  • Sarah finally succumbs to shooting some film but it took a very special camera to get her there. This is the start of her journey with the iconic Hasselblad Xpan.

Lovely photographs. This is one seriously expensive street photography camera and very rare too. I also use film quite often for urban photography. I find it a lot more satisfying in the end and the involved process is rewarding if somewhat costly.

In fairness, we bought ours in the late 90s. I wouldn’t want to buy one now.

I agree with you, I like complex photographs and the panorama camera is a great way to accomplish it! I crop to 16:9 a lot of the time to gain a little of what you’re doing here. Bravo for experimenting and getting outside your comfort zone!

crop to a custom crop of 2.70:1 and you get the same aspect ration as XPAN. Go and review some of your 16:9 with the XPAN aspect ratio.

Superb photographs Sarah, good luck with the film. What I like about film is that it makes SD cards look cheap to buy lol.

Used to have one for streets, great fun but I struggled keeping it level handheld even with a spirit level so had lost of wonky horizons. Its also heavy, noisy and no internal display of speeds. Love the image format and do it digitally now.

It’s a fantastic camera. We bought it around 98ish I think. Built like a tank. Never been serviced. Rangefinder is accurate. Meter is good. Yeah it’s a little noisy in operation but for rangefinder shooters like us, it’s a joy.

Yes, their panoramic cameras were arguably the best.

Must be the only XPan in the world with that much paint on it. :) It's the only camera I regret selling.

Sarah , I like all of these pictures and can't remember a bad one from previous videos, but if you want a bit of backup the picture with the train poster in the background works perfectly because the head of the man in front of it has his head right between the two rows of white lights on the engine. The rest of the picture is perfectly composed also. God is in the detail. I kid you not. I m not a fan of colour for street, it just gets in the way for me, but it's up to you. Best wishes Jake E.

2:37 What a fantastic image and the wide frame with the structure on the right provides context. It would have been an interesting juxtaposition of frames to also have a version with just the people and without the structure to add some mystery.

Very exciting to see ya'lls new videos. I've been obsessive over panoramic shooting for past few years. I can't quite afford a real Xpan, and would be afraid I'd buy it and it would brick soon after.
But, I've been dabbling with alternative approximations. I had a PressPan built for me, out of an old Nikon body, with a Mamiya Press lens on front..gives wonderful images.
I have a Shen Hao 6x17....my fav camera, but it isn't terribly portable, so it is for planned shows. I've been experimenting with affordable 1.88 squeeze anamorphic lenses adapted to my M10M.
But right now, my fav....I found a used Fuji GFX50R...that I keep permantely set on the Xpan aspect ratio/crop...with the Light Lens Lab Speed Panchro II 50mm attached.
I now have my portable, digital "Xpan" set up...and have been having a blast looking at the world through different eyes.
Please keep posting more of your Xpan adventures, I think it will really help me think panoramic compositionally!!!
Y'all have a GREAT day!! Looking forward to a new year of adventures with ya'll!!
    CC

Thank you. We have used the LUMIX S1 in the past with the panoramic aspect, and a Leica 21mm lens. That worked fine in the digital world.

Lovely work …. But I’d have gone for a GFX, the 16x9 aspect ratio is fantastic, amazing image quality, good AF, cheaper than an XPan and it wouldn’t have cost you £1.20 every time you press the shutter.

    • @WalkLikeAlice
      @WalkLikeAlice  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

They aren’t remotely the same cameras though. Worlds apart in form, functionality, image quality. We bought the Xpan in ‘98 so it doesn’t owe us anything.

Fantastic camera ... in the hands of an excellent photographer. I rented one about twenty years ago to take pictures of Belle île en mer in Brittany, and I've loved panoramic photography ever since. But this camera has really become too expensive.

Film is lack of menus, useless complexity, unreadable menus, but free to shoot! Every push on Film, I hear sales bell of National cash Register! Less images is good. I'm lazy! I hate editing! I however can't afford film, for daily shoots! My simplicity mode is my Leica M3 and 50mm Summicron. Had it since new! 57 years! Let's see how you go! Film shots look great! All the Best!
