Literally almost everything is yellow except for the bacteria monster which is black and represents aggression while everything else represents going insane

The one you guys were talking about near the end with the government informational video and the dashcam is probably Local 58, and it's my favorite analogue horror series. Would love a podcast about it!
Seeing Chelsea talk about 4chan was hilarious. Did not expect her to be more knowledgeable of the boards than James. I wonder what's her favorite board One aspect I find quite humorous is how a lot of this content is made by people around my age (Gen Z) making it look older than us
Something the Backrooms really remind of is a pitcher plant - it's a passive carnivorous plant that has naturally smooth sides, so when a bug attracted by the sweet smell it emits slips and falls into the water/digestive juices inside it, the bug can't climb out until it drowns or is dissolved. The damp floors and the rooms' nature of trapping people who aren't careful enough really remind me of it. Plus, several types of critters that can't be trapped by pitcher plants will check out pitch plants while foraging and steal a free meal from what gets trapped in them. The monsters could either be part of the pitcher plant or these opportunistic animals that steal from pitcher plants.
That room that you guys said looked like a courtyard with a ceiling is actually not from gmod, it is a real hotel called the London Heathrow Hotel in the UK

As soon as I finished and went back to the parking building where I left my car, I immediately noticed how empty and recurring the pattern was (considering it was beyond visit time, so there were bascially no other cars parked) of that place. I immediately remembered the point where you talked about Liminal Spaces and thought "I shouldn't have watched the Dead Meat video before coming here". Those 3 minutes I spent in that parking building scared the s**t out of me. 😅

Now that I look at it, the house in Pit Falls could be a reference to House of Leaves. Not sure if it's what Kane intended, but a striking coincidence if so.

Holy shit this episode just made all the repressed memories I had about Local 58 resurface. Time to go back and relive all the old videos that scarred me as a preteen.
My entire life I've dreamed of being in random houses/buildings. I never felt trapped, nor were these places "backrooms"... but still there was always a touch of an ominous feeling. So this Background Phenomena hits a little different. I kinda love it.

Would be great to hear your thoughts about the Mandela catalogue, it's really creepy and explores some really interesting themes, I really recommend it imo it's analogue horror at its best
I would love it if Chelsea and James keep doing podcast episodes on Internet horror, like SCP's and analogue horror series, I think Mandela Catalogue, Local 58 and Gemini Home Entertainment (my personal favourite) are ridiculously cool and terrifying, and also I still have a lot of unanswered questions about them
I love the old backrooms but it's been made so SO much better with monsters and that. I like how some levels don't have monsters and it's more of a phycological horror, while some levels DO have monsters and it's more of a horror movie type horror
Disagree, keeping monsters out of it gives it a more of a “fear of the unknown” feel and personally that’s way more interesting to me. It’s a lot scarier not knowing if something is lurking around rather than not knowing where it is.
James, at the stamp 56:38, you’re referring to Local 58. If you like that, and the backrooms, I suggest you look into Gemini, which is equally as creepy, if not more so than the backrooms.
You guys seriously need to make the next episode about The Mandela Catalogue! It's some of the most well written Analog Horror on TH-cam alongside things like The Backrooms and Gemini Home Entertainment!
The monster took the tripod and constructed it's body with it. It then used the camera as it's head to spot people with it. That's the reason why there is written on the wall 'don't move. Stay still.' because the monster uses the camera to spot you.
Just incase anybody was wondering Local 58 is the news series that James and Chelsea were talking about at the end. It started 4 years ago and the most resent upload was 7 months ago and the creator has said they plan on making more
I wonder if they saw the most recent episode! My very unnecessary interpretation of this series is about its focus on ‘commercial spaces’. Nowadays we often ascribe value to places and that’s what Async tried to do by taking over the back rooms and transforming them into a commercial space. But when places that we deem “commercial” are empty they no longer serve their purpose and feel almost wrong- that’s why they seem so creepy. I like Chelsea’s idea that the monster is made up of the tripods and the time distortion theory because it would mean that in trying to create more commercial spaces (space with VALUE), they accidentally created something dreadful that essentially renders the back rooms useless (like climate change). I also thought the weird tree room sort of reminded me of deforestation? The imagery of a frontier home with axes and wheelbarrows denotes colonization etc. Anyway, beyond all that the videos were just creepy in general! Kane really nailed the aesthetic of liminal spaces.
I think if you keep doing this type of horror “Mandela Catalog” is an amazing analog horror that the creator of is Alex Kister made on his phone. The story is about a random “alien” taking the place of a angle and can adjust to how humans move, interact, speaking, etc.
I love you guys so much, y’all make my boring ass office job so much better, especially when y’all get into the niche parts of film for us cinephiles. Keep doing great things guys!
A short and very over-essentializing TLDR of the New Weird James talked about for whoever is interested. It's essentially the 21st century version of the Weird (Lovecraft) which uses the monstrous and weird nature to explore and discuss contemporary issues such as climate change. Things like Annihiliation, and actually most of Jeff Vandermeers work. It differentiates itself from lovecraft/old weird by embracing the monstrous and weird. I'm by no means an expert and it's a very complicated part of narrative studies but I did use it in some research last year
i would absolutely love to see an episode on Marble Hornets - it introduced me to found footage and internet horror and the dudes who made it were instrumental in my sense of humor as a teen. especially if Tim can swing onto the pod!

I’d love to see you guys cover analogue horror like Mandala Catalogue, Gemini Home Video etc. they are some of the creepiest things I’ve watched. So much scarier than any horror film I’ve seen for a long time
Now that I look at it, the house in Pit Falls could be a reference to House of Leaves. Not sure if it's what Kane intended, but a striking coincidence if so.
Would love to see James and Chelsea cover other analogue horror channels like Local 5, Gemini home entertainment or the Mandela catalog. They're all so good and super creepy.
the analogue news horror series is called Local 58!! definetley reccomend it as well as The Mandela Catalogue !
"Cool." I love this channel and it's humor man. This channel makes me smile and makes my day better at 8am
I'm so glad you guys covered this series!
I was so excited to see this episode on my feed! I'm actually pretty curious about these games.
"Saddest little Sailor". I'm so sorry James! Thought I think saddest little Sailor fits Steve as well lol
I cannot express to y’all how happy i am that y’all cover this
Holy shit this episode just made all the repressed memories I had about Local 58 resurface. Time to go back and relive all the old videos that scarred me as a preteen.
I’d love to see you guys tackle the Mandela catalogs and “no through road” these are so fun
My entire life I've dreamed of being in random houses/buildings. I never felt trapped, nor were these places "backrooms"... but still there was always a touch of an ominous feeling. So this Background Phenomena hits a little different. I kinda love it.
You should definitely do a part 2 on the back rooms!😊
So glad to see this. One of my friends and I watch this series in a buddy system because it is spooky enough we feel the need to have a buddy. Absolutely love the series and can't wait to see what Kane does next. Holy freaking talent Batman!
So glad to see you cover this! I really love the Backrooms series and I had so much fun researching it for one of my deep dives. What Kane has done is super impressive
Next time, definitely cover “The Walten Files” or just cover analog horror in general.
I know I'm late but if anyone's still confused I think local 58 is the news station arg they were talking about at the end haha which isn't 10 years old,
and if you want a more in depth explanation wendigoon is a youtube channel that has covered all this stuff he knows his shit, he also interviewed Kane Pixels about the backrooms on his channel
We need a full movie about the Backrooms RIGHT NOW
I love when one of my favorite TH-cam channels mentions another one of my favorite TH-cam channels, absolutely love corridor and deadmeat
45:44 For the next Dead Meat - Out of Context! Chelsea saying “we need to find this child & interview him. Tell us all of your secrets!”
I will always love TH-cam for the sheer amount of amazing horror content it has. The Backrooms is so fucking good. Then there's the Mandela Catalogue and all the analogue horror videos and endless amount of creative videos people put up for free.
@@mtchxo love your opinion and thought process about it
this is the first podcast i’ve tuned into since the new set and it’s amazing, well done chelsea
Absolutely loved this! Have you guys talked about Mandela Catalogue? Would love to see that on a future podcast episode :D
I was actually so excited when I got the notification, I'm obsessed with the back rooms. 💯
56:18 Love Local 58's work - Contingency absolutely floored me for a good while after seeing it the first time.
i Love the backrooms lore and Kane's take on it. Really excited y'all are tackling it on the podcast. Love you guys :)
LOVE that Kane is getting some notice from y'all that dude is gonna blow up, his production value is insane considering how old he is
love this series on new digital horror!! and ofc lucy cameos are always welcome
Omg I would love to see u interview the creator of this. I enjoy your channel n the content you put out. Loving the kill counts.
this is my first dead meat podcast ive listen too and i feel like ive been missing a lot
I think if you keep doing this type of horror “Mandela Catalog” is an amazing analog horror that the creator of is Alex Kister made on his phone.
The story is about a random “alien” taking the place of a angle and can adjust to how humans move, interact, speaking, etc.
Chelsea said in another podcast it looks too spooky for her, which i understand, because MC's entire premise is existentially terrifying to me.
I'm by no means an expert and it's a very complicated part of narrative studies but I did use it in some research last year
something I forgot to add, Annihilation was actually inspired by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill so there the environmentalist angle is very explicit
i would absolutely love to see an episode on Marble Hornets - it introduced me to found footage and internet horror and the dudes who made it were instrumental in my sense of humor as a teen. especially if Tim can swing onto the pod!
The backrooms are such a neat idea but way over saturated now
You copyed someone else
@@mdls6320 literally just copied me
over saturated in what way? Other people doing their renditions of the back rooms? I feel like that shouldn't count, Kane Pixels was the OG of bring the backrooms to light, everyone else is just riding the high, lets just talk about Kane Pixels, in which its not saturated but full of lore and mystery
I don't care how old the topic is, it's still exciting to listen to you guys talk
Could you do a 'Attack the Block' kill count I would love to see it on this channel.
About the Mandela catalogue, there has never been a horror movie that made me scared at night when I was alone or anything. But after only three of those videos I had trouble being alone in the dark for about a week
This Chanel really Made a backrooms video Lmao I love it 😂
I mean it is a horror game lol?
I absolutely love analog horror and this collection is really really good
