Thanks for the So Hyang reax - it's fun for her fans to see a coach react to that crazy high mix for the first time. We all reacted to her pyrotechnics the same way initially, but what made most of us long term fans is the way her spirituality and innate kindness are at the core of every performance. The typical folk song arrangement is limited to under 2 octaves, so just about all South Koreans sing it. If you go to the longer KBS video for this performance, you can see kids singing it in a more traditional manner. However, the arrangement sung by Sohyang is epic and few singers in the world can do it well.
Great analysis! As for the songs to listen to, people have got misty-eyed over her rendition of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and "Everyone". Personally, I love her performance of "Hug Me" at the DMC Festival 2018 and all of her performances in Kings of the Masked Singer. Some would also recommend "Where Are You" since she hit a B in that song.

One of my favorite is her rendition of Paul Simon's classic 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' which completely blew me away and left me speechless. 'You Raised Me Up' is another epic performance. Her few vocal lessons she got were from Seth Riggs, who was Michael Jacksons coach. She did not start singing on stage until she was 19. She is now 42 and her voice is still holding. Her Lean on Me expresses her gospel roots and technical ability. Mona Lisa (the best vid is on Vimeo) is a rock song and is just fun. Her Everyone is amazing and there's not dry eye in the house. One of my favorites is Dear Love (again use Vimeo), another song that tears at your heart. Dear Love and Mona Lisa are on King of Masked Singers and she wears a silly mask. That almost makes it better. The emotion and charisma still comes through. With all these, keep stopping, rewinding, and changing up the vid. These Korean TV shows are strict on copyright. I think King of Masked Singer might be a little easier but not sure.

ArirangAlone is one of my most favourite songs ever the first time I heard ArirangAlone I nearly cried because it was the most beautiful and heartfelt song that I have ever heard and it touched me so much. I really highly recommend you review the song We Believe by Sohyang it is one of the most sad and emotional songs that I have ever heard of but it is one of her most underrated songs . I love Sohyang so much she is such a beautiful person both on the outside and inside she is not only my most favourite female singer but she is also such an inspirational person to me because she has been through cancer and she has survived it

I am not an any part of vocalist at all, but practicing to be like professional a lot. And every time I hear So-Hyang I notice that level isn't where I can go. Like that holding up the breath ability, bringing her voice to that high note without effort and coming back to low without throat hurt, the sense of her own rhythm and pitch control. I love her singing for my life! I think I am even lucky to be able to understand her singing in her own language! Because not only her singing technique is impressive, how some of her songs give comfort is amazing. Her performance of singing "Hug me" and "home" is the one you gotta hear if you feel exhausted with your life.

Thanks for the So Hyang reax - it's fun for her fans to see a coach react to that crazy high mix for the first time. We all reacted to her pyrotechnics the same way initially, but what made most of us long term fans is the way her spirituality and innate kindness are at the core of every performance. Have a towel handy, to soak up the tears!

Shame she's sick (as in seriously ill) so much of the time, but, when she has her health, and so is able to get herself on form, she's at the very sharp end among the world's best. She's also perhaps one of the world's best arrangers, though, due to her singing prowess, hardly anyone ever seems to notice that aspect.

The typical folk song arrangement is limited to under 2 octaves, so just about all South Koreans sing it. If you go to the longer KBS video for this performance, you can see kids singing it in a more traditional manner. However, the arrangement sung by Sohyang is epic and few singers in the world can do it well.

Great analysis! As for the songs to listen to, people have got misty-eyed over her rendition of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and "Everyone". Personally, I love her performance of "Hug Me" at the DMC Festival 2018 and all of her performances in Kings of the Masked Singer. Some would also recommend "Where Are You" since she hit a B in that song.

One of my favorite voices. You kinda have to get used to her style of scooping up and down through notes as if she is searching for the note. But she can accurately peg any note when she needs to. Looking forward to more reactions to her.

SoHyang is the queen. IN my old opinion, she is the best female VOCALIST on the planet, and once you hear a few more, you might come to the same conclusion. Her few vocal lessons she got were from Seth Riggs, who was Michael Jacksons coach. She did not start singing on stage until she was 19. She is now 42 and her voice is still holding.
That song is about the reunification with N. Korea. The hopes that one day it will happen and they can become one again. The song that I love, and she says is the most difficult to sing, is Everyone.

Great reaction. Many reactors won't rewind to highlight something and discuss. You should listen to her performing different types of songs. Her Lean on Me expresses her gospel roots and technical ability. Mona Lisa (the best vid is on Vimeo) is a rock song and is just fun. Her Everyone is amazing and there's not dry eye in the house. One of my favorites is Dear Love (again use Vimeo), another song that tears at your heart. Dear Love and Mona Lisa are on King of Masked Singers and she wears a silly mask. That almost makes it better. The emotion and charisma still comes through. With all these, keep stopping, rewinding, and changing up the vid. These Korean TV shows are strict on copyright. I think King of Masked Singer might be a little easier but not sure.

by Sohyang it is one of the most sad and emotional songs that I have ever heard of but it is one of her most underrated songs . I love Sohyang so much she is such a beautiful person both on the outside and inside she is not only my most favourite female singer but she is also such an inspirational person to me because she has been through cancer and she has survived it

I am not an any part of vocalist at all, but practicing to be like professional a lot. And every time I hear So-Hyang I notice that level isn't where I can go. Like that holding up the breath ability, bringing her voice to that high note without effort and coming back to low without throat hurt, the sense of her own rhythm and pitch control.
I love her singing for my life! I think I am even lucky to be able to understand her singing in her own language! Because not only her singing technique is impressive, how some of her songs give comfort is amazing. Her performance of singing "Hug me" and "home" is the one you gotta hear if you feel exhausted with your life.
