Welcome to this Blackbird Guitar Tutorial by The Beatles!
This is one of the all time greatest fingerpicking songs ever written and was a defining song in my fingerpicking skill development when I was learning guitar. In this tutorial I'll show you ALL the guitar parts as well as the fingerpicking method Paul McCartney uses when he plays this live - it's a little more complex then typical fingerpicking so I'd suggest beginners start with the method I teach in the first half of the video.

Blackbird isn’t totally fingerpicked. Paul McCartney picks with his thumb and index finger followed by little strums with index finger. Take a listen. It’s obvious

Yes!! It took me two days too!! It was always my dream to learn how to play blackbird, it's one of my favorite songs ever, but I never even thought about trying for so long cause I was afraid it would be too difficult and I would feel stupid hahaha but then I thought oh what the hell and to my surprise I LEARNED IT!!! I ACTUALLY LEARNED IT!!! Sorry for the enthusiasm I just can't believe it hahahah I'm beyond happy, I love this channel ❤️🥹
I learned this when I was 10 years old or so. And is still the only song I know how to play start to finish well lol. Looks hard but it’s actually pretty easy!

My goal is to play this song start to finish by the end of the week
I started guitar when I was 12 and played for a year I stopped for around 2 years and this is the first song that I am going to try in 2 years.
I am going to play around 2-3 hours each day as I am super busy with school
I have been playing guitar for 35yrs now and have looked at lots of on-line tutors, including Karl, Justin and Marty but this guy is the best I've seen for intermediates. I have been able to play this tune for while but the way the tab is presented is so easy to pick up and understand. Great bloke and great channel. I will be spending more time here. T.

Another song I remember learning back in my teens... alway gravitated to the harder songs for some reason and totally remember how hard this was to originally learn. Learning songs totally changed with the internet. USENET, tab sites, TH-cam and YOU have totally changed learning guitar. I can’t imagine how good a player I might have been if I had access to great resources like this back in the 70’s! Thank you for all you do for your subscribers!

I’ve been playing about 5 years and typically avoid tab and finger-style. Your format and approach was inspirational I’ve the verse and fill down already, tomorrow I’ll learn the chorus. Oh my gosh, a tutorial that looks closer to the live version thank you so much dude. I would learn it completely from ear and by watching the live version, but I'm new to guitar, so this makes things so much easier. I'm used to being able to just learn by ear with other instruments, but starting fresh with a new instruments definitely complicates the process.

Of all the you tube videos I've watched on learning how to play the song this one is my favorite. It is pretty much how my guitar teacher has shown me how to play the except for a slight tiny difference on the picking pattern.. where instead of strings 3 and 2 at the end of the pattern he does 2 and 3.

I found this in the first few weeks I started learning guitar. I made it a “goal song”. It been about 2 years and I can play it fairly easily now thanks to your clear instructions. It got easier the more I played it. I’m not sure I can do the McCartney picking cleanly though. It’s tricky! And I still can’t sing it while playing. My brain says “one thing at a time!”

Even though I’ve been trying to play this for about 30 years your tutorial has made it really easy for me because I’m a finger picker and I can’t quite get my head around the brush strokes that McCartney does

Very nice tutorial, especially the paul McCartney picking style! I've learned this song a few years ago and due to my teacher got in the habit of playing the G string with the thumb as well, works brilliantly imo. Definitely going to try your well explained McCartney method :)
