- This Bible belongs to an elderly customer of mine. She’s had it in her possession since she was young. The Bible itself is a mass produced item and it really doesn’t have a hole lot of market value. But it meant everything to the customer so that’s why she wanted it restored. This one took me over 8 hours to get done. This was a $500 job, needless to say to say not much profit on this one, but it’s ok as long as she is happy, that’s what matters.

Kept waiting for those pictures to rip, still can't believe you got them out intact. Great job as usual, I'm sure the owner was extremely happy, good for another 70 years.

OLD Leather Smith here, nice job Steve. The last one I got in came in pieces, I had 2 repair 6 pages, and replace Front Back and spine. It's not done yet I will B carving the front cover and gold leafing it, and the spine.

So impressive! My grandson has been learning how to make leather belts in high school and loves working with leather. I have an industrial sewing machine in my shop and make leather bags but I'm new to belts and tooling. I'd like to know more and have been watching lots of videos. Thank you for all that you content creators put out there for us amateurs!

I have that same Douay Rheims Bible, which I inherited from my parents. Thankfully, mine is in better shape, although it does have some damage. Kudos to your restoration of a beautiful Bible! ❤

I think I'm right in saying that the strings across the back are supposed to be structural, not just decorative; the ends should be left long, frayed out and glued in place. That's as much as I remember. I'd ask my Dad but he's no longer with us.
