It's actually about the sixties US civil rights movement, inspired by black schoolgirls he saw on TV trying to get into school at Little Rock. In sixties Liverpool a "bird" was a girl but I don't suppose he'd ever admit nowadays to anything so obviously un-PC!
I was lucky to have come of age in the 60's when the Beatles first became famous. I remember my mother bringing me home the first Beatle's album! Super Sir Paul!! We arewaiting for You in Finland, for You thanks for greatest momemts! We saw You here In Helsinki Finland 2011!! Fan from Finland! Be blessed Sir Paul!!!
I think most people don't realize the song is about the struggle for civil rights. It reflects the struggle of Black folks to gain equality: "take broken wings and learn to fly," and "take these sunken eyes and learn to see," but "you were only waiting for this moment to be free."
this video taught me how to play this song! I like how it zoomed in on his hands a lot, it helped me pick it up. if he ever watched TH-cam videos of himself, particularly this one, he should know he inspired another lefty to start playing the guitar. it's such a beautiful song that I had to learn it. pulled a hendrix on my mom's old guitar and decided to give it a whirl
hi, sorry to bother but i recently posted a guitar cover of "blackbird" by "the beatles" on my youtube channel and i'd love if someone would check it out. thank you! 🥺💜
He has inspired me to get my guitar out too. I'll never play before huge audiences like he does. . . But, if you watch his interviews, he consistently says that he would still play - even if no one came to his concerts anymore. He just LOVES music. That's a great motive, I gotta admit. That's a really pure motive, actually. It inspired me, anyway.
I have been learning this song recently at age 67 as part of a 'bucket list'. As a life long devotee of the so-called "popular song", I don't think I can think of a more inspired Beatles' song .... so simple a thought ... and yet so profound and poetic (if Wordsworth could sing, he might have come up with such an idea!). Above all - a rarity in pop music - a song that's not "all about me" ... who knew?
Paul is so amazing! I love how him and my 5 year old son played this song together backstage at candlestick on August 14th 2014! An amazing incredible day I will cherish a lifetime, as well my son and my mother.

The Beatles... 4 young men, 1 had timing unsurpassed, 1 had a great guitar playing coming into his own right towards the last couple of years. 1 was a genius and could make the guitar hum and buzz writing many classics. 1 was a god playing many instruments, writing many classics and still going today. Together they were a force of nature. Okay McCartmey did some duds outside of the Beatles but boy was he talented and when he goes the world should weep

Eamon Toner the claps are not wrong, it's called being "off beat" it's actually used a lot in music and it actually helps some guitarists to focus if the audience is clapping in off beat
Do you know what off beat is? because it is certainly being used A LOT in music also in this songs, and the claps are in the off beat of the notes so i dont know hat you are talking about
I’ve been lucky enough to see Paul sing this song twice. One time he was on a rising platform out in front of the main stage. It was amazing to see him rising up while singing this song. 🎶 Paul was 27 years old when he wrote Blackbird. Which was a social commentary of the 60’s civil rights movement ❤️

What a beautifully simple song performed impeccably. Sends shivers down my spine!
Super Sir Paul!! We arewaiting for You in Finland, for You thanks for greatest momemts! We saw You here In Helsinki Finland 2011!! Fan from Finland! Be blessed Sir Paul!!!
The man is a genius. I had the good fortune to see him live, and he played this song. Pure magic.
Only proof you need to understand that he is the best songwriter of the last 100 years.
The 2nd best, just behind Paul Weller
awesome brother Paul.. thou art beautiful and I love thee.. thanks for sharing
in my life.. the moment has arrived...
wishing you Peace and Prosperity ad Infinitum
from New Mexico.. land of magic light
That moment when he began the song and everyone just freaked out. TIMELESS
I'm guessing that happens on EVERY song he plays live to be honest.
I think most people don't realize the song is about the struggle for civil rights. It reflects the struggle of Black folks to gain equality: "take broken wings and learn to fly," and "take these sunken eyes and learn to see," but "you were only waiting for this moment to be free."
And the struggle continues. Sadly, even more in earnest now and the stakes couldn’t be higher.
the greatest musician/song writer of all time...bar none!
Paul is greatest singer / songwriter of ALL TIME ......
Wow...still sound so good after all these years!!! Love it!!!
Master of masters music song so fantastic...can't and not able to find words...so much ...in this song...thank you...♥️
A towering gifted artist of our time.
I'm so glad Paul's still alive to carry on the wonderful legacy of The Beatles
And what about Ringo????
@@stickypoopoo8982 bruh i swear everyone forgets Ringo lol
@@thebodyshop-satsumaenergis3268 No! No one forgets Ringo!! Never!
@@macybillington7428 he ain't alive bruh
Ive always played it a little different on stage but the meaning is still there
Thanks Paul see you again soon ❤
Just beautiful tone, both in the guitar and his voice. One of his all time best, and it's fun to play, too.
this video taught me how to play this song!
Brilliant, The beatles music has been with me since 1980. Thanks Paul, John, George and Ringo 🎸
Above all - a rarity in pop music - a song that's not "all about me" ... who knew?
Now that’s a legend doing what a legend does best. Just absolutely beautiful.
How could such simple words bring such a profound emotion?
Paul McCartney is a special human being. God bless him.
Oh! Paul ,hacía tiempo que no te escuchaba…..pero siempre regreso, sos lo más!
I'm so glad youtube exist for me to discover Magnificent Songs.
Voice is still great and a super performer ignoring an audience who cannot seem to keep time with the music. Love the song.
Paul is so amazing! I love how him and my 5 year old son played this song together backstage at candlestick on August 14th 2014! An amazing incredible day I will cherish a lifetime, as well my son and my mother.
"Don't cry because they died,
Smile because they were born"

it would be the most precious moment when people attended this concert, especially when Paul sing this song
paul McCarthney is nothing short of a legend! this is perhaps one o his best songs.
Amazing performance. Paul is the best!
Never tired of this song...yet, it's time to move on. Thank you Sir Paul McCartney for singing & writing this song which touched my life when i needed insight. Thank you, HCC
I miss when music truly had a story to tell thanks Paul for this timeless poetry.
This man is a treasure
Thank you for your gift you shared and was blessed to share with the world. God bless you always! I had this song performed in honor of my beloved sister Rochelle who transcended in 2020.
What an amazing song. This is so good! This song has really aged well
The Beatles...
Questa canzone è un capolavoro immortale !!! Sono cresciuto a pane e Beatles e questa canzone era la mia ninna nanna !!! Grazie John !!!
His voice is so musical in this song! So many subtle nuances. It's like two instruments in tandem.
this song melts all my worries away but makes me wanna cry at the same time
Bless you Sir Paul...my daughters song. From a father to his child.

I'm finally getting into the Beatles now, and I'm just going through their songs past midnight and enjoying what I've been missing out on. This truly was a beautiful performance. Good vibes all around
The Beatles were thee best band ever. It's cool that you are getting into the Beatles now!
Hi fellow Beatle lovers, I saw Sir James Paul Mccartney last night May 13th at SoFi stadium. It was a dream come true for me. He gave a Excellent performance so much great music! I sang my heart out and had so much fun. When he sang Black bird it brought tears to my eyes it touched my heart so beautiful. I Love Paul he may be going on 80 but believe me that awesome Man can Still Rock. Love you yeah yeah yeah✌❤🎶❤🎶❤🎶❤🇬🇧
All my life this song has touched me. I tear up for what was and what could've been, every single time. An especially pure, perfect version. Thank you kindly for sharing it with us !
What a beautiful song!!!
My heart loves love this. The tune I would always tune my twelve to…
I heard this song in music class and I'm in love with it.i keep playing it over and over again.great song
Beautiful. This the first time I heard it by its writer. I originally heard the reggae version of this song. Paul is amazing.
The genius musician : Sir Paul Mccartney, his beautiful music will always be forever in my heart ❤️
I love you Paul! Long live! 🙏
its scary how relevant this song is like 50 YEARS LATER!!!!!!
how so?
At 1.46 he actually goes for a false finish just to get the out of time clapping to stop! Pure live Genius ✌
Eamon Toner this false finish is on the album version as well.
Eamon Toner the claps are not wrong, it's called being "off beat" it's actually used a lot in music and it actually helps some guitarists to focus if the audience is clapping in off beat
Do you know what off beat is? because it is certainly being used A LOT in music also in this songs, and the claps are in the off beat of the notes so i dont know hat you are talking about
Aren't the claps slightly late to be offbeat claps?
Noam Lotan ...
Every time another confirmation of this man's extraordinary gift.
We are indeed lucky.
This song is my favorite song on the White Album as well as Dear Prudence.
It is November 18, 2019, and I just heard this for the first time, on my local rock station, in Anderson, SC. Where has this gem been all my 55 years?! Thought for sure I had heard ALL the Paul McCartney songs there were! Nice to know that I can still hear something new, new to me, anyhow!
It’s so sad to see him up there without John :(
