    I was a master model builder by the time I hit my late teens, I had entered a millennium falcon that I had finally was able to get a hold of, Big is AMT who did the kids back in the day got hit so hard they ran out of them, I weathered that thing to perfection I remember the reactions to people at it first saw it compared to others that it done theirs, I just got a lot of thumbs up for it, but that was a long time ago but I just remember the peace and tranquility of model building in my childhood… Great job

      I also had that kit. I weathered mine with just powdered pastel chalks. It REALLY made a difference in the look of the kit. As my modeling talents got better, I moved on to other kits but, I would've really liked to go back and do a Millennium Falcon all over again with the better techniques I learned. You're right, those were the days.

    I wanted to say thank you for posting this video. I am an experienced miniature painter that just got into the world of scale models. The new products (enamels, thinners and such) were a bit intimidating at first, but this video gave me the confidence to try some weathering techniques on my TIE fighter and it looks great! Thanks for the tips.

    I remember making models as a kid, but not to these standards. We never had the internet back then, nor large clubs, or anything like that. These series that you do are awakening the passion again and I may go buy one of you beginner recommedations I was watching earlier today. I have an airbrush I bought for my woodturned bowls which will come handy for this too. I think this may just be a good way to weather out these hard frosts we're having. I can still turn in my shed but it's minus 3 centigrade inside the shed. Time to get an indoor pursuit I think.
    I get the 'sprues' in the name, but I see no beers being consumed. What is with that @sprewsnbrews ? P.S. new sub.

    Helpful vid on weathering. Good work. On your vid editing, it's clear to see as you transition from segment to segment, but it works! Actually, yours are much easier to follow, without excess footage - yet enough to make the learning points, Much better for ease of listening/watching.

    I have wanted to add weathering to the project in doing but hadn't a clue how to do it or to use the washes so it was going to be a pss until this video.
    You've made it seem so easy that even knowing nothing about shading and lighting, I should have enough about me to be able to add some "basic" weathering.
    Another unrelated headache in having is knowing the order to prime, paint and attach the props and wheels or which glue to attach them with if I do end up sorting them before attaching to the painted body work.

    Curious, I am building up and detailing a 1:18 Vietnam era PBR patrol boat. How would you weather it? It did not rust as it is fiberglass. It would not get grime as it would have washed off in the rain. I suppose paint would have rubbed off and battle damage would show white. Maybe the paint is streaked where dirt or rain, or brown river water would run off. Maybe mud around where people walk. Potential chipping in the armor plates and turret. This one has me puzzled. Sun baked faded paint with streaks maybe.

    I am a huge fan of yours and your work. You have encouraged me to get back into modeling, something that I tried and failed at when I was a kid but thanks to your videos I am encouraged and willing to try and make mistakes....much to the chagrin of my wife. I was wondering if you knew of a great kit that featured an up-armored Hummvee with a 240B machine gun? I have looked everywhere and can't find a decent model. That was the vehicle I drove in Iraq and would love to make it. Appreciate all your videos and all the helpful hints and such you have given along the way. Any plans to try your hand at plastic 1/32 scale toy soldiers?

    Dear Hank: I know this question is a few months late but I just got into scale modeling during a surgical convalescence. Hadn’t built a model since 1980. Now I’m 56 and a WW2 buff. I’ve got a bunch of German armor from various sources. My question is: I’ve got a new Dragon 1/35 Jagdpanther smart kit for the so called “late production “ variant. I’m leaning toward priming the whole thing on the sprues with a mud red color primer. Or, there’s the black primer to cast shadows when applying base coat Dunkelgelb. Any advice you can give me? This kit was mui expensive and I figured everything should get primed. I plan to use weathering, chipping and wash. I’m also likely going to apply Zimmerit. I did my research on what patterns were used on what tanks etc.. What do you think of this plan? Or the order of things? Might put the Zimmerit on before priming. Not sure. Help please. New Subscriber Dan. Nice channel and work!

      @SpruesNBrews  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't personally use a lot of laquers, but you should be fine as long as your weathering carrier isn't the same as your paint carrier (for example, acrylic thinners will eat acrylic varnishes, whereas enamel thinners won't eat acrylic varnishes). Hope that helps!
