He left all his personal file in it, Family photos, friends photo, Gay friend photos along with their names and addresses. I even gotten 8mm Video tapes from Thrift Shops where they didn't erase them before giving them away. This lady love shooting video of her nude husband showing. And her kids showing, and her showing. Always erase any data before dumping or giving it away.

I don't wipe old drives; I disassemble them. Totally secure, and the disks are fun to play with.

Dear random youtuber, Please do not listen to people's comments especially Americans (sorry for the offence), they are very dumb and think their laws apply to every country which for them includes Asia, Europe, Africa and Australia (as countries). If it spins it will work, all you need is the bootable CD for HDD Regenerator. I have used the software to revive many disk's and recover files to a new drive. More often than not, the drives will function properly as the error is in the magnetic flux on the platters, so HDD Regen just amplifies the flux to regenerate the disk and it doesn't care what operating system, formatting, etc. Its a valuable tool to have in your kit. Google hdd regenerator

Umm, I either keep the old hard drives or cut them up with an angle grinder. Some are blissfully oblivious of all this......until they aren't of course.

I think for late Win 9x and some Win XP titles these machines with similar graphics cards are actually a decent choice. You could also upgrade the GPU and a dedicated sound card like the ESS Solo to get more compatibility.

The video you made was necessary as a cautionary tale but that went over people's heads, the fact people wanted you to find abuse of minors on the hard drive is actually disgusting because if you really think logically about that, that would mean many kids suffered. I'm glad the guy wasn't angry and it seems like maybe he is going to give you some of his unwanted old tech for future videos. The Americanisation of the internet is another component to the outrage in the comments, the America viewers believe the rest of the world follows everything america does and that the laws in america are applicable in all territories around the world which is just ignorant on so many levels. People seem to enjoy making themselves offended when watching a video they clicked on knowing what the potential content could be, it was only a few videos ago they were very upset that you got a really good deal on a good MacBook and said that you should have left it for someone who needed it more, there is no pleasing people especially online where everyone is ready to get extremely angry over something that doesn't require such an energy.

i actually was going though a hard drive on a pc i got out of a dumpster ~2 weeks ago. i was surprised that the user had no password or any personal data still on that windows 10 installation. the drive mostly had "anti virus" programs that made the pc hard to use

And a friend of mine was wondering why i put a pick axe through some old hard drives when i moved. They're IDE and i had used Sata for years but still.

Uhh when you find something in trash it no longer has owner so to be fair with you; you find it, you are the owner. Nothing illegal about it and honestly, good on you, the drive couldve ended up in the wrong hands. But now it was just testament that shows you gotta be careful with your data.

If you're a techie and have never gone though all the personal info on old HDs you got from the trash or secondhand shops, you're lying. It's scary what people will throw away. Secure and destroy your data people. Most people won't just be nosy and forget about it after the wipe.

That HDD find is a wanna be hacker's wet dream. I definitely would've sent the owner a gmail from his own account with tips on how to properly dispose of a HD. Not sure how every site handles saved logins, but since you were booted from the drive it is entirely possible some sites considered that a trusted login and sent no notifications. Very scary. This is exactly why I have a closet full of old wiped and mechanically destroyed HDs. Can't be too paranoid regarding your personal data.

louis rossman is a scam. I visited him when he was in NY, because I live in NY and it was the same issue but with a 2015 macbook pro back in the day. They told me my motherboard was damaged but it was a complete screen issue. I purchased a salvaged screen from ebay and replaced it myself. Louis is a donkey, he only shows what he wants on YT - but his practices are garbage… that’s why he moved all the way to texas to RUN.
