Long time restaurant employee here, everything from busboy to manager. I do own another type of business but I am considering a food oriented business in the future. Those are great advice for mistakes to avoid. Let me add one for you, the owner: taking your customer for granted. Not being acknowledged and welcomed by the owner when you enter the premises is possibly the worst feeling one can have as a restaurant guest. Being ignored by the owner equals = I'm not welcomed here. That warm personal touch, coupled with a smile, remembering their names, remembering what they had the last time, offering a small freebie (like a small portion of a new dessert), will do wonders for your business. Remember that eating food at a restaurant is supposed to be a comforting and positive experience, and goes beyond the concept of a "transaction".

Delegating doesn't equal ignoring. Thanks for that slogan cuz it is so true!

This is really useful for any small business. There are too much advice available on how to start the next Google, and too few people talk about how to do the kind of small business that most people will really be involved in.

I have downloaded your 90 day planner and am starting working on it. I do not own a restaurant currently and am only in the research and development phase; however, I figure your method works for running a restaurant. And if I approach this with the mindset that I am ALREADY running my future restaurant, I might as well start off right. SO today is day 1 of my first 90 day sprint. Thank you for your tools and wisdom.

    1. They create a job instead of building a business
    2. They work on everything except their passion
    3. They think they're delegating
    4. They focus too much on getting new customers, instead of delighting them
    5. They try to manage people instead of people
    6. They never build a real team

Hi, thank you for your great online "training". I'm from Indonesia and just opened a Japanese Restaurant. We're having 3 big problems. 1) I have no idea how to run a restaurant and we depend on our chef who's formerly from another Japanese Restaurant. 2) Our location was not so good, it is hard for people to find us. 3) What we need the most is how to pull our customers to come and try our food, get to know us. If you have any suggestions, pls do share. Thank you

Hi I am in the process to open my first restaurant. I have 10+ years of experience in the industry due to my family's restaurant that has been closed for 5 years now! I believe their restaurant didn't work due to lack of a solid management system and now I would like to open the doors again at a different location in the same town. My fear is, if the town is big enough for this market the population here is around 7,500! We will be the only Mexican restaurant in town and people now travel 30 to 45 minutes away to eat Mexican food. What would be your advice on this situation?

Hey Ryan. I happened to come across your video at just the right time. I am planning on purchasing an existing restaurant. I got my Bachelor's in Operations Management years ago but there's a difference in getting your degree and using it. I never practiced what I learned. This has always been a dream of mine but I don't know where to begin. Can you and anyone reading this push me in the right direction? I really appreciate it.

We are having trouble figuring out what is the best way to protect our personal assets for example, should be set up a LLC, S-Corp, C- Corp, Corporation, S-Proprietorship......We want it separate from our personal assets. Can you give me any advice here? Thank you!

Delegate, hire an accountant and an inventory manager. This can be part time or full time. If you have a system that manages inventory and the money, you can simply compare and ask questions as needed.

@@Therestaurantboss you use the word expect instead of the word except. Also FYI I just noticed in many of your videos you spell your URL wrong, on the video it shows therestuarantboss.com rather than the restaurantboss.com.
