    I have good news and bad news.
    Good news is that people seem to love the video which is great because I loved making it!
    Bad news is that this will most likely be the last Outer Wilds video I make. I would love to make more but honestly I’m not sure what else I could do. I did this video which covers basically the whole story, and the iceberg which covers almost everything outside of the story. And while that is sad news I’m super proud of both these videos and I hope you will continue to stick with me as I make videos similar to this one for other games you love. ::)

      Obviously this was a deliberate choice for gameplay but maybe they just don’t process information as fast as we do. Maybe for them that frame rate is normal.

    • @victor-ling
      @victor-ling 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +36

      @@overusedbruh To be pedantic ... if that frame rate is normal to them then wouldn't it make sense for their simulation to run at that frame rate. Not dissimilar to how we target our VR headset frame rates to what can trick our brains?

    • @Harmoniou-s
      @Harmoniou-s 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +59

      @@victor-lingwe put VR at the fastest possible framerate, not at what our brains can be tricked on.
      The human brain "runs" at over 2000 fps, most VR headsets run at 90 fps.
      Higher framerates are always better.

    • @victor-ling
      @victor-ling 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      @@Harmoniou-s If I concede that point, then my original statement still stands. See this isn't a conversation about what the best VR experience for humans is. This is a conversation about a completely made up alien race in a video game's technology progression... So if "more framerate is always better" then why didn't they develop full motion video?

    Remember next time you think your life amounts to nothing. You don't know the consequences of this "nothing" and how significant you were to this universe in the end.
    I lost my mother recently shortly after completing Outer Wilds. This game prepared me for times of grieving, helped me to make to know how to say farewell to a loved one even if I'd give everything to have those damned twenty-two minutes to go back and keep her alive. I hope Outer Wilds helped many other people to deal with loss and existential dread.
    Thank you for the work you've done and to all of you fellow travelers, take time to roast a marshmallow. The night sky is beautiful, company is good and who knows ? Maybe this moment could be the most important of your life, even if it lasts only twenty-two minutes.

    My theory is that the signal you hear from the eye of the universe is the music that the previous universe's people played similar to how the hearthians (and guests) play outer wilds ventures around the campfire at the end of the game. That would also imply that in the next universe, people would hear the sound of outer wilds ventures coming from the eye

      I think it’s because Outer Wilds puts into perspective, better than any other way I’ve ever seen or heard it communicated, the insignificance of any one being within the scope of the universe as a whole.
      And I think if everybody understood that, and treated others in accordance with it, we’d all be better, and better off, human beings.
      Or at least that’s why I cry whenever the experience of OW hits me like it can.

    • @rickygiove
      @rickygiove 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@nyehentertainment in a way, you are correct. But at the same time, i feel exactly the opposite. I think OW shows you how fundamental was every single bit of thought, word, action that everyone did. It's a choral effort towards the goal, made by 3 different species through hundreds of thousands of years, and every little decision could have led to a different outcome, maybe the end of it all.
      One thing that always strikes me - because it's the opposite of what humans would do - is that the nomai discovered a new and sensational material, and took exactly what they needed and not a bit more, to allow future species (us) to thrive. The human race would have consumed it all and destroyed the planet, I'm pretty sure

    • @nyehentertainment
      @nyehentertainment 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    What I also like about the owlks is that, at the ending, given you free the prisoner, he stands in the dark, away from the campfire. He shows guilt over his species closing off the signal of the eye. Even after all the years that he is imprisoned by his own kind, he still takes blame of what they've done. It really shows how emotional the owlks can be.

    Knowing in the end now that the "start" of the game is actually the 9millionth iteration of your character "starting" their journey just makes it even more amazing that this game was made the way it was. My only question about it, other than to make a perceived notion that you are on a different timeline, why wouldn't the probe be sent to the same direction every single time after you are communicated and linked with the statue?

    • @overusedbruh

      @overusedbruh  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +18

      @Dkgow You only get linked the first loop you play in because canonically that’s the loop the probe finds the Eye. So the loops before you did pass the statue but never linked with it because the probe didn’t find the Eye. I think that answers your question but i’m not sure.

    • @BanzaiHeil
      @BanzaiHeil 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@DkgowI think the answer to the question you are asking lies in some Nomai text about the statue on the Orbital Cannon remaining linked to the Ash Twin Project so that the data is retained on where the cannon has fired/searched for the Eye unsuccessfully in previous loops, thus the next loop the cannon fires in a new random direction every time.

    • @Bubbly_Dragon
      @Bubbly_Dragon 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Duede, this is so fucking sick!
    To think how long it must have taken to write this script, and to serialize the branching narrative, arranging sections deliberatly to create tension, rising and falling action within your script!
    It's fucking sick!
    The amount of effort you put into this is crazy!
    I am also suprised how almost every little detail of thr nomais history got covered -
    Arringing them into a sensible order must have been a lot of work
    Especially the ash twin projects convergent nature - how many divisions and working groups came together, and how everything has to click into place for the nomais insane plan to work
    These are details that you built out if the existing narrative that i found very satisfying to imagine.
    You told the story like a tangible engineering project
    And at the end i found that i learned new things about the nature of the time loops-
    How exactly the statue came to be activated and how many times we died in the alternate simulated loop realities with no memories of it.
    I hope our comments can justify the amount of effort in your mind!
    And don't stress about making more OW content as yous ay in your pinned comment
    You have proven that you can retell stories in long form and write compellingly -so when youre in the right place again and drop another banger, it has a good chance of finding people ::)

    Man im not even finished with the video but this is amazing. I loved your iceberg video but this is so much more, equivalent to what mossbag's Hollow Knight lore video is.
    Having voice acting during the jump to Dark Bramble broke me, such a good video

    I really love how this video goes through the whole story chronologically. Pretty much every other Outer Wilds video I’ve seen has the narrator explain their personal experience, and they describe the way the story unfolded for them specifically. It’s nice, but this video here does it without a narrator’s perspective. It’s just THE story which is really good. And quite well made too. I like the music synchronization!

    this video made me appreciate the story of the game even more than i did before. you really did some great storytelling of your own, hitting the emotional beats very well so that i'm now quite weepy 😅. i can't wait to come back to it once i've played echoes of the eye (thank you for making it easily skippable)

    The reason timber hearth was protected from ghost matter is because when there is water present, ghost matter doesnt work the same as other does in the air. Hearthians descended from tadpole like creatures that the nomai discovered. This also means you can walk through ghost matter if it is submerged underwater.

    This is incredible. I hope this picks up as much attention as the famous Hollow Knight lore video by mossbag, because both stories are definitely worth sharing, and any game with a story this good needs a video that explains it in my opinion, which this video absolutely qualifies for.

    great video, well made. only some parts of the lore you got wrong, the first time the statue activates is when the eye was finally found, which is why it activated, making You aware. the probe launcher was going for millions of loops before the game started. Also, timber hearth was not exempt from the ghost matter, the hearthians only survived because they had not yet evolved out of the water, which protects all organisms from the ghost matter

    Theory: Prisoner was the (or if not, one of the) official owlk artists, and when the prisoner went to the eye signal to watch it to paint it/put it in a slide reel, he saw the full vision which was the rebirth of the universe (which he painted at 17:08 )(excuse the rough wording im not stellar at making theories but when theres a painting called “Prisoners Prophecy” its gotta mean something)

    I was just thinking about Outer Wilds last night when I had a repressed memory: I was a little kid who was just starting to learn about space and I tried building a homemade spaceship out of junk at my grandparents house (of course it didn’t work and I remember at that time being very sad about it).
    Now, I’ve played and beat Outer Wilds and realized that (at least in my opinion) one of the reasons why Outer Wilds is so great is that it recreates that same wish to explore that I had as a little kid, that motivated my biggest hyperfixation that is astronomy, and what motivated the Hearthians in the game.
    If you are one of those people who likes reading comments before watching the video, as the person who did an amazing job and posted this said, please go play Outer Wilds yourself. You won’t regret it

    As an aspiring movie director and a big fan of many video games. I always wanted to make movie adaptations of them (like actually good ones) for games like Celeste.
    And so I want to make an outer wilds movie as tribute to the beauty it gave me. But then I fall into a dilemma, do I make a movie of this game out of my love for it and to spreed it’s popularity, but in the process Sacrifice the experience that made it so special? If only there was a way to make a movie that adds to this game without spoiling it.
