- Armortek Tiger 1 comes with functional but not detailed mudguards. In this video I show you how I make detailed metal components to bring the model up to a higher standard.
I make new front mudguards in brass from scratch. The kit components do not resemble the real vehicle in the way they fit to the hull. I try to fix this by making my own version. I s as Lao add the detail of the retainers which stop the mudguards from flapping while driving,
I then fit a holder for spare reach to the front hull. Track hangers were not a factory fitter component during the war. They were often fitted by the field workshops post delivery. They would give extra protection to the front hull armour.
I then add the detail of the MG cover retainer. The MG cover was part of the complicated process to make the vehicle water tight for deep water wading. The vehicle was capable of driving fully submerged. I believe the preparation for this took about 8 hours.

I've been wondering how much extra weight your upgrades add to the basic set up? Will the additional weight affect the motor or battery life?
Regarding the added weight. Won’t make any difference. Most of what I have added in the Early Tiger so far is saving weight. My new turret bin is half the weight of the original. My mudguards in brass are lighter than the steel kit ones. The kit feifel components are heavy white metal and I will replace with a lighter version. The tiger originally was capable of taking a blank firing magazine. This was an extremely heavy item. If I fit my 88mm gun breech and full interior it will still be lighter. So far everything I have added is weight saving. My interior gun enhancements actually balance the gun barrel and reduce the effort required by the motor to operate elevation.
There is nothing I could add that the vehicle couldn’t handle.

Hi, I was a little confused on how you soldered. Am I right in saying that you applied solder first, joined the two parts then reheated for them to bond? Its something that I want to do on future Armortek models. Good up the good work.
It’s the way I attach the pieces. Otherwise I find it hard to get enough heat to make the joint, just takes a few seconds with a small gas heat gun. Apply some flux also. Use dome small clamps. Most important to keep everything clean for a good joint.
I’m not an expert metalworker but it’s probably like brazing but with solder instead of welding rods. The other mudguards I show on lathe late tiger was a kit mudguards which I detailed using other components. The kit components back in 2007 were a bit clunky but I think they still use same mudguards components.
