I'm really grateful for this tutorial, now I believe I can finally progress into it even when I don't have access to mats since I won't skip steps

YES! I'm so glad! I really think you can get it. That's why I wanted to set realistic time expectations in the video. It may take a while, but you can do it anywhere. @ozzux Trains on just tile in his house (which is why I referenced that) and he has gotten an impressive amount of tricks so far!

I’ve been struggling with this stupid thing for forever. I can webster, btwist, cheat 9, and various other tricks considered harder than a backtuck, but I cannot land one for the life of me (or even a back handspring). I hope this can help, it looks great. Thank you!

You've got this!! I hope it helps! We all have struggle tricks, just take your time and you can overcome this obstacle!

Zak Ferguson thank you for the motivation, zak! My issue is that whenever i go into a full back handspring, i twist to the side before my hands hit the ground. It’s not even a conscious movement, my body reflexively twists (i guess in an attempt to “save” itself).
I guess I’ll just keep drilling it.

Yeah, just drill it and try to do the "a little more sideways macacao but stare at your hands the whole time and it will start to acclimate your brain to the motion and specifically the motion blur.
      YOU'VE GOT THIS!

Also, I just realized, you teach at Enso!? That’s crazy, I live like 10 minutes away! Might have to check it out sometime :-D

That's right! You can do a trial class, or open gyms or private lessons 😁

When I was in my 20's, a martial arts guy on my submarine taught a group of us how to do back handsprings. Two of us got it that day, one of us was already progressing right to a full backflip that day.
Then I hurt my knee (doing unrelated stupid things) and I've not tried again since. I'm in my 40's now and I'm wondering if this will be the best way to get myself into traction, ha.

I would say if you are a healthy, fit 40 year old, then it's 100% possible to learn to flip.
The oldest person I've taught to flip was a man on his 60th birthday. I was blown away that he was so courageous and followed my advice to the letter and actually flipped!

I am at the back handspring on soft ground and backflip (tucked but sort of backward jump) on trampoline level. Its a little hard to transition from a whip to a tuck due to the back arc. From a back arc jump its wayyyyy harder to tuck compared to a straighter body jump. Kind of struggle to tuck and rotate due to fear. Its very sad 🥲🥲🥲

You should do those hanging leg lifts I show in the video :). They will work your core and get you strong enough to tuck in that position.
If you struggle to rotate due to fear you need to either do 1000 reps of the motion you're at or go back to the "just before back handspring macacao" and do that a ton until you aren't afraid.
Next week's method will also help 👍🏼

    backfull next?

    • @ZakFerguson

SOON! I will be going over the basic flips and then do full. It should be like.. a month? My reasoning is because It's literally Back, Front, and Side flip combined in that order for one of the methods. Plus I've shot almost all the footage for FBS flips except the talking and a good bit of full.
