A role I’ve never paid any attention to and now it gives me food for thought. Created a new tactic for my online save with my friends and I managed to win the league using your advice after struggling for a while in the league but in touching distance of top, particular the poacher role creating space for my RPM to do his thing and the arriving CM on attack, however it was a DLF-SS combo that won me the league on the last day, thank you!
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker it was almost perfect! The DLF dropped as the SS went beyond for a ball across the box to tap it in with a 1-0 win away to my friend to secure two in a row😎
IMO Beckham is leaning Wide Playmaker more than Wide Midfielder, modern WM would be Atletico's 4-4-2 a few years back where Simeone would sometimes play CM as the RM/LM
@@Brazio20 true, only in the game the wide playmaker has "cross less often" baked into it, which we know was a huge part of his game. But I agree in terms of his role in real life. In an experiment to mimic his role I had it set to wm on support and just ticked all the wide playmaker options and added "cross more often"...worked pretty well.
Love the WM, I recently switched to a defensive winger in my asymmetrical tactic, but still switch to WM whenever the guy get a yellow card, so that I can add the ease tackle instruction. Another unsung hero, maybe because FM always put the wrong number of stars on the role
The existence of this role just reenforces that should exist a wide attacking midfielder, and the "half-winger" as tuchel calls it, the winger that comes inside and plays like an attacking midfilder does in the half space or in the central space
@@luismao5153 it used to tuck more and now even if you use the go inside PI he stays wider, but even that, i dont always want an AP, sometimes i just want a player that plays like an AM on support or even attack

Such an underrated part of a role; and it means you don't have to worry about switching players in and out and having conflicting player instructions/player traits
@@godwintusabe883 the main characteristic of any playmakers is that the are ball magnet, means the teammate always focused to give them the ball during the possession. Not so much with David.

Wonderful use of "maleable"!! Perhaps controversially, I am a big fan of Dwells on Ball for players with good creative profiles (vision, composure, passing, decisions). Can really help draw the opposition in before picking them apart.
@@isaacmcmanus3666 Yes. Well...I mean it does essentially have the same negative effect, too. It's also only trainable on players in deeper positions. Obviously Dwells On Ball isn't trainable (although can be picked up through mentoring groups, I believe), but it does allow you to have an attacking player who slows things down and draws players to them.
I think it's the word "dwell" that I don't like haha. I'd prefer something more... cerebral. Like "ponders on ball" or "ruminates on ball"; I think that would change my opinion of the trait for sure 🤣
I have a player like that (DM) and I was about to try and remove this trait. I want to transport the ball efficiently to the offensive quartet. I try to come up with the right role for him. I try a roaming playmaker lately, to use his great physical fitness (running in particular) although he prefers a DLP role apparently. Any advice?
Now you’ve got a good library of these roles you can really see how they work together now. Doing each one in isolation it must be hard to keep that in mind but you do an excellent job of it. Awesome Guardians cap by the way! Hope that noisy cricket isn’t giving you too many problems
One thing that's nice about having that library, is that I can mention other roles more freely without feeling like I have to talk about what that role does. You know if I say, Carrilero, Raumedeuter, whatever, I like having a video already made that someone can refer to. And I've grown attached to the little guy in the wall.. who knows, maybe he makes an appearance in the next video???
great video as usual mate :) this "jack of all traits but master of none" is maybe the nr. 1 reason why in ever used an wide midfielder. with the winger, the defensive winger and the wide playmaker u already have plenty of options of what u want from a wingplayer. Especially not only his player role but also his skillset is very niche and hard to find. I can only imagine to retrain maye a regular winger to become more teamplay oriented instead of just bombing down the line all the time.
thanks!! I know you have no way of knowing this, but I promise I was going to use "jack of all trades master of none" for this video 😂😂 does a lot of things really well, but nothing expertly and usually it's a traditional midfielder I have to find and then toss if out on the wing, rather than finding someone dedicated to playing a WM
for those reasons, the wide midfielder on attack with custom instructions (cut inside, dribble more) works a lot better for me than a inverted winger. somehow the wide midfielder will contribute a lot more to all stages of play than then inverted winger on attack
I think it's the midfielder part coming out; I find the same too. They can be better defensively; like the difference between a Central Midfielder and a Mezzala
For some reason i always liked the 442 tactic and when i was younger i also liked the class 99 of man utd so now im trying to create a 442 tactic 'Ferguson style' Most rolls are pretty simple to fill in but what roll did Beckham play, not a real winger not an inside forward and in my opinion also not a typical playmaker so i guess that he was a wide winger on attack? (with a great foot😋)
the general consensus that I've seen is a Wide Midfielder on attack. Then you can customize him further with instructions to get him to play how you want (a benefit of using the WMF)
Good points re letting the player traits dictate the role as it's malleable. Do you prefer to use player instructions to mould them, or let them free ?
In my personal saves, I like to tell them to do it with personalized instructions. Kinda like I'm saying to him "hey you know that thing you like to do, do that more often"
I am a Chinese FM player and I really enjoy your videos. I've been eagerly waiting for your video introducing the DM role in midfield. Could you let me know when it will be released? Thank you!
Which one should I prefer shorter passing or direct passing when i have a great playmaker with great vision passing and technic in CDM position like Calhanoglu , Kimmich….
If you've got someone with good technicals I would say "shorter passing" would probably be better. Generally, shorter passing creates more of the passing style you saw in the highlight breakdown; so don't waste possession, let's move the ball with passing to the open player instead of hoofing it over there. Direct style is great if you want to sit back on the counter, or maybe have great wingers that you want to influence play more
I love the defensive winger!!! Hope to get to it soon. I used them in my "how to press" video and they are fantastic. I used them in a 3 ATB system in that one too
I am starting to get a fuller idea of the variety of options you can have in your tactic. Would it be possible to add a heat map for each role you make a video about?, it would give a better idea on where each role operates and where they could venture off to and what are their limits in the field
Am I the only one who waits for a video comparison between a Deep Lying Playmaker, a Regista and a Roaming Playmaker? However, I am pretty sure that since this role is the name of the channel, it is being saved for last.
my favorite striker role is the deep lying forward, so I'd have to go with the DLF/AF. But a they can switch as well and still be just as effective. So a DLF/P and a F9/AF
i've been using a WM recently because i play with atletico madrid and want to bring back the 442 (but i play with a downloaded tactics since i dont think i can create my own tactic) and i've noticed it's very hard to get wide midfielder, both newgens and existing. everytim i filtet by some essential attributes to find a wm i only get a few cm's which then i have to convert to wm
shout out to you bringing back the 442!!! Love that formation. And yea that's kinda been my experience as well. A player not necessarily made specifically for the WM, but usually a CM that I put out there since their attributes are somewhat similar
I can't remember, but I think the target forward or deep lying foraward had it as a good trait? So when they get the ball, they pause for a second a let the team get into more advanced positions. It's not a universally applicable trait for sure, but some roles do take advantage of it.
I've been having great success using Wide Midfielders on Attack in my lower league save for ages now, I think I prefer them to Wingers now, as you say they are very malleable. Love the video as usual but please don't post an image of the mighty Hammers looking like that again please! 😀
