You brainwashed me. I literally hopped on Facebook marketplace 1 minute into this video and now I'm getting an MPC One + tomorrow... Hahahaa. Definitely beats Reverbs fees.
Something being slept on about the new Roland machines is the ability to run power, midi and audio through 1 USB cable. You can stem out all channels on the tr8s/6s. The sh4d is a powerful 4 part synth 1 part drum machine and can also utilize 1 usb cable for everything.
I got my mc 101 on mtl marketplace for 400$ and i think it's about the best value i got for a piece of gear. I get that the workflow is not to everyone's taste, but man it's a capable machine! Just as a sound module it's a bang for the buck, but it has slowly become my go-to for dawkess composition. Sampler-wise, i'm exploring the sp workflow, with an og sp404 i got for 200$, and i'm always finding new ways to use it, even with the bands i play with. Both are battery operated and have a pretty long battery life, even with rechargable ones. I don't usually like to plug things together but i'm thinking about using both together for dawless sets, we'll see how it goes Great job on your vids man!
Maybe I’ve just been lucky, but I’ve gotten some very square deals at reverb and the times I’ve needed to return things It has gone very smoothly so reverb is definitely worth keeping on your radar in my opinion.

But yes, wanted to say Reverb is great, customer service is the best in the business, best selection of gear, and they do NOT add buyer fees; don't know where Liam gets that nonsense from (OTOH Mercari - which is infested with scam sellers - does).
@@LiamKillen ah, sure, depending what state you're in, but that's not a Reverb fee. If you buy from GC used, eBay, or even FB marketplace if the item is shipped, you will be charged that.

I will never get rid of my TR-8. I sequence it externally for downtempo music, mixing and matching sounds from different kits. The 606 and 707 expansions are 100% worth having.
The Elektron cycles used is a fair deal with many features for the money but you have to put time with tutorials. It’s also a small form factor. I like the OG Novation circuit, Roland system 1 plug out, Behringer TD 3 MO, Roland SH-32 and for drums I like the old Roland DR-880.
A Push 2 goes for 300,- where I live. Not only is that cheaper than your APC-40 MKII, it also doesn't really get better than this when in comes to Ableton integration. Also, where I live the top of the bill MPC X goes for as low as 800,-. Which insane for what is basically the most complete standalone music production studio on the market.
Push 2 is great and maybe you’re right ! But based on performers I’ve spoken to even the three seems a bit clunky to them - it’s all subjective though in the end

Reverb only charges selling fees to the seller, not the buyer. Sales tax is gathered from the buyer and remitted to the state by Reverb on behalf of the seller, but there is no additional “fee” charged to the buyer.
@@LiamKillen Sorry if this is a double post -- I think my original reply may have gotten taken down since I put a link in it. You are actually breaking the state's tax laws by not remitting sales tax on that transaction. I believe the reason Facebook, Craigslist, etc. don't have the same requirement is because they don't process payments. Reverb has some decent articles explaining why sales tax is being collected. I do understand your point that it does cost you more buying on Reverb. I just don't think its fair to say that they are charging both the buyer and seller a fee for a transaction, when they aren't. (I mean, I guess they could be, but they will be shut down as soon as the state government realizes it.)
Right but wrong. Reverb charges seller fees, and sellers mark up their Reverb listings to account for it. This is easy to see by checking anything listed by a given seller both on and off of Reverb. As a result, Reverb absolutely charges buyer fees, just not directly.
@@jg_ultra Sure, some sellers may do that, but by no means all of them do (source: me). Whether or not a seller chooses to pass on their fee to the potential buyer is 100% on that seller. I think for controlling Ableton you could go with the NEW MOVE, and a Faderdox PC12 - you have a versitile setup, and not just a laptop midi controller, the other option would be 2 x A&H Xone K2s (or 3 ... or 5)
Yeah pc-12 is also great for bigger set ups and even Ableton. I’d still argue that for an all in one unit the apc 40 is really just perfect for Ableton
I make the distinction between remote for ableton and good midi controller. good remote: push 3; move (maybe); launchkey mk4; apc 64, sl mk3. good midi controllers: launchcontrol xl; intech studio controllers; faderfox controllers. not the same usage. You want the first kind for your composition/sketching session, the second one for your performances. (also knobs for performances; encoders for remote)

lol I’ve gotten a number of great deals from reverb. What I do is just not buy the stuff that isn’t a deal. Got my OG digitone for $400 4 years before digitone mk2 was released from reverb. About the same for my Deepmind 12.
The anger of the polyend play + release was because they cut the price of the original model. This meant any units recently purchased got devalued significantly overnight. You could send your old model in for a paid upgrade which I thought was pretty cool, but people were really mad.
@@LiamKillen I get that, but these boxes of this format (Edge, Crave, Grind), have an extra aggressive and raw sound that is exactly what I want. Even if you listen to them next to their Moog equivalents, they sound so much better, to me. So, I had to say F it and buy them. Already had the Edge.
@@user82938 I mean yes it has accent and slide but the 303 is unique in the way they affect the sound and how they interact. I own three 303 clones and a Crave.
the launch control is a fantastic performance controller. not a great remote. I also think if you need a remote controller by today's standard you don't want faders (non-motorized at least); because that's useless as they lose their position; you want encoders; and you want at least a small screen; preferably a strip along your encoders. so the apc-40 is not super useful in this regard. My hot take is; besides; the push 2/3; or maybe the apc64, the best controller for ableton is the new launchkey control mk4 (preferably the smallest since the keyboard is not the object here). add a small launchpad if you want more pads. the new move is also a contender but too expensive as just a controller. there's also the sl mk3 but it's inside a big keyboard. we're definitely missing a good ableton controller with deep integration; in a small package and without a keyboard.
you can get the APC64 for $300 new now, too. I like the pads on it a LOT. Currently there's a weird bug in the most-recent firmware that when you power it on, Note/Chord is set to Octave +8. You can also use the APC64 as it is, and set up the Custom Mode as its own controller using... I think it's MIDI 2 but might be 3, I forget. Akai hasn't done many updates since releasing it nearly a year ago.
@@Emily_M81 Yeah I got the APC644 off of ebay for 200. I am new to ableton I figured if i were to make the jump from fl studio that i would need some type of controller to do it but i have actually found a bit of utility in its stand alone mode and actually have barely event been using it with ableton. however the price drop is a good thing I dont think anyone would have been happy with it at 400. 300 makes much more sense and i think even if your not big on Ableton like me its worth it at 200 maybe 250 if your looking for something new. as a stand alone its fun burt i have laundry list of issues that i plan on sending to Akai but i got organize them all

I never use 16 lol
“Gearsphere” ❤
😊
You cant beat the deal on digitakts right now. I got one 3 weeks ago for like 500.
Insane deal
😮
Just bought a new Behringer Crave for $169. At that price, I couldn't stop myself. Seems great for acid.
Behringer’s got great deals but they also suck hard as a company imo
No judgement on people who buy their products
@@LiamKillen I get that, but these boxes of this format (Edge, Crave, Grind), have an extra aggressive and raw sound that is exactly what I want. Even if you listen to them next to their Moog equivalents, they sound so much better, to me. So, I had to say F it and buy them. Already had the Edge.
Eh it can do the accent-slide needed for acid
@@ZombieLincoln666 Yeah, it can do that.
Thx for your take on this!
you can get the APC64 for $300 new now, too.
I am new to ableton I figured if i were to make the jump from fl studio that i would need some type of controller to do it but i have actually found a bit of utility in its stand alone mode and actually have barely event been using it with ableton. however the price drop is a good thing I dont think anyone would have been happy with it at 400. 300 makes much more sense and i think even if your not big on Ableton like me its worth it at 200 maybe 250 if your looking for something new. as a stand alone its fun burt i have laundry list of issues that i plan on sending to Akai but i got organize them all
@@Emily_M81 I like the idea of this controller but it's simply too big for my needs
David Guetta, Live music 🤣
Yeah he’s a DJ but he does a thing with the Microfreak which def can be considered live music
1 bar is definitely good enough for techno 😂
😏
Anyone have any midi controller recommendations for Logic Pro X?
ANythign will do - if you're using Logic Pro in a live sertting I suggest to bail on that immediately.
Synth4Sale subreddit is awesome
Oh ! Thanks for mentioning it here! Will def be on my radar from now on 👀
Great recommendation! I recently picked up an OG Digitakt for $425 usd shipped. There’s a lot of good deals and sellers willing to trade as well
Agreed! Been buying and selling there for years!
An 150 $ SY77 beats them all.
