    Had the ERC-4 for a couple of years and it does sound amazing. The lack of gapless playback was an unpleasant surprise, but I lived with it for a while because it does sound stunning for the price point. I’ve since upgraded to a Rotel DT-6000 but the ERC 4 is still a favorite.

    Lack of gapless playback is a deal killer. I don't care what the build quality is. Gapless is a 100% requirement. This thing is $700 and doesn't support the gapless playback of a $50 Sony DVD player. It is just weird to me that companies would spend so much on good DACs and components and leave out a basic requirement of the Redbook standard. For those that don't listen to classical, live albums, and prog rock I guess it is fine but man that is a weird thing to leave out on something so expensive.

      It is a strange decision. Why any manufacturer would do this is odd.

      Not having gapless playback reminds me of the 8-track player we had in my dad's car in 1970. An album that had long songs (ie: Led Zeppelin's first album) would feature a fadeout to silence during the song, then a giant kachunka as the player went to the next set of tracks, and then the song would fade back in at the same place it had started fading out. Aah-noy-ing

      I agree 100%. What shortsightedness from this manufacturer. They've missed the boat with this one regarding gapless play. This is what happens when your engineers might be Millennials that weren't around in the '80s when CD players came on the scene. You can do it, Emotiva !! Go sharpen your pencils and fix this non-gapless issue.
      Thanks to this gentlemen for actually even mentioning whether or not it messes with the all so critical timing of songs or movements that are meant to flow into each other. That's sacred ground in my book and it ought not to be f#$^ked with.
      I own a good number of CD players (Sony, Onkyo, Yamaha, etc.) plus a bunch of Sony DVD players that I bought to use as CD players. Not only do they all sound good, but they all play gapless !!!
      If they fix the gapless issue, this would make for a nice player.
      Also, at this pricepoint, it should have a good quality digital to analog converter. This camp that feels that a separate DAC is going to be the Holy Grail of sound quality; I just don't buy into it. Unless they're (DAC manufacturers) designing their own chips, Manufacturers of CD players use the same off-the-shelf silicon DAC ICs as the folks that want you to buy a separate DAC component, rather than an embedded one. Just my feeling.
      Good luck with your fight against cancer. I know you will beat it soon, and be back to yourself again. Take care, and thanks for the video.

      I find it unbelievable that this is a thing with CD players now. I’ve had CD players for 40 years and not one of them introduced gaps between tracks, it would have been unthinkable. If the CD format had done this from day one, it would have struggled to achieve the dominance it did, and would have possibly flopped.

      Hard for me to understand this lack of feature on a new CD player considering my vintage CD players all have gapless capabilities.

    • @AG-bp3ll
      @AG-bp3ll 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@haydendoan7691 Vintage CD players were designed to support the Redbook standard from the ground up. I think newer CD players from Chinese manufacturers are basing their CD players on digital media players or versions of Linux. These are basically computers reading CDs and playing the audio so gapless support has to be programmed in. They are somehow more complicated than vintage CD players but also more limited as many don't support features that were standard in the 90s.

    What I dont understand is the dropping of eject on the remote controllers. Bought a Denon four years ago and desperately looked for a CD player that came with a remote that had the eject function , couldnt find one. And it was an expensive CD player , only the Marantz was more expensive. Simply put with a good CD player on the remote should be all the functions so that I never have to touch the player itself. So annoying.

    Unbelievable that a company would think that non gapless playback is acceptable. Sounds like the firmware is just a free media player. It could be made from unobtainium, sound like $10k and cost $50, but not a chance I’m listening to an album where the tracks flow into each other with gaps.

    • @AG-bp3ll
      @AG-bp3ll 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @theheathster2 There are other options. Sony and Panasonic make Blu-ray players that are a few hundred dollars less than the Emotiva, have a solid build quality and follow correct CD standards. The Sony X800-M2 even supports SACD and DVD-audio. Plus you get support for fantastic sounding Blu-ray audio like Rhino's Quadio line.

    So I am not going to knock people who want decent sound quality from a CD player and this looks great.

    no gapless means its a complete failure. nothing else matters if it can't follow the CD spec.

  • @alm5693
    @alm5693 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    Not gapless meaning there's a moment of silence between tracks? So an album where the tracks blend into each other is going to be interrupted with little blips of silence between songs? I've dealt with that when burning my own CDs and it's a deal breaker.

    • @AG-bp3ll
      @AG-bp3ll 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @alm5693 Yes, that is what it means. If you listen to a live album or classical that is intended to be a continuous performance there will be a pause as it changes tracks. The issue with modern players from China is they are really more digital players that support playing audio from CDs than actual compact disc players that follow standards like Redbook. There are still players that support gapless but they are becoming rare. I've stuck with older players from before this nonsense started or blu-ray players from Sony and Panasonic that still follow standards.

    I can’t agree with you on the ERC-4, the lack of gapless playback just kills many of my albums.
    What I completely agree with you on is your excellent choice of CDs. Donald Fagan’s The Nightfly
    is one of the best sounding albums ever made, can still remember buying the vinyl, hard to think that
    was 1982. I also hate, with a passion, the term Yacht Rock, shame people invent such stupid
    terms, the did that to jazz styles so many times, I find it derogatory.

    I've had the ERC-4 for a couple years now, and it is an excellent sounding machine, no complaints on audio whatsoever. Playing through Klipsch Cornwall speakers, BTW. Gapless playback has no value to me, seems like a solution looking for a problem, IMHO. My only gripe is the relatively lethargic user interface as far an opening, loading, starting and so forth. Takes too long to open/close the tray, and to begin playback. I find myself waiting on the machine too often. And, why does it always begin playing when a CD is inserted? My other CD player is a NAD BEE unit, and its user interface is much more responsive. Still, I'm very happy with e ERC-4. My 2¢.

      It is such a good player otherwise but getting through a live album with the pauses is annoying. One of the big selling points of CD was having 60 plus minutes of classical and concerts with no interuptions and not having to flip over records. I can't understand why this is neglected on something so expensive.
