      I've had a 13 Mini for the last 14 months, but my old-man eyes are beginning to require a larger screen. Thanks for this review! Based purely on the camera quality, I think I'll be going for an S23.

    For me the 512GB storage is the tempting part over the 9. The lack of autofocus on the selfie is also a concern on the ultrawide where it is also omitted! They have changed the UW camera this year with a wider FOV, but some bizarre choices here. That said, I want to go back to a smaller phone so this looks like the way.

    Funny some of those features I have in my LG G8 that I'm still rocking since 2019. That's how good LG phones were. I wish LG comes back in the phone business instead of focusing on vacuum cleaners and fridges...their TVs are great and competition to Sony but we need LG phones again.

      I used to be a loyal LG phone owner as well. Since my 2nd ever smartphone the LG Optimus G up until the LG stylo 5. They have always been reliable and a good value to me. After LG stopped selling phones I tried a Motorola and it was defective within 3 months of ownership. After that I got a Certified Refurbished IPhone and it has been okay but these Asus phones have been intriguing.

    I think it's more exciting than something like the s23. Bigger battery, much a nicer design in my opinion. The cameras in the Zenfone 9 outperformed the s22 in MHKBD's blind test. A gimbal stabilization mode.
    And at least they've increased the software support to 4 years of security patches. I can live without Android 16 in 3 years.

    • @JimmySolution
      @JimmySolution ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I totally agree with you. Android updates are overrated but security patches are actually more important, and this one gets 4 years of them. I am using XZ Premium right now on android 9 and is running great!
      I pre-ordered Zenfone 10 as I think it's time for me to get something with more storage capacity as 64 GB is not enough for me. The modified jack even for higher output combined with sound technology from Dirac was the deal for me. I don't really care about cameras but I do care about performance and music. I looking forward receiving it!

    • @Jthall1990
      @Jthall1990 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi Tom - do you not have the normal Galaxy S23 to compare it to or something? Surely that is the most appropriate comparison. They are basically the same size! It's the only other flagship compact phone in the Android space (Pixel 7 doesn't count, it's significantly bigger)

    i prefer this size. quick questions: does it have slowmo? does it have touch shutter? does it have notification led or something? how can you know if you have new sms or missed call? how is the flash photo and video? and how is the brightness in sunlight? can you see something on the screen? i think it's a great phone design and specs and back material a little expensive though but that's me :)

    • @seanh1988
      @seanh1988 ปีที่แล้ว

      It has slowmo (Zenfone 9 does which I have). No it does not have an LED light, that's been dead in android for a few years now. It has an option in setting to light a portion of the screen when you get a notification as the screen is OLED.. Video, is extremely stable. Flash is good. The camera isn't as good as say a pixel or iphone but it is top 5 for sure.

    • @seanh1988

      The bezels are the perfect size, a bezeless phone sucks due to most phones having poor palm rejection.

      @@seanh1988 I hear similar comments about the Pixel Fold. Personally, I think because the S23 is only a tiny bit bigger and offers more screen. Like I wouldn't mind the slightly thicker bezels if they were uniform, but the sides are much thinner than the top and especially the bottom.

    16 GB Ram/ 512GB Internal storage and smaller and lighter than Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra? I'm ready. I've been thinking of buying the S23 base 8GB Ram/512GB but Zenfone 10 had better specs overall (if you're just casual with cameras which I am)
    I don't mind the 2 years android updates as long as their security patch would last for 4 years. (which I heard recently).

    • @michaelcorcoran8768
      @michaelcorcoran8768 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's 4 years of security patches. And the ZenFone 9 finished in third place in MHKBD's blind camera test with the sample size of 22 million votes. That's the only really scientific data we have and it outperformed the s22 and the iPhone 14. He finished third only behind the pixels. Not to mention it offers a gimbal stabilization mode. Obviously the s23 offers the telephoto but I think I would rather have the gimbal mode personally.
      But I wish people would stop saying 2 years of updates that's a little oversimplified. It's 2 years of OS updates 4 years of security patches. I don't really need Android 16 and 17 frankly.

    • @michaelcorcoran8768
      @michaelcorcoran8768 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@seanh1988yeah a lot of Samsung fans are conveniently ignoring the fact that it still gets 4 years of security patches. I don't know why they really care that much about getting Android 16 and 2026! Look at how the third major OS update just broke the Note 20 ultra or the s20 Plus.

    Great review and appreciate the 2160/60! 👌
    It's a tough one, these smaller form factors should definitely come back as I find my 23 ultra too big most the time, unless enjoying this review in crisp 2160 of course!
    It's a close one between the s23 and ZenFone 10. Personally I think I'd go Samsung this time for a couple reasons...
    Updates are better and longer and you could say proven.
    Camera is better
    It's got a bigger and better display while maintaining that sweet spot form factor.
    I can drive to the Croydon store or have the Samsung mobile repair van fix the phone relatively quickly.
    I do like the look of the ui and the choice Asus give you though for stock. Top marks for that!

    • @Shockload

      I mean it is indeed compact by modern standards but people seem to be overestimating how small it is, because of its thick bezels it's actually the same size as the 6.1" S23 and that thing has a far superior camera comparable to the iPhone, gets 4 years of OS updates and just overall a thinner and sleeker design with frosted glass back makes the phone feel more premium.

    ZenFone 10's biggest competitor is Samsung's S23, which is about the same size, weighs even less, has smaller bezels and a better camera setup including a 3x optical zoom. Asus gets some points for the stock Android experience and better battery life, but I think I'd go with the S23 instead.

    How do you miss comparing this phone to the Samsung S23? it is very comparable in size and spec and much more common than some of the examples used here.
    I am looking to replace an S22 Ultra and this phone having 512gb of storage, real dual sim and wireless charging make it an attractive option. The camera is not a big concern but the software seems like a huge advantage over what Samsung offers. As far as the two year upgrades that isn't a concern for most people and even if it were ASUS does not punish you for dropping on LineageOS like Samsung does.

    Hello, I have had this phone for 2 months and I can say that:
    1. the screen was filled with scratches,
    2. the back cover has become dull on the edges, it looks horrible, as if it were a fat cake, what a worst choice, trying to make the phone lighter, they chose this shitty plastic.
    3. the zenfone UI functions, which should make your life easier, are stupid, for example the 2 times tapping function on the back of the phone works when it feels like it, or the one on the volume button, or the one on the sensor button, the phone is not calibrated enough for that.
    4. when there are several active functions, or Wi-Fi is turned on, the battery discharges very quickly and even heats up.
    5. the phone feels in the hand during operation, you simply feel the radiation, the SAR value is at the upper limit, it is not recommended to use it too much near the ear.
    6. the frames of the cameras are uneven, I don't see what the point would be, anyway if you put the phone on the table and want to write or browse applications, the phone dances terribly, it cannot be used in this way, a special phone case is needed.
    7. the material from which the back cover is made retains odors.
    8. the phone tends to get hot, the programs are crowded and often more confusing.
    9. I had to strongly reduce the number of functions to save the battery, if I don't use it it lasts for two good days, but I have to charge it overnight so that it doesn't discharge the next day.
    10. still a Chinese shit in the end.
    I wanted it to be 10, but it's 11: the camera is under critical condition, until now I didn't think that there would be something like this on a flagship, incredible Asus, the worst software, I don't want to say more......
    my review is 100% true, I don't want to offend anyone
