I definitely love Loom- for all of the reasons you’ve highlighted in this clever video battle! The free Pro account for teachers is absolutely amazing!
Awesome review of both apps. Thanks. I'm going to try out both and see what works for me. I sure like the sound of loom being free for teachers. I am your newest subscriber.
Welcome to the channel! We are so happy you enjoyed the video. Check back in and let us know which one you like better after you try them both out! 😎🙌♥️
Mr. Cook's Corner I use another program, called screen-o-matic before and a co-worker mentioned Screencastify and I liked to ease and convenience of it. Loom has a lot of neat features too.
When we went to online I tried a few different ones and found Loom to be the easiest to use. I’ve really enjoyed it and it’s fit my needs. However I do like the screencastify has that mouse tool! That would be really helpful for my students!
Thanks for the great comparison! I am more used to screencastify and like its easy integration w/ Google classroom. However - it looks like I need to establish a presence on Loom. You can't beat Free for Life!
You would need to download the original video to your desktop and then use a video editor to cut and save different clips. iMovie or something standard on your computer should work just fine, or you can use more powerful software like Davinci Resolve (free but awesome).
Rob, for my TH-cam productions I use a combination of Davinci Resolve and OBS. They're both free, and they have the power needed for detailed editing, sound production, overlays, etc. For regular classroom lessons I would personally go with Loom. Actually, scratch that - I'd use OBS, but there's a learning curve there that most people don't or wouldn't go through to learn the system. This video comparison is mainly for easy to use, plug and play, upload quickly and share easily to your classroom tools.
More often than not it comes down to two things- your microphone setup and your computer setup. Our teachers struggle with bandwidth when using the district provided Chromebooks.
I use OBS to record my screen. There's a small learning curve, but nothing too major. It's also totally free. For editing/posting I use Davinci Resolve. Also free and awesome. Both programs allow me to do much more with editing and graphics than Loom or Screencastify. But if were up to me in a school setting with videos for kids I would definitely choose Loom.
Having to remember to flip your image (so its not a mirror image) in Loom is a con; Screencastify does it automatically. Also, how do you save your loom links?
Thanks for this great video. My students are on ipads, and I like to demo what their experience will look like when I make my videos, so Loom has been the winner for me. But, I have both installed, just in case. :)
This video was so helpful! I really like what I see about Loom, but I'm looking to post videos on TH-cam. I wonder if Loom has received any feedback on this and whether they will eventually add that as a feature? Perhaps I can export the file as an .mp4 and then upload that to TH-cam which might be a good work-around! Thank you again! This is all new territory for me, so having you break it down was so valuable for me.
We're SO glad you found value in our video! Yes, you can absolutely download your Loom videos and then re-upload them to TH-cam. It's one extra step, but if you prefer the Loom experience I wouldn't let that extra bit deter you from going with it!
I really like the way that you present this, Joel. It's very user-friendly, entertaining, and very informative. Thanks! I will say that as a technophobe who's trying, the vid goes a bit fast. I really like it, though. I subscribed. How do I find other vids you've done if I don't do social media? (Sorry, remember, just working on it. Taught for 44 years, but want to take significant steps in online tools.)
Thanks for the great feedback and encouragement! If you're watching a video, you just click on my name right underneath the video and it will take you to my channel. From there click on videos, and it'll list everything I've made. Alternatively, my website also has them all listed: mrcookscorner.com/online-content/ We're ALWAYS listening to feedback, so let us know what you'd like to see! -Gareth- (PS - who's Joel?) :)
Sorry - had been zooming with friend named Joel. Thanks, I'll go to your video list today, Gareth. I've presented a bunch of workshops, mostly at NCSS and IRA conferences, so I have a bit of perspective when I say that I wish I'd presented my in-person workshops had been as well done as yours are in the online world. Looking forward to your other vids, Gareth! Mark
Gah! I want them both. Of course, I am going to get a free Loom account, but I think I will cough up the $29 for the Screencastify, too, and play with them both to see which I like more. I wonder if there are times I would prefer one over the other, depending on the type of lesson I am teaching. (By the way, I am a new subscriber!)
It's definitely not an easy choice! I like the thought that if you can purchase Screencastify, then you'll have the best of both worlds! Welcome aboard, by the way! 😎🙌🥳🔥
We MIGHT have a new contender for the best screen recorder - Fluvid! Check out our review here: th-cam.com/video/EXNhJADVFDw/w-d-xo.html
Now I am going to have to check out Loom for sure. Thanks for the thorough review. Happy birthday!
We're trying to get better at this thing one video at a time! Appreciate the cup filler! 💯🙌
Excellent overview! Just the info I was looking and confirms that I should start with Loom.
We're so glad you liked the content! Let us know what else you'd like to see! 😎💯💥

Glad you enjoyed it! We ❤ Loom!
Absolutely wonderful idea! Great work on your channel!!
Thank you!
With screencastify you also can resize the webcam. Just click on the corner and expand ;)
Great video!
Great find! Thanks for sharing and we appreciate the love! 😎🙌♥️

Which one is YOUR favorite? Do you have a different program all together? Post a comment and let us know - don't forget to tell us WHY!
Mr. Cook's Corner I use another program, called screen-o-matic before and a co-worker mentioned Screencastify and I liked to ease and convenience of it. Loom has a lot of neat features too.
Screen-o-matic is another pretty solid tool!
what is you are a non-teacher and you have to choose to pay for either
what is your take? Mr Cook?
@@OnchainTS I would use Loom.
Thanks for such a detailed review. I'm happy to be able to present more than one option to our teachers next week.
You are so very welcome! Let us know if there are other topics you'd like to see covered!
Hi there, could anyone on here help me identify what software is used by Teacher Aya Online Tutor to make her TH-cam videos? Thank you in advance!
When we went to online I tried a few different ones and found Loom to be the easiest to use. I’ve really enjoyed it and it’s fit my needs. However I do like the screencastify has that mouse tool! That would be really helpful for my students!
They're both such good extensions! There's nothing wrong with having both and busting out the Screencastify annotation tools when you need them!
I am going Loomy.
Thanks for the great comparison! I am more used to screencastify and like its easy integration w/ Google classroom. However - it looks like I need to establish a presence on Loom. You can't beat Free for Life!
Agreed! One day I'll show you OBS and then we can really start to blow minds! 🤯
This guy is soooo helpful!
Super useful, G. Very well executed video.
Would you share what camera, mic, and video editing software you use?
Sorry for the delayed reply, life's been a little bit busy. I use a meteor mic, a Canon m50, and DaVinci Resolve.
Can you tell me how to split a video into a few clips and save them separately? TIA
You would need to download the original video to your desktop and then use a video editor to cut and save different clips. iMovie or something standard on your computer should work just fine, or you can use more powerful software like Davinci Resolve (free but awesome).
What did you use to make this video? Was it either of the two recommendations?

You're so welcome! Glad it was helpful! 😎❤🙌
Screencastify is my go to.
Still a good choice! What is it about the program that makes it you go to? Was it the first app you came across and you're just familiar with it?
Thanks for the info - this helps!
Absolutely! We're so happy you found value from this video!
I feel like sometimes when I use loom the audio was weird.
More often than not it comes down to two things- your microphone setup and your computer setup. Our teachers struggle with bandwidth when using the district provided Chromebooks.
@@BradleyLenartmotivation Thank you for your thoughtful and well-researched opinion.
I love loom. I wish I could upload directly to google drive or to google classroom though.
It would be the perennial icing on the cake!
What an informative video! Thank you so much! I am curious, did you use Screencastify or Loom to make this?

Wow this is an awesome video! I enjoyed it very much and it was very helpful to choose the right software for me.

We're so glad you liked it! Yes, having that iPad option for students really makes Loom the better option, but there's no harm in having both!
