Thank you for taking the time to do this video. The new unit sounds a lot better than the previous one you owned. However, the internal mic still sounds a lot better than the media mod. In my opinion, the GoPro internal mic has a warmer sound and with more bass. The media mod has too much treble and background noise. At least you can connect an external mic to it, but then you need to spend a bit more money to get what you should have gotten when you purchased the media mod. Thanks again.
I totally agree with you. The internal mic is a bit more round and warm, in quiet environments it's perfect. The media mod is a little bit better to isolate voice from noise, but then it creates some sort of "artificial" voice. Thanks for the support! ✌️
Huge difference between this one and last videos but although the sound is a little clearer with the media mod I don't think it justifies spending that much money for the upgrade in my opinion
Thanks for the retest. As many others have pointed out, I think the internal mic is superior in basically all conditions you have shown. The only positive may be the foam for windy conditions. Really a shame since I think that the idea itself is great but the execution really lacking. Just the camera with a spare battery and cheaper stick might be better...
You are right, moreover with just a little of basic audio retouching in post production the internal mic can be improved even more by reducing ambient noise - as I've done in the other parts of the video except for the comparison

Great video!! I have a hero 10 and have always been in 2 minds with the media mod…I can’t see a whole lot of difference compared with the internal mics which I think sound pretty good for internal mics. I just put a windslayer over my GoPro to cancel the wind noise
Great point, the antiwind cover is awesome to reduce wind noises. The media mod allows also to connect external mics, lights, use a more easy to access USB port and so on. If you find it on sale it's still worth a thought in my opinion!

But as I understand I can use the light only with the media mod cover, so that is why I was wondering will I be able to use built in microphone during the evening time with that little light box on the top, to put some lights :)
I was looking for solution to this problem. I found someone suggesting that, while using the front mic of media mod (with windshield), disabling the windnoise settings in GoPro settings; improves the audio to much more extent. Can you please try this by switching off windnoise setting in gopro and then record audio through mediamod front mic. Please try and let us know. Thanks
The reason why some people still prefer the internal mic is because it is more of a super cardioid. A stereo mic is always a compromise microphone. A cheap shotgunmic would always do a better job with one person speaking in a noisy ambience. They should have used a shotgun mic instead. I am going to buy one of røde's cheaper ones.
That's true, however in my opinion it shouldn't be necessary to buy another microphone in addition to the media mod one to have a significantly better audio quality
I'm still not sold on the media mic. The camera mic is much clearer and has perfect bass imo. I'm going to try it myself with just the stock mic for my videos which will mainly be outside anyway.
My current opinions is that Media Mod is designed for vlogging, so if you don't there are little benefits from the accessory. If you vlog in quiet environments there's no difference, whereas with some buzz or background noise the audio is clearer with the external mic. Unfortunately in noisy environments you still have to rely on your post production skills, even the external mic doesn't filter most of it

It was defective so it's not as bad as it seemed. However I have to admit it's somewhat less impressive than I expected, and useful only in specific situations, it's not really an all around accessory
try recording in 5.3k 10bit or even 4k 10 bit..... after like 20 minutes or so the WHITE SCREEN OF DEATH APPEARS saying get a V60 or V90 micro SD card for best results
The title of this video is so bizarre considering the gopro mic sounds incredible, and you clearly had a defective media mod which sounds way better now...
It is meant to be the part two of my GoPro review video, where most of my subscribers commented along the lines "why is the audio so bad?". I didn't mean to create confusion, but only to provide an insightful reply to all those comments :)

Great videos. Can GoPro 11 record with build in mic + external simultaneously, so you get 2 recordings?
Unfortunately no, you have to set which mic is recording (front, back, both, external)

You need to use external additional devices, and then edit everything together on your own

Yes, you can select front microphone, rear microphone or built-in microphone from the GoPro settings anytime you want

Smart decision, you can always buy the Media Mod afterwards in case you need it. I hope you'll love the GoPro 11 as much as I do!
