    I remember the time I interviewed the Police. Actually, they interviewed me. I had a lawyer present.

    Funny hearing Martin mention Dave Pegg. When I worked in radio in the ‘90s I met Pegg a few times as I regularly went to the Fairport Cropredy festival. I asked him once if he’d do an interview with me so we went to the pub. The conversation turned to famous drinking sessions he’d had and he recounted the time Fairport appeared as extras in an Oliver Reed film back in the ‘70s. They were filming in a pub - you can probably guess where this is going - and they ended up having a lock in that lasted for 36 hours. The barman made a note of whar Reed consumed - as I remember it was 75 pints and 50 shots of whiskey.

      Fellow Cropredy veteran here. When Peggy put out his book, and was signing copies at Croppers, as he signed mine, he told me Robert Plant was coming that year. It must have been that Dave, Planty and myself all share a Midlands accent. Sure enough, Robert turned up and I had a little moment with them.
      My oddest moment was being back stage at a Kiss concert, and I thought I recognised a lady that was hanging out there. I said 'Hello', she said 'Hi!'. As she spoke in an American accent, I realised I couldn't possibly know her. Turned out she was Diana Ross.

      @@glerp10000000000 I loved Cropredy, it was the highlight of my year back then. Another wonderful memory involves Robert Plant and Jimmy Page. The two of them were wandering around in the crowd in either 1995 or 1996, I forget exactly. Roy Harper and his son Nick were on. Roy was obviously a bit worse for wear and kept having to muck about between songs, tuning up or changing a string. At one point to fill in, Nick played the intro to ‘Stairway to Heaven’ when suddenly a commotion started near me in the crowd. A long haired gent was bellowing “BOO! GERROFF!” and lobbing plastic cups stagewards. It was Plant. Page was beside him, in stitches.

      @@patrickcrowther9195 That would be 1994. My favourite year. I have a recording of Roy's set and that tuning went on for an age. Nick did a Zappa song. Lindisfarne played a blinder. We got Man and Blodwyn Pig. I'm gutted I didn't see Page and Plant, but c'est la vie..

    In the early 2000's I arrived in NYC after a 3 year journalism internship at the Miami Herald. The Queens newspaper wanted a local feature, so I decided to do a Ramones article. I managed to track down Marky Ramone at his girlfriend's apt in Brooklyn. He talked to me for over an hour how Joey wrote the lyrics, Dee Dee the melody, and Johnny the licks. I taped the interview over the phone with my old school Sony cassette recorder. Somehow another story came up immediately after and I accidentally taped over the interview.

    What I took away from the Dennis DeYoung interview was how someone so eccentric could be such a big picture guy. He asked Pete about his wife and how long they had been married. Dennis himself has been married to the same woman for 53 years. I just thought to myself man this guy knows what's really important in life and anyone who's been married for a long time knows how big of an accomplishment it is to be in a successful marriage.

    I saw Anthrax at The Phoenix Concert Hall in Toronto back in 1998. Great venue and Anthrax put on an amazing show back in the John Bush days. That was the first time I met the band and got a killer show poster off the wall inside the venue. They did an amazing cover of the song Black Sabbath. I love both Joey & John eras BUT their live shows back in the 90’s were so much better. They were so exciting live. They’re still good live but much more boring as they continue to only play the same dozen songs lol they really need start switching it up again.

I just don't understand why people show no interest in listening to the artists themselves talk about their music.

      @@seaoftranquilityprog I suppose it depends on personal taste, all of the artists you have listed are top drawer but you could argue that their not as well known/popular as your Metallica's or Maidens, a good example would be your album reviews which generally get between one to three thousand views whereas your Metallica 72 seasons is currently at thirty thousand, it doesn't mean that Metallica are better than any of the great artists you have listed just more popular be it through their music or longevity.

    Did you ever interview members of Yes or ELP?

  • @kcewing1
    @kcewing1 ปีที่แล้ว

    You were wondering why you don't get the views on your artist interviews, and it struck me that my reactions to seeing interviews posted is first and foremost, trepidation! A couple reasons - one, watching an interview can be uncomfortable. I'm usually worried that the interviewer is going to ask dumb questions and annoy the artist, and then it's gonna get awkward, and, two, the artist is gonna turn out to be an asshole, or unlikable, or boring, or a disappointment as a human being. I have actually ignored TH-cam interviews of my favorite musicians simply because I get too much anxiety wondering what to expect. A lot of these guys have been my heroes my entire adult life - I've put them on a pedestal and I don't want them to fall off. For example, I finally forced myself to watch a Jon Anderson interview by Rick Beato about a year or so ago. I've been listening to Yes since I was twelve years old, and I've heard good and bad things about Anderson over the years, even on your Hudson Valley Squares, so I was full of trepidation about seeing him interviewed. Turns out he was a good guy and a good interview. But I found it hard to enjoy the session because I was so worried something awkward was gonna happen. I wonder if anybody else feels the same way? Maybe I'm too uptight, lol!
