In 1996 I was doing security at Hollywood Palladium outside of the parking lot and Foo Fighters we're playing that night and a cab pulls up and Pat Smear comes out. What a moment I will never forget

Haha .. I was scrolling hoping to find this tidbit
awesome !!! Thanks
I thought people were calling him Pap smear. Like it was his nickname 🤣
That's a 70's 80's punk thing to have a pun as a stage name
Pat Smear
Lee Ving
Rockets Redglare
Etc
Pat is a legend
HUGE INSPIRATION AND INFLUENCE IN OUT BAND
What's the song they're playing at 3:00?

Grohl didn’t pick Pat over Krist… they play different instruments…
I know. That was odd.
The video doesn't mention it, but I think Dave said somewhere he wanted them both until he realized it would just be seen as Nirvana 2.
4:07 Krist almost head to head with Barkley! 😮😮
They did a few takes with Barkly - the best was when he deliberately mispronounced their name, saying "Neervana" and then "Hi Mom!"
4:23 Yeah I heard Pat got the call for RHCP after Frusciante quit in 92 & supposedly had said "yeah, I'll join, as long as you stop playing funk"... 🤣
lol ,never heard that one . glad john got it together though
@@danielhall-wl4ql I know right? The music he made in the years immediately after getting sober is nearly all masterpiece level. Used to help me believe anything was possible... Now that I'm going through a similar process (cleaning up) I wake up everyday full of doubt & fear about my future
Saw foo fighters twice.. once in 90s with a new band rage against the machine and once in 2019 in Nashville with Pat.
Smeer.... And a multi piece band . Keys etc... Guest audience member etc. Was he in that first incarnation? I saw them September 19, 1997
at Irvine Meadows opening for Rage.
Pat will always be the guitarist for The Germs to me. First and foremost. My favorite punk band ever
Should have mentioned that Darby Crash also died by suicide
If Smear didn't exist - Kurt would've asked King Buzzo - who'd have said no.
i wanna hear the 'COLOR and THE SHAPE ' with Will on drums and see how different it is
Probably terrible
Rolled my eyes at that narrator blunder too
There are demos of those songs with him on TH-cam. Definitely way different
Who could have replaced Pat in the beginning? Someone else as famous as Pat that is so humble there are no “Pat Smear Soloing” videos on TH-cam except for when he played the original MTV riff as a joke. I can’t think of any off hand.
I never hear anyone else bring up his name. There's gotta be someone who finds it funny, also.
Imagine if pat could actually play....he might be a real star then.
