Can someone explain what type of beef that was? And what did she put in the pot with the beef to turn the water yellowish? I am a little lost with this recipe!! Thanks
.........stewing beef, or you can use beef shank. The tougher cuts are usually used for soups. The package of pumpkin/beef soup mix changed the colour of the water in the pot but if you didn't want to use the package mix (salty !), a piece of fresh pumpkin would do the same thing.
Why don't you put pimento (allspice berries) in the soup? I notice you don't use that ingredient very much. Pimento is what gives Jamaican dishes that authentic island flavor.

I usually grate the pumpkin and put it in....?
Can someone explain what type of beef that was? And what did she put in the pot with the beef to turn the water yellowish? I am a little lost with this recipe!! Thanks
Pumpkin
She most likely used chunks of stewing beef and the yellow colour was from the pumpkin she added
+MsAutomaticPrincess thank you sweety
+jackielajohn dejavu Glad you got your answer. Our Cook Like A Jamaican community is the best! We love Team Fay!

I have a question.. I know how to clean chicken using vinegar but do you use it to clean beef as well? Thanks!!
+Kristi Bennett (Exquisite Candles) no. If you want you can give it a quick rinse with water and pat dry
it's a pumpkin soup w/ beef and vegetables
+Ricky RICH You're right, but for some reason we call it beef soup and don't give the pumpkin much credit LOL
Yeah bcuz your mom said the pumpkin is a"must" loll, so it's pumpkin soup practically loll
