John Barnes was so good. He'd be a hell of a player in todays game. He might be in my top 3 of all time.

You don’t get an atmosphere like that anymore. I always loved the song ‘ we’re all on the March “ when you had just scored and were winning in a big cup tie. Unfortunately the devaluation of the FA cup is responsible for that.

That’s right, I’ve seen it a couple of times. All the young Liverpool fans in their casual gear and bucket hats at the bottom of the Kippax. Exchanging views on the game with their friends following city on the other side of the fence. That’s what they showed in that programme. 🤣🤣

Barnes was and is an absolute legend. Should be Sir John Barnes but footballers don't get knighthoods.

I was in the Kippax and being hit with a tyre nut on the head, mate was laughing about this lump getting bigger and bigger as the game went on , we best them 4-0 and I had a lump on my head like something out the beano !

@Klippity_KloppI remember it well. We could afford to go to a game with our pocket money.

Liverpool were just too good that season. Always found it strange that we had such a good record against them in the 80’s whether at Anfield or Old Trafford. United finished 2nd in 87/88 but we were never challenging for the title. Ended up being a 9 point gap. Surprised it wasn’t 20 points.

    were Liverpool Negative ?

They were called that in the 70s and early 80s, apparently because they killed games off by using the back pass rule a lot when ahead. I call it game management.

@@gerwulfthered154 we could’ve used a bit of that “negativity” in 89 verse Arsenal.
