That star washer is suppose to be on the screw going through heat sink and hobbed bolt gear. Its so it doesn’t work loose since you shouldn’t tighten that one as much to prevent bearing damage
Fair enough, as that's what E3D recommends, probably a good idea to add one there in addition. We chose to use the star washer to ensure good contact with the sense lead instead. We've found the threaded inserts in the Aero body to be a bit fragile, so the star washer helps limit torque while ensuring good contact with limited torque there.
