Interesting to see how this technique can 'tame' such a beast! :) ............. I have just tried this as described above (using the 'Edgy Amber' LUT) and it works so wonderfully well. It's not rocket science though, I mean, pretty obvious. I only found this video because I'd googled something else about LUT's It's hardly worth watching the ads for.

I've ben separating adjustments like that though not for LUT.
Separate layer adjustments for foreground and sky values including gradient masking.
