Ngl the road map looks pretty good the permiem account is going to be the normal sl is going up the grind is not going to be that hard anymore but tbh I could just be fan boying because I have fun in the game
When I saw the roadmap, there was this.. spark in me. A little flame lighting the insides of my dark, War Thunder crippled soul. "Could this be?" I wondered. "Is War Thunder.. becoming great?" And as I sat there a little tear formed under my eye. Yes. This is it. War Thunder is going to be fun.
@@martinxd94st of premium vehicles that have a tech tree counterpart are exactly the same with very few differences such as having like a operator country (Su25K is czech) or different camouflage or looks (German command tanks with antennas or named pilot aircraft or MOST top tier MBTs and AIRCRAFT). But some have slight advantages (directly or indirectly) that gets players to buy them (rocket m26, prinz eugen with more AA than admiral hipper, saab 105 OE, etc.)
I honestly feel that naval is overhated just because everyone is used to the fast paced action of tanks and planes and when they go to naval and it’s slow, they automatically think it’s trash and boring.
@@kongou1912that sounds like a personal skill issue I have no problems with the maps but Im still confused how the torpedos work I fire em but they don’t hit lol 😅
@@jamesmoore4856Personal Skill issue??? In what way did my comment impy something about my performance in those battles. To your question about torps, you cant guarantee them hitting. You are firing 80 knots max (I think) torps at around 3 to 15 km at moving targets at around 30 knots speed. You hit through volume and luck. Guns are the only reliable way for 2 surface ships to hurt each other. Just out of curiousity, which class of vessel are you playing?
Naval is super flaws at low tier as with coastal fleet boats fight 3.0 br and above with reserve vehicles, some nations air trres have no real anti ship warfare such as the soviets while others have super good naval warfare such as the us naval plane and bomber line, blue water fleet is shooting at each other from 6 ks away while you slowly chip away at each other, overall naval is extremely half baked and is poorly put together,it could be fun as a mix of slow paced game play with blue water and fast paced fun with coastal but it feels like nothing was thought out
I can personally assure you this is a very accurate review. Ive got over 4000 hours at the game, and played since like 2016. And the grind has slowly become worse and worse every year. At this point i have stopped spending money on the game, and almost stopped playing it since i dont really progress anyways. Also i have not had a decent amount of SL in a long time because of the repair costs. Comparing this to the fact that i have been in the top 3 best squadron (group of competetive players) in the entire game, that says a thing or two about how bad it has become lately... -----Edit------: After the roadmap updates, the grind is easier. Its thankfully not as problematic anymore :) Playing for fun is now possible again🎉
Its a shame really, I think this game could be even more of a powerhouse if they just made the grind reasonable. Grinding for stuff can be fun, especially if the game itself is fun (which War Thunder is), look at Destiny and Warframe, for example. I have completionist tendencies and would totally try and grind all the tank trees if it was reasonable to do that - but this game just doesn't respect your time.
@@Tymptra Agreed. The game could be so much more than a money making machine. It used to have a deeper meaning. But that time is sadly long gone. Lets hope they finally fix it in the next update, after all the complaints
Gonna just hop in and say (in good humor) that being in a top 3 competitive squad doesn't mean anything. Competitive matches are vastly different from the casual game. Comp matchmaking actually incentivizes teamwork to win since 2v2/4v4/6v6 is most common matchmaking, you have a team and have to communicate between them to effectively deal with the enemy. Meanwhile casual matchmaking are a random queue of up to 16v16, and your participation does not mean much in winning the battle or doing well since everyone is off doing their own thing with you all by yourself. Being good at one doesn't mean you are good at the other. One requires communication, the other requires total awareness. Anyways, enough of me crying skill issue, and about how comp players are just sniffing their own farts. I do agree that the grind has gotten awful, and Gaijin needs to do better. From what has been announced in the roadmap it's promising to see the changes that they are going to make to the economy and progression, but as a friend said, "Trust is something that gets broken in an instant and takes eons to rebuild." I'm cautiously optimistic about the future of War Thunder. Gaijin has been put in a tough spot by the community, and I'm sure Gaijin will want to revert these changes the community has forced them to make a year or so down the line if they believe they can get away with it.
SPAA is my favorite part of the game. It's a great way to single-handedly turn the outcome of a match. Just sucks that the rewards for taking down aircrafts is so low.
I loooooove playing SPAA. I wish Gaijin would flesh out the U.S SPAA tree more. The U.S made a m24 chaffee with x6 .50 cals and Gaijin still hasn't added it lol.
My favorite SPAA is the Thor. It’s in fact the only ground vehicle I have in my chinese ground RB Deck. Nothing more fun than ruining the day of a pesky gunship which are way too strong. I would like to see a game mode with just tanks and no CAS.
The best way to nerf CAS without completely destroying it is have AI AAs in the map where AA zones can be captured. Which brings more variety in Ground Gameplay and make CAS more skillful
I like the general idea of this, but they need to very carefully balance the aim of the AI if they do this. If you play the Helicopter PvE game mode you know how cancerous the AI spaa are.
There is no need for that, they should only increase sp points for bomb/rocket loads You would be able to spawn a cheap plane without bombs for air superiority but for cas it should be more expensive. Pretty much any other way will impact the game to greatly. Like making spaa more redundant resulting in less players spawning spaa to counter cas.
@@Mr_Sakul Arcade battle exist and it is the more popular mode, in it, you cannot customise your plane loadout. Also, even planes with MG are a danger to open toped tanks and AA, so even without bomb CAS can be a pain. Just think of the american planes with their 50 Cal.
@@drouinfrank2 ground arcade works completely different from realistic battles. First of all you can spawn a plane almost any time, planes are easier to control in arcade, you can only fly for 60 seconds so it doesn't matter if you crash your plane or not, pretty much every enemy is visable in arcade mode, your plane is spawned way closer to the battlefield, you have unlimited ammo etc. There is no way to protect open top vehicles without making planes completely useless that is just the disadvantage of those vheicles that cannot avoided. Planes in arcade work completely different from planes in rb. Even if ab is more popular (there is no way to tell) most war thunder content on youtube is situated on rb so the problems that people are more likely to focus are the ones that are in rb.
Agreed. Also the grind is bad but its not as bad if you are willing to drop few $ on the game ($40 per year on premium account + $60 for jet + tank combo for GRB). I started playing in 2021 (700 hours so far) and I have almost full US air (just missing F-14B and 2nd F-16), almost full heli tree, ground tree is fully researched. Please mind that I only had XM-1 as a premium and the rest was grinded without premium vehicle. For Russia I am sitting at around 10.0 for jets and ground. China - full air tree (rushed with A-5C in 3 weeks) and 10.0 ground. Heli tree fully researched. Germany - around 8.0 - 9.0 So basically in around 700 hours I managed to research almost 3 biggest trees in the entire game and I can play flexible lineup at any BR. I am guessing that researching all War Thunder trees (without naval) will take me up to 2500 hours which is a lot but its not as bad, considering the amount of vehicles and content. The main thing is that I very much enjoy playing high tier BR and I dont even think about the grind.
As someone with roughly 1200 hours in this game. You covered just about everything that any new player should be aware of. One thing to keep in mind is that there has been a good number of positive changes that have been implemented in the recent months, in response to review bombing by the community. Also air rb can definitely be boring when you’re getting no kills or not doing much game after game, but when you find your niche it can be just as fun as ground rb. Personally in all of my time playing, I alternate between the two since I get bored of one and go to the other. It keeps things refreshing
One thing about the CAS segment, you do not need to get a kill to be able to afford a aircraft, in some vehicles you can kill a single crew and get enough for a plane with however many bombs.
what low tier swedish cas would you recommend? I tried bombers in ground rb and usually I didnt see anyone and when I did it was too late and I got shot
@@brkenppt2222this is the point. To feel powerful and annihilate enemy troops. I remember how even earlier one or two good players with hvars and rps could entirely change the course of the match. You could get 1 kill per rocket without even aiming properly.
"air Rb is Boring" I was like you once, I played almost nothing but ground for like 500 hours, played air once then quit cuz I died a bunch without kills, but Air RB is like crack, once you find that one plane that activates your almonds for the first time you get hooked, for me it was the Yak-3. Now its been about a year since I looked at a ground line up
Ong bro, highest I've got on Air RB is 6 kills using a low tier Swedish planes, not to mention the golden age of A6M6c, literally nothing at 4.7 can survive against it
For me,the plane that i love is the premium fw with torpedoes, his cannons just shred people and i can destroy at least two planes without landing at the airport (i have shit aim) Edit: now i am using the prem yak-1 in the german TT
The one that "activates my almonds" is the ki-44 Shoki. 4 12.5mm machine guns, a dedicated air target belt, great speed, great turning, solid climb, and all of it on top of a tiny body. Just beautiful!
if you're a masochist (like me as well) you would love air RB for the fact that it punishes you for just playing. Because unlike ground RB, imo it has more knowledge ceiling, knowing every plane's characteristics, combat maneuvers, guiding your shots. Though i kind of agree for the ooga booga climbing part, it's kind of irritating sometime to spawn and wait 2-3 minutes to sideclimb, and wait another 3-4 minutes to get to an engagement.
And then dive towards a group of enemies and allies thinking "aight I'm gonna give them a hand", only to be completely annihialated by four enemy aircrafts all locked on your tail while your allies are either dead or flown away.
I can't even play AB air bc I lose track of the aiming reticle with my shitty eyes. I really wanted to get good at it, but I just physically can't and changing the reticle type didn't help
I was playing AB battles for these exact reasons but after Rank II the grind has gotten so bad it would literally take days of playing to unlock Rank III vehicles. It might just be a skill issue but I can only get about 1.5 RP on intense battles
Something I'll point out here that my friend mentioned: naval can actually be a good way to grind out Silver Lions, because each ship can be used multiple times, and some can get some *really* good modifiers for lions earned. Might not be for you as far as a constant gamemode goes, but definitely worth it as a daily task for some extra lions if you turn auto-repair off! Also having finished the video - I enjoy the game, but I'mma probably stick to the lower tiers cus I ain't in the mood to deal with CAS if it gets *that* bad. Plus, I'm just playing Italy cus like any good Florida Man, I saw a big gun slapped onto a truck and liked it.
You made such a good video for newbies. I had problems with playing with my friends because they just started out and they're pretty bad, and this video certanly helped them out. You made my life easier!
As some who plays naval regularly, it’s definitely fun if you know how to play it. Biggest problem in naval ironically is CAS being completely useless. CAS needs a price increase in ground RB, but in naval it needs a decrease for certain planes. With gaijin adding in boats with AA missile on them you’ll spend 400+ points only to get shot down in air spawn. Thats on top of most high tier ships having good AA coverage as it is.
Hey, I'm one of the people with no life and a limitless bank account, so I've actually unlocked and played top tier tanks, planes, and most importantly, SPAA. So, speaking from my experience, I can tell you that top tier CAS, like mid tier CAS, is horribly broken in favor of planes. However, unlike mid tier CAS, top tier CAS is also horribly broken in favor of guided missile SPAA. Whenever I spawn in as a plane, or when I'm in my 11.7 SPAA and I see someone else spawn in, that plane (helicopters have it even worse) gets destroyed within 20 seconds, because the missiles fired by top tier SPAA cannot be broken with countermeasures, intercepted, and are incredibly difficult to dodge, impossible for helicopters. So, in practice, if the enemy team has 1 or more guided missile SPAAs in top tier, you'll probably die before you even reach the battlefield, but if not, then you'll get like 4 kills. In short, top tier SPAA and CAS isn't really fun for anybody, whether you're on the ground or in the sky.
Good to know! Been hearing this a lot! And thanks for actually listening and understanding I was only talking about kid tier CAS. A lot of idiots commenting who can't listen lol.
Lol I was there at Patch 1.35 in 2013 before "Convertible RP" (aka CRaP), the login roulette, the no joke free-to-earn-premiums events, and the exponential grind existed. Thanks this the righteous confirmation of rational I needed and still need to not play.
Yeah, the su25 may be boring once you get to the top tier air rb f-14 f--16 mig-29 mig-23mld flying into the furball avoiding missiles flaring notching using all the skill you learned from day one, pushing the limits of your plane where there's no room for one single mistake, there's no place to hide its kill or be killed you can't outrun a missile, you are forced to merge with the enemy and fight them it's a lot more fun than driving forwards to a spot and then point and click
A simple change that I would love to happen is, to get air rb and ground rb mixed in 1. That would make that a team in order to win easier after they earn air superiority, I think it would at least make it a little bit more fair.
And it you don't okay for a long time when you come back your first 5 or 10 games will be against players that are way worse than you so you get lots of kills amd you sorbd the next 6 months trying to relive that high
War Thunder or like it's fondly called "Wart Hunter" or "Secret Military Documents Leaker Simulator". P.S: Don't go around telling people of my Dicker Max.
I found you bc of this video and I already love your video stile and the small funny things. The videos are very balanced with fun, documentary and knowledge. Keep the good work and never stop!
I can tell you that everything you said is true I myself have grinded through 4 tech trees and it's ridiculous on how long it takes to a point I've spent 300$ on this game so seeing the new roadmap for the game makes me have hope knowing the MAYBE I can grind something else without have to buy another premium tank/plane
Did you know that oven doors have these little retention latches where the hinges go into the body of the oven? You can lift up and pull back the latches, using a screw driver to help loosen them if they're stuck down, then close the door most of the way while also lifting it up to pull the door out for easier oven cleaning. To put the door back it's easy, just get the hinges back into their slots in the oven body and push the retention latches forwards and down to secure them back into place.
I personally stay at 8.3 or around that spot in arcade tanks Over my 7 years of playing warthunder, i've switched over to the side of playing for the sake of fun. It allows me to take out a good tank like the t55-am1 and play for the sake of playing without having the worry of progression. progression is almost like a secondary bonus to me at this point
Fucking turms-3 fucking df105 and bmp-1 these 3 fucking annoying indestructible unkillable bastards and shitheads don’t let me enjoy 8.3 on finest magach’s,these trinity are my headache, and pain for the beautiful M111 round
I only play arcade now. I got over 1000hrs into gRB before giving up entirely. At 5.7 onwards CAS just dunk you. It's dumb and unfun to play. Ground AB at 7.3, how ever, is fun. And fun is where you should place your priority with this stupid ass game.
Bro, I legitimately fell all of the feelings you describe. From fear after getting disabled to over-the-moon joy when i get 3kills and no death after a string of bad matches.
I have 4000 hours in this game and i have entire USSR tech tree both aviation and ground aswell as some progress in other nations. This game is pain in the ass when it comes to unlocking and buying new vehicles, only to be dissapointed later. In your WW2 vehicles you will face tanks from 20 years built later which have HEATFS rounds so your armor doesnt even matter. Everything to mixed up,non competitive players get access to top tier vehicles for 60$ and ruin the experience for everyone trying to actually win and gain progress. Matches are unbalanced, maps are unbalanced,SL gain is pain, prices are too high for vehicles, repair cost is used as a " balancing" thing. (If the vehicle is too expensive to repair - players wont play it) etc.. I like the game for its originality but its sad to see what state it has reached. Wanting to play ground battles only to get killed by a Plane,Drone or Helicopter from kilometers away. I left the game,as i believe many did,and are hopefully waiting for the better days to come. We will see what Roadmap update brings upon us and if it is gonna, for once, make community satisfied.
A perfect time capsule to see how far Gaijin has come in just a few months. I've been playing for years and have around 1.3k hours. The grind is SO much better, and having Gaijin listen to us is a dream come true. Here's to hoping that in another 3 month's time that we'll have even more user friendly updates!
I think a good idea would be to combine RB Ground and Air into one mode, you get one free aircraft/heli(low payload options with spotting capabilities) and one free ground vehicle per match. Points are gained by completing objectives or killing opponents. There are air objectives like securing zones or eliminating ground bases as well as ground objectives like we have now. If you want to spawn in a second vehicle with a better the payload, the points required to spawn in that vehicle increases. Make crash landing extremely expensive or crew lock to punish revenge bombers.
For doubters, when he took off and set his course, then made a meal and read a book, that is legit. I have actually whatched 3 or so episodes of some random show and I still don’t get to dogfight. It is kinda sad. That’s why in realistic air, I play jets.
Should I get the game or should this be my last chance to turn back? I kinda want to be a dedicated AA player who also plays cool tanks like the T-34 and be the likable player
Depends really if your going down the path of russian tanks then be warned for a few things: 1. There will be lots of people that say that russian tanks are bad just ignore them and respect their opinion because it is a opinion not a fact, 2. Often the russian tanks you hear about being great and amazing do have the seem reputation in game to an extent , you will have to do some research on opposing enemy vehicles i.e learning weak spots , 3. Don't be mad if your shot doesn't penetrate gajin will always find an excuse or you just need to learn more about the enemy your facing. Last and positivaly not least playing a dedicated aa in the russian tank family (tech tree) is hard and that applies to all aa's. You don't have a lot of penetration against tanks and aiming against planes can be dificult. Play aircade mode for the majority of your experince and always check out tutorials if your struggling with certains tanks.
I'm with you: CAS is ridiculously OP. The other day was a new record for me. I got bombed at the 3:33 minute mark. The previous record was 4:01 by a PE8 that took out 6 of us. If you pull up stats post game you notice how rare a 3:1 kill ratio is for tankers. Much less rare for the plane guys. The guy in the PE8 had a lackluster stat card except for the PE8 with 415 deaths, 1495 ground kills and 60 air kills. Its easy to see why plane guys like Ground RB more than Air RB. Most players are tank guys or plane guys. Competent plane guys have better ratios in general than competent tank players. Then there are the folks who are truly amazing with all 2:1, 3:1 ratios in tanks (or more) and 3:1, 4:1 ratios in planes (Gods among us). Players that can do both are really rare but the edge is still planes.
yeah i'd say that lower tiers suffer from that but if u don't want to have planes pissing you off grind ussr no cas is spawnable bc of the pantsir system
@@ashrodrigues3571 I hate the Pantsir, it enables the russian team to have full air superiority whilst everyone else gets missile spammed by Ka50s and SU25Ks
Not to make this a competition, but Ive witnessed someone beat you by over minute. Team mate got three people with the Russian rocket truck right off the bat with across the map rocket barrage. Instantly respawned in a pe8. He killed TEN of them with the bomb. He had 13 kills in 2:20-2:25. Craziest shit I've ever seen. Game was decided instantly.
To be honest kd ratio wouldn’t really matter in low tier when everything cost only a thousand sl or less but the higher you go the more important it is
On the topic of CAS and SPAAs, due to the many frustrations caused by CAS, I've learned a few tricks for using SPAA effectively. 1. Be vigilant. Even if you're waiting for a plane to draw closer to you, look around, make sure there aren't other planes in the air. The best way to counter SPAA in a plane is to find one that's distracted, shooting at another plane. 2. Patience. As Tymptra said, your effective gun range is pretty limited. So wait, until that plane draws pretty close. You don't have to wait as long if you have something bigger like a 40mm (like on the M42) and being patient with faster firing 20mm guns is very rewarding. 3. Use terrain/buildings. They may be in the sky, but you have the ability to change your direction at any given moment. Peak out from behind hills, walls, and buildings to fire at SPAA, and if they try to target you, duck back into cover. None of these are guaranteed to turn you into a sky sweeper with 11 air target destroyed ribbons, but they'll hopefully be a big help to those of you who are very frustrated by CAS, and even more frustrated by how your SPAA isn't countering it.
Shit, one more tip. 4. Don't sit in spawn. Unless the match is almost over and leaving spawn will just get you killed, don't be afraid to play the SPAA as a support vehicle. It can be used to break barrels or tracks of things it can't penetrate (preferably a tank that's already fighting a teammate), and can rip up light vehicles. Not to mention, what use is an SPAA that sits in spawn when the real battle is happening around the capture points? I've personally used the M19A1 and M42 very successfully in this role. I have yet to unlock the M163 at 7.7, so for my 6.7 lineup, the M42 is my SPAA and even at this BR, I'm still seeing success with it, both against tanks and aircraft.
I'll be honest, I think having aircraft in the game for ground RB is necessary and super important because it is the most reliable method of preventing camping. The problem is revenge bombing and aircraft who have no idea how to use their ordanance to obtain objectives and help their team. I think the best solution is limiting aircraft to 3 per team at any given point. A team saturated with planes will lose and having a limit will help prevent revenge bombing since if there are already 3 planes then they cant physically spawn in.
The last tip is so key: find a lineup that lets you enjoy the grind. You won’t progress as fast but you will actually enjoy something that takes thousands of hours to do even optimally. Huge fan of the british lineups at 2.7-3.0, american at 3.7-4.0, german 3.3, russian 4.3-4.7, etc. 4.7 and 5.7 all have good fun tanks and are some of the most balanced BRs in my opinion. I’m also a ww2 guy so I actuvely avoid playing (and sometimes even facing) post-war stuff. The grind will end at about 7.0 for me… eventually
My biggest gripe with the game was and still is the progression. Back when I quit the game completely in favor of DCS (for more reasons than just the progression) I did an experiment a bit before I quit the game; Grinding to top tier France in the fastest amount of time possible by buying the BR 8.7 premium AMX-30 and spending every single minute of the day grinding towards that goal of reaching the Leclerc, to see how much time it would take me compared to the ground vehicle trees (Germany, Russia, America) I started grinding back in 2015 and 2016. Of course this wasn't just me playing a tank the whole, as I had already reached top tier in the aviation tree so I always made sure I had a CAS option in case I did end up dying once and needed to regain either a stock of spawn points or shift the course of the match. The whole thing ended up with me taking about 3 to 4 months... 3-4 months of playing nonstop Ground RB matches with a premium vehicle, with a premium account, for about 5 to 6 hours (sometimes even 8) every single day. The average kills per life was around 5 or 6 (because the latter 2 months got me really geared into how I should play the tank) and the win-rate was about 65% to 70%. This is ridiculous. Not to mention that my win-rate was far above average, as losing a match practically halves your RP gain at the end of it never mind your SL gain. On top of this you also need to research vehicle modifications for the non-premium vehicles to increase their abysmal value, stock vehicles are practically unusable in top tier. How do newcomers even have the motivation to keep playing this game, without at least buying a premium subscription?! The monetization, even for a F2P game, is downright predatory...
This a really good and accurate review, as a player with over 6000-7000 hours, I pretty much agreed with nearly all that you said. The only thing I only disagreed with was one of your ideas on how to make Air RB better. Giving an airspawn to all planes is not a good idea imo, as we have seen this situation with many maps such as the old City map. Attackers and Bombers are essentially screwed when all fighters (especially ones with good climb rate and have a ton of cannons/high caliber machine guns). One of the things that makes Air RB special is the fact it takes awhile to get to altitude and set up, as this allows for potential skillful plays to be made. Not to mention that planes that already have airspawns such as interceptors/heavy fighters with poor climb rates would become obsolete if all planes got airspawns. Like at that point why would you play a Fw 190 A8/F8 when a Bf 109 G6 or G14 could do it better if they all get airspawns, or how about why play a Hornet when instead you could use a Spitfire LF mk 9 or Griffon spitfire if they all get airspawns as well. In all honestly, I hope gaijin would add Air RB EC mode as this would be fix a lot of problems that currently plague Air RB. Yes tank rb is more fun due to the action happening much sooner, though the slower pace of Air RB is what makes Air RB fun sometimes as those who have patience and know what's the best playstyle/maneuvers are the ones who will usually win. Also that the dogfights that can happen, especially 1v1s are also what make Air RB really fun and really tense.
The problem with cas is that few people will spawn in aa early on to counter it. The first plane to spawn has a couple free kills until someone gets pissed off and respawns in aa. They need to increase the rewards for players sitting in and getting kills with aa. They could also add more AI aa around the map to force planes to better plan an attack run to not be shot down. As for air RB the time spent climbing and flying to battle is meant to allow for more individual strategic planning tailored to that players aircraft. Most aircraft are not close in dogfighters that are meant to take on enemies at the same altitude and outturn them.
as a player with 10000+ hours on this game (i started playing 2016), i must say, yes the grind is real and slow, but even thru frustration and bad moments with the game, i must say, i am happy with it and it is propably my favorite game right now
Don’t forget that the maps and the game itself incentivize toxic and annoying strategies that piss people off, the three main trees either have op or annoying players (most, but not all of the time) and the game is coded against you to make you want to pay, premium gets you better lobbies, someone tested it.
idk man. when i have premium i feel like im gotta slapped left and right and earn very little because of it. but then when i dont have premium im terrorizing the enemy only to see i earn jack because i dont have premium lol.
My dad gave me a premium account for my birthday because we play war thunder together and I love when I get that boost in silver lions but it also feels like a permanent 500% booster on my back. that or I have a massive skill issue.
Honestly as a AA PLAYER, you really really underplay AA, they can kill most tanks... Think of the R3, Whrilblewind, so on so forth. You just need to know when to attack and where to hit.
not to mention, even if you might not shoot down a plane you will still make its life hell. getting a good bomb drop is exponentially more difficult when you're not able to fly straight
Only play the game if you are fine with rank 1 and rank 2. Those are pretty fun. Only grind vehicles up until battle rating 6.0. That is the max fun you can have. Do not expect much ch progression in the first week to month. You might get about 3 new tanks in that time like me. I only started playing so I could play the T-26 Pershing and 4 years later, I’m 7,000 reasearch points away. It will take another 2 more days. Remember, grinding does not make progression. Having fun moments in a BT-7 does.
Edit: Listening to your 'rant' about planes in RB was cathartic. The roadmap is cool and all, but the top two things a lot of people wanted was overall decrease in grind for lineups (Folder vehicle changes are nice, but don't create entire lineups), and a decompression across the board, helping the game become infinitely more enjoyable. Top tier can be dead some nights because not enough people can get to and afford to be at top tier. With as many nations as there are, there should be a drastic change in required RP, as more nations and more vehicles come out, the amount of total available grind becomes exponential. At 3k hours (Probably 500 in menus TBH) I have never been past 10.0, because I can not and will not grind a single line up. It becomes dull fast. My max BR (grinded, not squad vehicles) in AIR is about 5.7 or so with the AM-1 and folders vehicles. I rely on eventually getting an air vehicle from squad points and just playing whatever lineup it works for in GRB.
Honestly you put outh a really great point about the CAS issue but personally from what ive experienced I think it makes it feel more real. In war like this whoever controls the air gets an advantage in battle and typically whenever I spend the rest of my SP after fighting tanks camping on a hill one shot sniping my tank out of nowhere for a bomber.. It most of the time just gets instantly clapped by some enemy fighter plane. I see where you're coming from and everybody will have different opinions, I just think it's part of the game and perhaps you're right, it could be balanced more and I somewhat agree. I mean if there are no enemy fighters over the field watching for me I literally just turn my brain off and drop a bomb on an objective and get a kill on a tank i didnt even notice.
14:05 don't even need to drive to the point. 2 of my buddies and I spawned in at the start and less then 5 seconds in someone used the new Russian rocket truck to cross map us. 1 kill just inside the start of the match got him a pe8 which got him another 7 kills
I got into WT in 2015 when the ground forces were fresh & the game was limited to WW2 era vehicles. I atopped playing within a few months because of 2 primary reasons: 1. The patches were too frequent and I hated the fact that all game files were checked EVERY SINGLE TIME I launched the game. 2. Spawn camping in sim battles... no comments here Later I got to know about the infinite grind, paid bushes that gave advantage in game - a clear P2W feature I'm happy I stayed out
90% of people who prefer air AB to air RB is because they suck at basic flying and lack skills like flying with the keyboard, which is clearly your case lol. Very common disability among tank players
Just a tip for new players who want to play war thunder and dont know where to start nationwise, if you dont have a specific vehicle that you want, it is a good idea to avoid minor nations at first, because when playing major nations with big tech trees, matchmaker becomes predictable, so you can learn where to shoot only a couple of vehicles that you almost always face in regard of tank battles. For example when i started my grind i chose the USSR and most of the enemies i faced were either sherman variations and panzer 3 and 4s, and now when every nation has variations of those tanks, knowing how to kill the most used vehicles will land you plenty of kills. After you've reached rank 5 or 6 in your main tree you can start grinding a minor nation. Coming from the mouth of a player with 5k+ hours in war thunder, minor nations are easier to grind, thus having less vehicles, but very often from my experience, most of them (actually all except sweden and japan) get screwed over by the matchmaker and suffer in constant uptiers (and uptier is a game you've been put in, that does not match the battle rating of your selected vehicle and is higher instead, so you end up fighting enemy vehicles up to 1 whole battle rating higher that your vehicle. Note that the battle rating of matches you are put in is determined by the vehicle with the highest battle rating in your lineup, so you cannot have a lets say a 2.7 vehicle and a 6.7 vehicle in the same lineup, you cannot expect to face 2.7 rated vehicles, instead you are going to face vehicles in the range of 5.7 and 7.7, based on weather you get and uptier or an equal match. The initial spawn cost for spawning a vehicle in ground RB shows weather you are in an uptier or not, and what is the battle rating of the match as a whole, a youtuber named McKong explains this system in details, you should search him up) Also by playing a lot, you can find your playstyle and then pick the nations you want to grind with that in mind. Again ill give myself as an example. I started with the USSR and when i got to rank 4, where i unlocked the IS-2 tanks, my playstyle was formed around the powerful cannon and great mobility (also i loved urban maps, because they work really well with long reloads, since you have a lot of buildings to buy you time when somebody is chasing you and you are damaged/reloading) and i had no problems playing around the ok mobility and armor and long reloads. When i started grinding sweden or the US i quickly found out that those nations just were not fot me, because shermans dont really have great firepower or armor, and the light tanks in those tech trees didnt seem to have the firepower i needed to cope with enemies i met on a flank, so i quickly switched over to other trees where i had a better time with vehicles that matched my playstyle.
I never buy premium, I don't worry about the grind. I just have fun. So what if the grind will never end.. think of it as an opportunity to challenge your completionism.
19:10 It just always gets me how world of warship's grind is way faster than this. Although considered slow by us fellow players, compared to WOW, war thunder's grind time is just huge. By the way I'd like to give a little tip from what I could experience regarding grinding and silver lions farming Low tier AIR simulator battle rewards (from tier 1.3, to 4+) allows you to farm a decent amount of money and experience, with simple tasks like bombing or just being airborn (they call it useful action reward i think, correct me if I'm wrong). Choose simple targets like a pack of AI tanks, bomb, get back to base. The simple act of landing also gives you Silver lions and experience. Don't forget to shoot down AI bombers or real players, it's good money rewarded here. Also, if you bring higher tiers in Sim battle, use also lower tiers since these have lower spawn prices (or spawn taxes as I love to call it). That's for the earning part. I do understand that some of us War thunder players ain't here for Simulator though, but it has been quite effective to gain money sometimes. But yeah, the grind is super long It's not much but getting 18k to 30k silver lions after such battles is pretty cool in my opinion
air RB player here and um well the reason not everyone has an air spawn is because of the superiorities of each aircraft, most fighters climb better than strike aircraft and outrun them, strike aircraft and bomber roles would be stripped away if all aircraft (like the P-51H with the best climb rate) had an airspawn. outclimbing your opponent at the start with propeller aircraft is where you can claim yourself a large altitude advantage.
For anyone wonderning how bad the grind really is: M60A3 TTS is 9.0 battle rating american tank. As of writing this, i have played 113 ground realistic battles with it. It has 21 modifications to unlock, before it is fully functional. I have unlocked 10 modifications WITH PREMIUM ACCOUNT 😅
Im one of those 'Special' people that love Sim :P The thing about planes is simple. They need to buff SPAA more to deal with planes more easily. It's my favourite role. :)
Why I like air realistic is because when I kill 3 enemy jets early thanks to a surprise attack from a valley it significantly improves our chances of winning. Every kill has a lot of importance since there are no respawns
"Spawn CAS with anti tank weapon should increase" -You cannot Spawn helicopter with anti tank missile in start of the game since it's more expensive than default Spawn cost -Most CAS aircraft have more cost if you bring more heavy payload if you using SPAA Don't Camping on the base too long(if your team still not dominated by enemy) enemy CAS can just avoid you at all since they also want to prevent your team to capture point or they just run straight to your base since they know you still in the base
I am still baffled at 1. Like you said, the ABYSMAL map design and lack of ability to allow the community to self filter these awful maps 2. This game INCENTIVIZING and ALLOWING spawn camping. This is the most baffling thing ever. It just straight up allows bad teams to be demoralized and stomped. Harming their mood and ruining the overall community. Not to mention, this causes many idiots to rush an enemy spawn instead of, playing the objective Give the spawns definitive, defensible spawn zone, and give people in the them invulnerability
A major issue with sim is that every nation has at least 1 vehicle borrowed from another nation, since every nation has a sherman, and a fair few have panzers and t34s you have to look very carefully just to make sure that that enemy you see is in fact an enemy.
This entire video is so accurate. I wish Gaijin could watch this video. Specially the economy part. When i play BR9+ games my balance never changes even if i get so many kills because of repair costs which i find extremely stupid. And another thing is trophies, like there is no way an average player with so many hours can get anything from the trophies other than stupid missions and wagers. I have hundreds of wagers which I don't use because it just doesn't work and help anything.
Sadly one of the biggest problems that never get spoken of is the br system itself. I am having a extremely hard time even getting a single kill do you know how many players at br 1.0 were under lvl 25? 4, 4 Players including me out of 32. And its not that im just bad when there were players "only" 10-5 Levels above me I was top3 consitently. It is just impossible for new players to have fun when there are 4 lvl 100 players in the enemy team.
16:30 I used to play heroes and generals and for how much I loved that game, the economy was horrible. A kill would be worth around 100 silver, but an anti personnel mine was 800. Grenades were like 250 so if you weren't getting 2 kills and wounding 1 guy, you were wasting resources. Even bullets cost silver. Normal weapons were dirt cheap to use, but modifications would push the costs sky high. 700 silver a mag for my PPSH. Absolutely wild
LMAO I was so confused where you were. Heard your engine noise for a while and took me a moment to realize you were down there. Didn't realize you couldn't come back up so I got stuck too after I killed you lol.
CAS is a difficult problem to solve at higher tiers with missiles and tracking systems. It's so much easier for CAS to kill ground and SPAA to kill CAS. Not really sure how to balance it cause the more ordinance you take on aircraft actually makes it more expensive to use them. The SU-25K can get really expensive to spawn depending on what weapons you have attached. The low tier is absolutely a blast though and I have found a good high tier with 10.0 US being quite fun for me.
CAS in a top tier is extremely broken. They can use guided fire and forget systems that make it so they just lock on, fire, and ignore it. They can take off, fire, and lane to get more guided missles. Rinse and repeat. To fix CAs, I would have CAS spawn at an airfield and cost the equivalent of 1 cap point and 3 kills. Make guided missiles increase the cost by 100 SP per missile (if you bring 4 missiles, your cost is 400 SP more than original.)
I love how Arcade solves most of the problems you have with ground combat, they really just need a semi realistic mode, because combine arcade and realistic you got something magical, but atm both have big cons and big up sides, so choose your poison.
So as someone who almost exclusively plays air RB, I have to give my personal opinion on the mode. I actually think it's quite cool. Yes, you do nothing for quite some time at the start of the match. But there's also a tactical aspect to it. Both climbing at the start, staying low or something inbetween can make quite a big difference. Having more altitude has its advantages , but being able to get into battle quicker and having more speed does too. Everything is a tactical decision in ARB. And it actually requires quite a lot of skill to win a dogfight against two stronger opponents. There was nothing more satisfying than that one game where I didn't have any ammo left in my damaged Me262 and still made three of my enemies crash and return back to base. Unfortunately, it is not very welcoming to new players. Dying several games in a row without getting any kills and thus rewards can be very frustrating. But if you do get kills it's also very rewarding. I'm talking like 6000rp without premium and a tech tree vehicle. Yes, it requires a lot of skill but it's way more satisfying to win dogfights than just shooting tanks. PS: this comment was written while sideclimbing in a Ta152 PPS: Fck I'm like 10km out
My advice for war thunder is just play to have fun. Don't even worry about the grind and just enjoy the vehicles you have. Overtime you'll notice the game play change and alter as you progress further through the tree, but you'll see this as a positive as you get a sense of progression without really searching for one. It makes the game play much more fulfilling and the only real pain in the ass is getting GAIJINNED BY GODDAMN CAS WHEN I HAVE A PERFECT SHOT LINEUP ON THE MOVING BUSH THAT ONE SHOT MY FRIEND FROM HALFWAY ACROSS THE MAP
12:07 on top tiers (and even highest of mid ones) if you are in air - you are dead. When every anti aircraft vehicle has auto targeting which near impossible to avoid, for AAV's commonly 1 shot = 1 kill. When you meet Derivation on the battlefield and you are in the sky, next moment there is derivation of obscene words following from your side😂 (and 2C38 Derivation isn't even one of AAVs)
14:14 nah i love it when half the enemy team is cas, cause the ostwind II wirh the better he shells is the perfect counter, u can still hit like twin engine planes from over 2km away, playing aa is fun
They actually did fix the economy a few weeks ago due to the backlash, and it feels so much better. For reference, I struggled to grind the F-4J for several months, even with premium account and premium aircraft, and after the fixes, I ground out the F-16A ADF in a matter of weeks.
As a nearly tanks only player when in ground simulator battles, usually only flying CAS in air sim or lower BR (I won't lie, Stuka's fun, but you have to find those targets...). CAS doesn't appear to be as big a problem in Sim. Only when ground units start actively marking enemy positions for their CAS does CAS start getting maybe too efficient, but is that arguably team work? The other balancing factor is sim controls limit CAS to players above the controls skill floor. While SPAA and other vehicles aren't much less efficient at air defence than they are in RB. In conclusion, I believe CAS in ground and naval battles is a more balanced in SB than in RB.
I don’t think CAS has to be fixed. I can’t speak for the very highest tears but I never had the feeling it is overwhelming overpowered but getting into a plane felt always rewarding enough. It is definitely a good middle. Maybe helicopters are a bit too much, but as I said, I can’t speak about that because grinding tanks takes soooo long…
Ngl the road map looks pretty good the permiem account is going to be the normal sl is going up the grind is not going to be that hard anymore but tbh I could just be fan boying because I have fun in the game
I am pretty impressed with the roadmap too tbh.. lets hope they stick with it!
also it is true that the premium vehicles have modifiers for sl and rp but theyre also worse than their normal variants
I honestly feel that naval is overhated just because everyone is used to the fast paced action of tanks and planes and when they go to naval and it’s slow, they automatically think it’s trash and boring.
The Maps are also to small for the bigger ships and to big for the smaller ones at the same time.
Ipad kid attention spans lol
-----Edit------:
After the roadmap updates, the grind is easier. Its thankfully not as problematic anymore :)
Playing for fun is now possible again🎉
From what has been announced in the roadmap it's promising to see the changes that they are going to make to the economy and progression, but as a friend said, "Trust is something that gets broken in an instant and takes eons to rebuild."
I'm cautiously optimistic about the future of War Thunder. Gaijin has been put in a tough spot by the community, and I'm sure Gaijin will want to revert these changes the community has forced them to make a year or so down the line if they believe they can get away with it.
@icezinho_ Krill issue💅
What squadron? THC doesn't count.
SPAA is my favorite part of the game. It's a great way to single-handedly turn the outcome of a match. Just sucks that the rewards for taking down aircrafts is so low.
it should be significantly higher as it is one of the most beneficial things to do for the team while also requiring lots of skill to do
I loooooove playing SPAA.
I did not expect to find such a good video from a channel that doesn't upload regular war thunder content. "Bravo!"
Thanks! I might make a few more videos on it too! Definitely a lot to cover with War Thunder, and 20 minutes can't do it justice.
The best way to nerf CAS without completely destroying it is have AI AAs in the map where AA zones can be captured. Which brings more variety in Ground Gameplay and make CAS more skillful
I proprosed something almost identical in War Thunder Reddit.....it sit about 50/50 in karma
I like the general idea of this, but they need to very carefully balance the aim of the AI if they do this. If you play the Helicopter PvE game mode you know how cancerous the AI spaa are.
There is no need for that, they should only increase sp points for bomb/rocket loads
You would be able to spawn a cheap plane without bombs for air superiority but for cas it should be more expensive.
The secret is to like the game, not the grind, a person who likes the journey will walk further than someone who likes the destination
damn you should be a philosopher...
literally my philosophy as a f2p player, unfortunately some of that isn't possible because of the repair costs but its better than what it could be ig
Germany - around 8.0 - 9.0
So basically in around 700 hours I managed to research almost 3 biggest trees in the entire game and I can play flexible lineup at any BR. I am guessing that researching all War Thunder trees (without naval) will take me up to 2500 hours which is a lot but its not as bad, considering the amount of vehicles and content. The main thing is that I very much enjoy playing high tier BR and I dont even think about the grind.
The journey that’s makes me have to dodge guided missles from a helicopter 5 kilometres away while in my ww2 tank. It’s hard to enjoy much.

The best way to fix the game is to remove gaijin from the game
Just remove the game and the cancer will be cured.
Yeah, if Gaijin just raised SP costs for CAS, roughly 75%. That would make CAS more a reward instead of a tool to get easy kills.

For me,the plane that i love is the premium fw with torpedoes, his cannons just shred people and i can destroy at least two planes without landing at the airport (i have shit aim)
Edit: now i am using the prem yak-1 in the german TT
The one that "activates my almonds" is the ki-44 Shoki. 4 12.5mm machine guns, a dedicated air target belt, great speed, great turning, solid climb, and all of it on top of a tiny body. Just beautiful!
The urban maps personally are not bad at all. Its the long range maps where you can see into anothers spawn just by driving a mile or two from yours.
if you're a masochist (like me as well) you would love air RB for the fact that it punishes you for just playing.
@@TheCostantinus Yup. Air RB is the only game mode which punishes you for taking shitty fights, and that why we love it!

I'm super happy to hear that :)

"Let me show you what the Avg battle for Air RB looks like" : gets RAID SHADOW LEGENDS
I personally stay at 8.3 or around that spot in arcade tanks
Over my 7 years of playing warthunder, i've switched over to the side of playing for the sake of fun.
It allows me to take out a good tank like the t55-am1 and play for the sake of playing without having the worry of progression.
progression is almost like a secondary bonus to me at this point
Fucking turms-3 fucking df105 and bmp-1 these 3 fucking annoying indestructible unkillable bastards and shitheads don’t let me enjoy 8.3 on finest magach’s,these trinity are my headache, and pain for the beautiful M111 round
same. though now for me its 9.3 germany
Me at 5.3 USA
yeah what i do i just grind all nations to rank III and IV and just stick with it. i make a great set of tanks.
Best explanation of my issues with war thunder in one video. Especially the issue of maps and CAS. The maps are just absolutely abysmal sometimes
We will see what Roadmap update brings upon us and if it is gonna, for once, make community satisfied.
god danm, u sum up the game well and in an easy-to-understand way. nice, fun vid
Thanks! Glad you liked it :D
The problem with CAS can be midly fixed by just making you NOT PAY SL for the CAS death
10:04 an ad started just as the bomb exploded so i saw just 1 frame of the explosion
For doubters, when he took off and set his course, then made a meal and read a book, that is legit. I have actually whatched 3 or so episodes of some random show and I still don’t get to dogfight. It is kinda sad. That’s why in realistic air, I play jets.
I have a ungodly level of respect for those people who are dedicated anti air players
Should I get the game or should this be my last chance to turn back? I kinda want to be a dedicated AA player who also plays cool tanks like the T-34 and be the likable player
@@therealspeedwagon1451get the game its free and the lowest tiers are the most fun so why not try it
Depends really if your going down the path of russian tanks then be warned for a few things: 1.
A Canadian who doesn't broke in half spaghetit? Aweso... wait why isn't it ready and why the hell are you putting chicken in it?
1. It was ready
2. I was making a lazy meal
@vali7757 you are right
Not to make this a competition, but Ive witnessed someone beat you by over minute.
The monetization, even for a F2P game, is downright predatory...
skill issue
thank you for talking about the CAS problem. it doesn't get shat on enough
Naval is the most fun in coastal and low tier, where you don't have to wait 30s to reload, change your rudder or start accelerating
0:02 same... same
The problem with cas is that few people will spawn in aa early on to counter it. Most aircraft are not close in dogfighters that are meant to take on enemies at the same altitude and outturn them.
as a player with 10000+ hours on this game (i started playing 2016), i must say, yes the grind is real and slow, but even thru frustration and bad moments with the game, i must say, i am happy with it and it is propably my favorite game right now
Whatever problems it may have, enjoyment is the most important thing
heli sniping is the most unfun shit ever, it's so frustrating
Honestly playing arcade after your used to realistic arcade becomes impossible 😂
I atopped playing within a few months because of 2 primary reasons:
1. The patches were too frequent and I hated the fact that all game files were checked EVERY SINGLE TIME I launched the game.
2. Spawn camping in sim battles... no comments here
Later I got to know about the infinite grind, paid bushes that gave advantage in game - a clear P2W feature
I'm happy I stayed out
90% of people who prefer air AB to air RB is because they suck at basic flying and lack skills like flying with the keyboard, which is clearly your case lol. Very common disability among tank players
Yeah you can see it all the time when you end up in dogfights in GRB with tank players. They really fucking suck at flying.
Actual tip; don't play this game.
By the way I'd like to give a little tip from what I could experience regarding grinding and silver lions farming
Low tier AIR simulator battle rewards (from tier 1.3, to 4+) allows you to farm a decent amount of money and experience, with simple tasks like bombing or just being airborn (they call it useful action reward i think, correct me if I'm wrong).
But yeah, the grind is super long
It's not much but getting 18k to 30k silver lions after such battles is pretty cool in my opinion
"Imagine if you need to use in-game currency to respawn" May I introduce you to the Assault gamemode, where you do exactly that.
me too man im a britain main and i have to come to terms with my addiction to pain
air RB player here and um well the reason not everyone has an air spawn is because of the superiorities of each aircraft, most fighters climb better than strike aircraft and outrun them, strike aircraft and bomber roles would be stripped away if all aircraft (like the P-51H with the best climb rate) had an airspawn. outclimbing your opponent at the start with propeller aircraft is where you can claim yourself a large altitude advantage.
Im one of those 'Special' people that love Sim :P
The thing about planes is simple. They need to buff SPAA more to deal with planes more easily. It's my favourite role. :)
Why I like air realistic is because when I kill 3 enemy jets early thanks to a surprise attack from a valley it significantly improves our chances of winning. Every kill has a lot of importance since there are no respawns
I don’t play Air Rb since with props it takes so long
"Spawn CAS with anti tank weapon should increase"
-You cannot Spawn helicopter with anti tank missile in start of the game since it's more expensive than default Spawn cost
-Most CAS aircraft have more cost if you bring more heavy payload
if you using SPAA Don't Camping on the base too long(if your team still not dominated by enemy) enemy CAS can just avoid you at all since they also want to prevent your team to capture point or they just run straight to your base since they know you still in the base
EVERYONE ELSE ON THE GAME: GRINDS IN PAIN
Me: Grinds tier 1, STAYS THERE HAPPY
I am still baffled at
1. Like you said, the ABYSMAL map design and lack of ability to allow the community to self filter these awful maps
2. This game INCENTIVIZING and ALLOWING spawn camping. This is the most baffling thing ever. It just straight up allows bad teams to be demoralized and stomped. Harming their mood and ruining the overall community. Not to mention, this causes many idiots to rush an enemy spawn instead of, playing the objective
Give the spawns definitive, defensible spawn zone, and give people in the them invulnerability
Yoooo! @Tymptra when you slid down the hill in the intro THAT WAS ME😂 GOOD TIME BRO
LMAO I was so confused where you were. Heard your engine noise for a while and took me a moment to realize you were down there. Didn't realize you couldn't come back up so I got stuck too after I killed you lol.
This video was def worth my time. Subscribed.
It took me a month but I finally finished the video. You are completely right about everything and the video was well made nice job
The cost of vehicles at higher tiers is a big turn off, but I have no intention of going above br 5
PS: this comment was written while sideclimbing in a Ta152
PPS: Fck I'm like 10km out
I love the conpalining against realistic fetures on a mode named realistic
“Arcade, realistic and simulator battles based on how much mental damage you’d like to acquire” 😂😂
14:14 nah i love it when half the enemy team is cas, cause the ostwind II wirh the better he shells is the perfect counter, u can still hit like twin engine planes from over 2km away, playing aa is fun
Gaijin: hey this guy has some good ideas.
Also gaijin: hurry silence him.
They actually did fix the economy a few weeks ago due to the backlash, and it feels so much better. For reference, I struggled to grind the F-4J for several months, even with premium account and premium aircraft, and after the fixes, I ground out the F-16A ADF in a matter of weeks.
She had that tint of craziness in her soul that made her believe she could actually make a difference.
I personally love naval because I have my Bayern and scharnhorst now I'm just waiting for tirpitz and geneisanau
