- Most HEATED Match in Football History
2006 World Cup Quarter Final
Portugal 1-0 Netherlands
The Battle of Nuremberg is the nickname of a football match played in the round of 16 of the 2006 FIFA World Cup between Portugal and the Netherlands at the Max-Morlock-Stadion in Nuremberg on 25 June 2006. Russian referee Valentin Ivanov issued a FIFA World Cup record four red cards and 16 yellow cards, setting a new record for cards shown at any FIFA-administered international tournament.

If the ref gave a red card for the dangerous attack on CR7 at the beginning he would have had an easier game to deal with .
Everything started in there. Scolari faced Vam Basten, charging him of demanding his players to do it and he was openly laughing and enjoying. Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth. It could have been worse if it was not a knock out match.
that foul was not for red card.
I wish every match would be like this, but then again, who would remember all those new player names every week after last ones were killed.
)))) согласен/agree
Most competitive MMA match I have ever seen, surprised it went to the judges, was expecting a straight KO. REMATCH PLEASE!!!
Rematch? Watch argentina vs netherlands from last world cup😂
You must have not seen the re-match - Netherlands vs Spain, 2010 final 🙈
The amount of cards shown in the game isn't a determinant at all. OK, that match was kinda brutal, but it was still a worldie play-off tournament competition. All of those red cards were discussive. Let's make football great MEN game again. Good luck! PS. I am Polish, but still: HET BAL VAN HET GOUD GEMAAKT! ORANJE!!!
I grew up in the 60s in England. This was nothing compared to some matches then
Battle of Santiago 62'. Every other football match is a gay-fest.
Robben should've had a penalty for that challenge in the first half. I remember this game really well, I was 5 at the time.
@@travis_stranger как там майдан?
I remember, all the cards seemed justified on the day but the Dutch red for Van Vommel would have been overturned by the modern VAR. In fact the modern tackling laws would have instilled better behaviour by the players. I remember on the day, the Russian referee was generally praised by most, he was consistent and the poor standard of behaviour was initiated by the players. He had to react to what he saw.
poor ref 2 reds where never reds he over reacted
@@luther-pd5uy ridiculous, football isn't MMA
It just started because of the ref. Van Basten demanded to his players to play far too hard on CR7 amd the referee just gave yellow on clear red. Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth. He clearly lost the control of it.
Thank you for your objectivity
@@luther-pd5uy the one for Deco was outrageous. However, Deco could have deserved a red straight away when he got only a yellow. His tackle was from behind and he didn't play the ball.
Back then when Robben and Sneijder still had hair on their head.
"has" is wrong
Back then when "has" been used correctly in a sentence
@@MrGameplayer27 The year -500 on Pandora?
They always did have hair, people just cut their hair off and prefer it that way lol
In a universe in which VAR existed in 2006, this match is still being played.
Back then, the goals weren't that important. The teams with the most yellow and red cards were the winners of the game. With today's standards, there would be at least 4 more red cards.
How did Van Bommel finish this game? It's beyond me
I don't really know much about his career, since I didn't watch football too much in my childhood. But the guy slowly seemed to have refined himself into a master fouler in the late 2000's. Being able to push that past foul limit just enough to where he didn't really commit a foul. Something which he especially mastered in 2010's world cup iirc.
@@somethingwithultra7231 I can tell you more about him bro.. he is my favourite player back then.. he's one hell at what he does.. his technique is up there
It wasn't a quarter final. It was the round of 16, after the group stage (in which both teams had won all three of their matches).
1080p? I thought I was watching Minecraft football for a second.
it's called soccer not football dude
Every Country in the world it’s called Football ⚽️ only in America 🇺🇸 it’s called Soccer. BTW what you call Football is a game you hardly use your Foot . WTF!
Chile v Italy 1962. THAT'S violence.
4:56 that was penalty, he didn't give couple of red cards aswell, he was incompetente and that cost him mess in that day, let me guess, you justify him because he is russuan as you?! Lmao 🤡🤣💩 cringe...
Many blamed the referee but both teams really gave him no choice. Dirty match.
Some of those yellow cards deserved a direct red, in my opinion. Maybe that would have stopped further cards later on? No one can really know.
Referee sux they lack eggs, when a match go out of control is 100% referee fault, an early red card control anygame.
Similar to Spain vs Netherlands in the World Cup final 2010 and Argentina vs Netherlands in World Cup 2022
Mais conhecida pela batalha de Nuremberga!

You just hate Ronaldo, don't you?
@@Madidaaa1 what the hell has a 1970 football match got to do with weather I like Ronaldo ? I actually thought he was a very good player when he was younger
Yeah amongst other
The Netherlands had only one thing in mind, to hurt Ronaldo in this game. Just like France 2016

Tirado 90 minutos
Would be funny 😅
Has to be the worst collection of shots at goal from the Dutch. They should have won by a mile

Russian ref totally lost the plot
He didn’t show few yellows at the very start after brutal hacks of CR7, and it became open season on main dribblers on the field Ronaldo, Robben, Deco
A red to Boulahrouz early on could have set a different tone
I agree, some of the yellows should have been direct red cards.
@@daedalron
By today’s standards every other foul that ref even bothered to call is a straight red )
Best MMA game Ive ever seen.
For me the moment I realised the level of corruption in football. Totally incapable referee, using his yellow card as a tool to frustrate players and influence the outcome of the game. This 12 minute recap is not showing you the whole picture at all. It was a clearcut surrealistically fake football game.
English FA Cup Final replay: Old Trafford 1970 Chelsea-Leeds 2-1. Possibly the dirtiest match ever played. The players were kicking each other all the time, the referee just let them get on with it. Great to watch, mind you!
Episches Gesemmel ♥️
The elbow on Figo looked accidental
I was at this game. Too drunk barely remember any of it I had to ask somebody afterward if Portugal deserved to win...
answer was no sadly for the Dutch.
Yes we did. The Dutch are not that great on football
Would have been more fun to watch with the music "everyone was kung fu fighting" in the back ground.
Souness, Keane, Gentile, Mozer, Hilário, Vierchwood, Thern, Schwarz, Vinnie J., Montero, Duncan Ferguson and all the hardmen of the 50s, 60s and 70s wept with Pride looking at the boys play on!
Netherlands vs Argentina match was also theatrical!
With Ryan Stiles from Who's line is it Anyway Refereeing I'm not surprised!!
People are out here thinking Argentina vs Netherlands was the most heated match
probably is for a big level game. but compared to say uruguay in the 50s its a bit soft. they were trying to kill people :P
Is Netherlands’ style, they did it here against Portugal and that South Africa World Cup final against Spain.
They lost against all three teams despite these “tactics” 🤣😆
How didnt robben get penalty he got kicked in the chest lol
I’ve read an interview with this ref after this match he said a lot of people had said to him they had been hoping it would go to extra time.
Yea i think they played bothvat Barca then
Fair result, Robben has gone down in history as one of the worst cheats and divers, shame because he could have been good
Could have been good?????? 😂😂😂😂
This all kicked mainly after Figo got air punched in the face lol
This game was bought. Portugal become one of the favorite to the final, and only a tough referee could stopped the Portugal team.
All Dutch's matchs was the most dangerous this year. Even in Final. Horrible Mr Web
I first was disappointed no english broadcast, but it didn't matter because futball is every language ❤
The Dutch started the trouble but bad reaction from the Portuguese team who reacted like Zidane.

Porcos russos.
What a load of fairies 🧚♀
If only pepe was there.
then he would be the first to go off the field with red. Thats all
Imagine the carnage that Pepe would have done in the Battle of Nuremberg had he been included in Portugal’s 2006 FIFA World Cup Squad!!
Note, Pepe wouldn’t earn his 1st Call up/Make his debut with The Portugal National Team until September 2007
Pepe was called to quinas squad in part due to this series of games ... specially france & german
PEPE 👍🏻
Did they know a hockey game broke out during this soccer match.
I take it you've never seen Leeds United v Chelsea FA Cup semi-final replay 1970. Back in those day's men were men, not overpaid prima donnas.
Holland played the nastiest match ever...? What a shock... 🙄
After all the criticism towards Argentina for the game against The Netherlands in the World Cup, I kept thinking back to this game... I don't understand how people just forget the dutch always play rough/ dirty. It's pretty much a fact by now.
I would say, with a neutral ref, it was a fair match to Portugal. In 2002 the history was another...
If the ref doesn’t give free kicks for stupid fouls right from the start then they stop diving as they know they’re not gonna get anything.
4:50 Robben gets kicked into shoulder, hits the ground like he got punched by hulk, looks at referee and then, holds his leg in severe pain, after referee is not paying attention to him the pain goes away. They must train acting much more than actual football.
Its not about if hes hurt or not. Its about his opponent charging in wildy with his feed near head hight, while the ball is clearly going to go lower then where the feed are aiming for. At this skill level this is clearly a kamikaze charge. Hes hitting the ball where portugal gets the free kick. Also if you read the game. People where really steamed up. Also the elbow presented to figo is very doubtfull. A defender always after crossing the attacker makes himself big so they cannot come around. Its called shielding.
Netherland again. Remember 2010 world cup final againts Spain.
You have obviously never watched over 45s Sunday League
Futbolun futbol olduğu zamanlar aq ... Ne yıllardı bee ...
Ah, the good ole days without VAR :)
I for one completely lost count or track of yellow and/or red cards handed out in this game! What is the total number of yellow cards, total number of red cards handed out in this game? How many players from each teac left in the filed still playing by the end of the game????
The Russian referee was on the vodka after dishing out 16 yellow cards and 4 red cards.
How on Earth did a person who can’t properly say the letter “r” get a job as a football commentator…

In retrospect it is quite funny. Just like after 2010 with his Spain fuckup, maybe this is what would go on to give Robben his diving rep. As he never wanted to lose out on what (despite is being said off-side) should have been a hard pen.

god damn, what a stacked Portuguese team. Like, holy fuck! Penaldo, Figo, Maniche, Deco, Thiago, Nuno Gomez, Simao.... and of all of these legends my only favorite Portuguese player had still been Pauleta LOL
Well, Netherlands had some pretty good ballers, too... although I don't understand why Ruud did not play in this game. At that time he was peaking for Man Utd and piquing the interest of RM if memory serves me well, so why is the loser RvP playing before Ruud?? Mind boggling, really...
Last but not least, from these highlights the game didn't seem so violent like I thought you meant by "heated". There were some on-the-edge tackles, but nothing malicious (except maybe for the attack on Robben in the penalty box around the 5th minute in this clip... that one - although still not malicious, I think - it's been a bit unsportsmanlike. But other than that, pretty normal fouls....)
