    Having no prior experience with glass, resins, qcell, etc. I have successfully replaced multiple fin plugs, fixed dings, tears, etc on all three of my family's boards just by watching your videos. Love your style, keep making these videos!

    The hot coat cloudiness could be a ambient moisture issue. I had that problem before when working on my board during rainy season.

      I was wondering before it showed the issue if any changes would need to be made when it started raining out due to humidity

      Yes, it's the environment, temperature, moisture issue. Both Epoxy or PU will react different to what's happening in the environment. keep up the good work

    My wife plays with epoxy, and she gets that cloudy effect when she pours during a rainy day or when it's really humid. She combats it by setting a fan up right next to her pour that blows away from her project. Works 50% of the time.

    Make sure you are mixing good, do not over catalyst the hot coat and do not play to much with brush when hot coating , also make sure brush is dry, not rest of acetone

    Hello brother! Greetings from Costa Rica (but Im argentinian 😂) here is a sugestión: in argentina is very comun go to the paint shop with a sample of the paínt (in this case a piece of the broke coat) and in this way they recreate the same colorway, i hope that can help you!

    That is not "clouding due to humidity" its the wax in your sanding resin rising but then sliding off of some spots leaving you with laminating resin which is a pain to sand because it remains tacky.
    Take care not to over-catalyze and dont keep brushing it out. Just the bare minimum brushing then step back and let it lay down and flow out.

    I have a question...What is the difference between paint and then fibergalss OR first fiberglass and then paint...I see people doing this and that and a bit confused what to do when... trying to fix a few family boards

    • @Rogue_wave
      @Rogue_wave  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Fiberglass over the paint = permanent and is definitely the best way to go if you have the option. The only boards you can’t do this on are surftech’s.

    The humidity in the air from the rain may cause your hot coats to do that?

  • @dmac5678
    @dmac5678 ปีที่แล้ว

    So you sanded before applying the spray paint from the gun, once the paint is applied did you glass directly over top of it or did you need to scuff up the painted areas for adhesion?

    • @Rogue_wave
      @Rogue_wave  ปีที่แล้ว

      No just needs to be totally dry! Make sure it’s water based paint as well.

    How low do you usually sand the q cell mix down to before glassing on the fiberglass? I assume the q cell mix is 1 or 2mm below the surface to compensate for the fiberglass thickness?

    • @Rogue_wave
      @Rogue_wave  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just sand it flush and feather your patch of fiberglass well

      @@Goomer My take: no board that gets regular use will last forever anyway. Still plenty of life left in her as long as the guy doesn't take her out in big waves.

    • @Goomer
      @Goomer ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Rogue_wave ut if you let those delams go they will just get bigger, everytime you step on it you will expand it, fix it now and you won't. My favorite board is a 64 Hobie.

    Jack jack chang...poor guy. Just a question. On the top of the board its kind of yellowish. I assume UV damage. Anyway it can be made prestine white again? Spray paint?

    • @Rogue_wave
      @Rogue_wave  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve thought about this a lot. If you invented something that removed the yellowing you could sell the hell out of it!

  • @JerzCraig

    i keep having this problem after i sand the laminating coat before the fill coat that the color of my sandpaper gets into the repair, is that because i use bad sandpaper? or am i not letting the laminating coat set for long enough?

    • @Rogue_wave
      @Rogue_wave  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that’s always frustrating. Hand sanding laminating resin is always a disaster- only good way I’ve found does it, is with very course sandpaper (grinding disk) spinning very fast (pneumatic tool). I used to put the grinding disk attachment in my drill which also worked.
