    Definitely a very useful lesson.

    I think this kick off can really teach me how to incorporate licks into the 12 bars blues and with a bit of creativity and courage to modify them to make them more natural as the chords go by. Great class!
    I can not wait to get back from work and put into practice. ^.^

    7:20 Excellent advice! That's how I'm gonna proceed: to force myself to think, while I'm training my fingers & ears, so that when I'm actually playing & expressing myself, I'll already have the "tools" i need programmed into my brain.
    I like what you said (prev vid) that we "need to have a 'subroutine' running that keeps track of where we are in the 12-bar Blues."
    Great stuff. I'm practicing as we go (in my head, while I'm watching, then I'll stop & play for a few minutes 'till I've got it. Then, next video!).
    9:44. I won't need that long to move on to next video, but I WILL practice all of it for a couple weeks to get it second nature, until I move to more advanced licks. Thanks!

    Your right. simple lick, but the concept of tying the minor phrases together using the major lick provides such a dynamically interesting flavor and contrast. I’ve been stuck on a plateau for about 3-4 months, and this just opened up the fretboard around what I’ve been doing.... adds a 3rd dimension to it.
    Timing is perfect to, I’m just trying to work up something new and different tonight, for this Sundays music, for church I play for....
    And, I gotta say, I can drool over your tone.... ima hafta go check out the video with your rig rundown...

    This was an awesome lesson and the first time my scale playing and changes actually sounded like music. I’m finding I’m wanting to extend the licks but there are too many pieces of the jigsaw missing for me with regard to patterns etc. I think it would be helpful to say which position major pentatonic to use and maybe just another starting lick to mix it up slightly. I’m playing around with yours but find I have to start virtually the same way each time because of the slide into the note and it does get a little tedious. There’s great stuff here but I’m not sure I’m getting the main benefit.. there’s fireworks going off with linking positions etc but finding as I take it further I come unstuck at times. Knowing some safe notes that work with all the changes would be useful to stop from overplaying. Sometimes I find them naturally but others may not. I just want to know how to utilise this to the maximum some times I find I’m doing a lot of the right thing but I don’t know why and I want to do the same with the minor shapes I’m hoping that comes in the next vid any tips in future lessons much appreciated great lesson!!! Really helpful and I never realised you couldn’t play major pentatonics over minor chords that’s made so much clear now !

    Hi Justin, I see that that you're moving the major pentatonic around to follow the chord changes, would it also be possible to play that same pentatonic major but instead playing it in the same key as the whole song and not changing the key of the scale at every chord change?

  • @fraenkiboii
    @fraenkiboii 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Awesome! Thank you very much Justin! The bit that confused me a little: When you introduced that little bend at 08:05, you bent the second to the minor third right? Doesn't that turn it into a minor lick? It didn't sound wrong to me, but it's confusing me. Or is that simply one instance which you described as "the minor blues stuff always works"?

    • @RussellSyx
      @RussellSyx 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I could be wrong but it looked like he bent the note B a whole tone up to C#. If he would have only bent a semi tone up, that would have been the minor third. At least that's it to the best of my understanding.

    • @RussellSyx
      @RussellSyx 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Upon further review, you are right. He for sure is only bending up to the note C. Gonna file this one under "if it sounds good it is good"

    • @karlfarren

      Graham Fogg
      Hi Graham. It comes from the shape most people would see as ‘Pattern 1’ of the MINOR pentatonic, but with your pinky on the root, i.e. on the sixth string, tenth fret (D). Justin’s just playing the root on the fifth string, fifth fret, before sliding up to new position. Hope that helps. Regards.

    • @karlfarren
      @karlfarren 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just had a thought: in fact, the lick over all three chords comes from that same pattern. Try it on each chord, referencing off the root note with the pinky on the sixth string, and I think you’ll see what I mean. In each case, Justin is just playing the root note on the fifth string, not the sixth.
