Seems Topping build a dac around the Holo board and included many features to a certain price point but left out the high quality parts (premium capacitors, lineair power supply) needed to make this really shine. So the original communicated price of 799$ is more correct I believe. Now I would rather save a little more and go for a more premium build from Gustard, Denafrips.. I hope Topping will be back one day with a really good design but for now I´m holding on and enjoy my D70s 😊
I was lovingly clinging to my d70s until I got the cyan 2. First dac that sounded better to me, and I tried MANY. The d70s is truly unique among delta sigma dacs imo - for what it is it's a masterpiece - but I think the next logical step if you want to upgrade is to go true r2r. No idea if this new topping will cut it but the cyan 2 is where it's at for me.
@@lisar3944The Cyan 2 is also the highest on my list but I don´t like the black/copper finish, all my other equipment is silver 😅 I also like the Cyan 2 is a pure dac, no other functions. All dacs should be like this 🤞🏻
I spent quite a bit of time describing the sound of the music as it pertains to this Dac. Rewatch the video and pay attention to when I discuss the music selection.
These days I don't expect 44.1 Khz to exist anymore, and hopefully it's on 24 bit and not 16 otherwise it's an even bigger disaster. 16 should not exist in my opinion, 24 bit / 48 khz is the minimum requirement for hifi, otherwise this is not hifi sry this is my opinion
In my best opinion, they were in a hurry, and just made a black box and a fancy name. I am sure it is good, but damn Hire a designer. It looks like an old Topping D70S with a display.
Agreed owning a D70s, I actually like the look of the D70s more because this is ´trying´ to implement a display but it looks rather stupid/cheap. The buttons do come from the D70s 😊
I appreciate your review of this overpriced dac but I'm sure its awesome. My only issue is referencing recordings made in 1956 used to review the fidelity of this equipment? I would recommend using modern recordings made from the 1980 to date. Suggestions: Creep - Lina Hall Birds - Dominique its-Aimie Blackbird - Beyonce Bubbles - Yosi Horikawa Chocolate Chip Trip - Tool Feather Moon - Vienna Teng
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll give those a listen. I did listen to many other recordings over several years weeks. I only hi lighted a few. Also Fleetwood Mac Rumors is from 1977.
It seemed slightly brighter than my Serande R2R dac. However after listening for a 3 hour session, I didn’t feel like I had to stop listening due to fatigue. Of course with tone control you can easily tame it if it bothers you. I’m not sure what else I can add to this.
The ia255.1 costs barely over a hundred and already solved DACs from a functional point of view, so 999 for any kind of DAC makes it not worth it by definition. Well, unless you think spending as much as an iPhone for a fancy case and a tiny display is.
Bruce - quite the comprehensive technical review and explanation - but - you had me at "hello" . . .
Thanks 😊
I LOVE the Chet Baker sings album. Awesome mono recordings.
It’s not really a collaboration. Topping bought a bunch of R2R boards from Holo Audio and built a DAC around them.
Thanks for that update.
Is that a bad thing?
Nice video! How would you rate this against Fiio K11 R2R? Is the Topping significantly better sounding, especially considering the price?
Great review! Thank you so much.😊
I’m glad you enjoyed it!

Great review. Is the Bluetooth option a way to stream to (through?) it? I guess most potential customers would stream from a computer/laptop, no?
Yes you can stream via Bluetooth
Lol
Similar price to Ares. Which is better?
Great video would the DAC work my stereo boom box.
All best on your health.
If the boombox accepts either XLR or RCA inputs
Nope. Manual says it only works with Ghetto Blasters.
In a review of 17min, you only gave a few seconds to describe the sound!!! That’s the most important aspect

"Treble is somewhat bright but not fatiguing". Sounds a bit contradictive to me.

😂😂😂
Ok
You miss the point. It's a R2R DAC, preamp, and PEQ in one box. Try that for your $100.
A big drawback that all topping days have only 2 digital inputs, one optical and the second coax, while other brands offer 4 inputs.
Thats false, completely false.
Che noia queste recensioni tutte uguali, sempre le stesse parooe sempre le stesse conclusioni !
Then don’t watch them
