day, after the war many found employment in civvy street.
