TOP set up there. I am trying to apply to use it with my airbrush, to paint plastic model kits. Might not work due to plastic not being conductive...but I am hoping that although not conductive can still hold charge on the surface. Being an airbrush will be a very small set up and I was wondering how is the electrical diagram of connections. If I am not wrong the HV + needs to be on the nozzle and HV- in contact with the paint and the object to be painted? thanks! Additionally, on this video...looks like both HV cables are just in front of the nozzle, just charging the air in front of the nozzle jet. Looks a bit odd....what do you think? Cheers.
Thanks for the video and updates. Does the holding wires need to be made of metal? I am thinking making some out of plastic to keep the wire centered inside the tube chamber
@@tinkersmith4615 Big thanks. The gun I made almost looks like your 2nd gen gun. Whereas I used a pvc elbow. I'm just waiting for the powder I ordered to try it out
If you want to try it out just for fun. I used plain flour first to see if the concept worked. Amazingly, flour will stick to metal. Just use air to blow it off when your done.

Might be. You should be able to get a spark way longer than that. You can see the gap I had in the original video and the length and intensity of the spark.
Hi I made a gun similar to your gen 2 , I have done about 9 pieces and the generator unit has given up on me i did however earth it out a few times I got to close, do they have life span , I was thinking of putting in a foot pedal so it is not live all the time , I was using a 240v to 5v 1000ma usb as a power supply I got impatient waiting for the buck converter is it possible that this may have shortened the life of the generator. I have got the bug now for powder coating all my cnc plasma cut projects .
I had the same problem when I first started out as I was just using the high voltage module connected directly to a power supply. That is why I introduced the buck converter to stop it supplying to many amps and frying it. The buck converter is an essential item I'm afraid.
Thank you for your help in upstanding way it failed , will have to wait for a new one to arrive now will most likely b a week as the post is so slow lately

I wouldn't think so. That is just the method I chose. I don't have a 3D printer and I wanted to keep it thin.

I got new voltage generator today but I think it might b a dud it will only throw a spark 2mm long and will not ionize the powder

I used my gen 2 gun in anger today and it was far superior to my original gun.

what size are you using
Size of what? The tube is 19mm PVC.
