    Great comparison. To solve the Rode Video Micro II showing up in the shot, I found that attaching the Rode to the side cold shoe (on media mode), rather than top cold shoe, you can get it out of the shot. My everyday use is the DJI Wireless. Thanks for all your help with GoPro videos!

    • @andycharger
      @andycharger ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a great tip and something people who use the shoes seem to forget. For example, you cannot open the media mod door completely with the Light Mod on the top shoe. It fouls the opening unless you force it. Move your light to the side shoe and the problem goes away! Simple when you think about it!

    I'm still learning a lot about recording audio, so if this sounds obvious, it probably is. 🙂
    I think one of the best takes I got from your video is that it comes down to the type of action you're recording as to which mic works the best. The wearable mics seem to be aimed at monologues where you are talking directly TO your audience or in an interview, but in way that is detached.
    The camera mounted mics seem to be aimed at recording the "experience" (waterfall, race track, city street) with voice being part of the action, not a stabilized separate stream or channel.
    I discovered this traveling last summer with new GoPro in the raw, zero experience, and no accessories except a tripod and stick. Setting up the tripod, and then walking 6 feet away and expecting the built in mic to sound fine while I was talking to the camera was a learning experience. 🙄
    I did go back and forth between your DJI and Rode wearables to see which one I thought sounded better. They do sound different, but I can't say which sounds better to me.
    Thanks for what you do!

    • @Gemini_Connect
      @Gemini_Connect  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You make some very excellent points here. Which mic is best really depends on what kind of filming you’ll be doing. I personally prefer the wireless mics because I mainly do walking vlogs and monologues. But if doing hardcore action of any kind or anything invoking water, your only option truly is the GoPro itself as it is the only waterproof/tough mic option. Thanks for watching!

    Great comparison. Thanks for taking the the time to put it together! I stopped using the Media Mod (and the audio adapter) and just use a Windslayer. Biggest issue for me is that the Media Mod doesn’t have it’s own mounting feet or screw - which makes it a hassle getting the camera out to swap batteries, resets, etc.

    • @olds97lss
      @olds97lss 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I hacked mine a bit... I took a spare "foot" and cut it down with a dremel so it was just the length that the media mod is wide, then I used E6000 to heavily glue to the media mod. I have the camera hanging upside down by the foot I glued on and it hangs on a lanyard around my neck. The cold shoe on the other side of the media mod has a clamp in it with a couple legs that are a bit wider than the media mod so the camera doesn't flop around when I walk. It's been working just fine and I can easily slip the camera out to swap batteries without removing it from my neck. I'd post a photo, but pretty sure youtube doesn't allow for that. If you really want to see it, I can make a short video that just has photo's of it in it and put that on my account so you can check it out.
      It looks silly, but it works. lol!

    So far, one of the better reviews for what I was looking for. My biggest issue with my hero camera is it picks up my breathing. My nose is stuffy a lot when I'm outside and I wear my camera on my chest when recording rc vehicle videos. So, I'm a mouth breather 90% of the time when outside... and you can hear every... single... breath. 75% of my editing time is cutting out my breathing from the snippets I have left over after already editing the videos raw footage down (usually 4-5 hours of footage) to just the action shots (5-15 minutes of footage remain). Even then, there are still quite a few where I just get annoyed editing and leave it in. lol! It's flat out unbearable with just the foam thing around the camera that blocks wind. It wasn't any better with the media mod and set so it's using the forward only microphone. I've since covered up 99% of the screen of the media mod microphone with hot glue (desperate times and all) and while that muffled the general sound... you guessed it, still hear the breathing.
    I mean, I'm not Darth Vader or anything, but man, this is annoying!
    So, in the kindest way possible, I'm glad you were breathing somewhat heavy between the jogging/flipping of the camera as so far, you saved me wasting money and hours of footage on microphones I was hoping would help the issue.

    Sennheiser MKE 200 with my GoPro 9 with a Media Mod is my favorit. It suits very well with my style of street vlogging of out of my bag/pocket, quick shoot, put it back, and repeat like 20 plus times in one session. What I like most is that you don't always need to use a dead cat wind protection, and even with the dead cat, it is still small and compact to put in a bag, pocket or on my belt. Even put on a dead cat on it, it is still small enough. When storing the mike itself in a bag is also more carefree than, e.g. the Rode because there is no flexible parts like a shock mount like that of Rode while handling or storing. It is my favourite mike to go on a street use and street vlogging. I have Rode Wireless Go, but when on street, extra steps of switching on and off the microphone transmitter and receiver does not suit me well. BTW the Rode Wireless Go seems to work well with Insta360 One X because the receiver is so thin like the camera itself (but I again don't use it much because I prefer using my GoPro for street vlogging)

      as a 20yr sound engineer, the 200 was the best sounding mic. the problem with this review is the gain levels of each mic. the 200 was quieter than the others. however, if you level matched the different mics you'd find the 200 has the flattest and most natural sounding response, and for only $100?. with the others I'm already hearing which low mid frequencies I'd have to carve out to get it to sound more natural

    Hi have a very important question. I’m interested in buying the Rode Video Micro 2 for my GoPro. Have you tried mounting it on the side cold shoe with the Foam facing forward? And if so does it still show up in frame?

    Are there any mics that can be attached to face person so that you can record video away from you but record your voice with good volume and quality?

    I am currently experimenting with doing no talking nature sound walking videos. I have the Hero 9 with the Shorty Mount like yours and Windslayer cover and i found my first video was picking up an incredible amount of noise from the mount. I think its because im inadvertently adjusting my hand in the mount too much which i can address. - Have you had these issues? If the videos work then i may be looking at alternatives such as the lapel mounted one.

    What happened to the Saramonic Blink 500 ProX B2 Professional Wireless Mic that you previously reviewed and seemed to like? Can you comment on this mic please?

    Question? I just bought the
    BOYA BOYALINK Wireless Lavalier and it does not sound good at all. All kind of noise . Any setting that could be changed to make wireless mics work better? Thanks for you reply and time. Nice mic test video

    Liking that Seinheiser 200! DJI also selling the DJI Mic in a Single Mic + rec for £199 in UK, Actually the Gopro footage you shot was enough for me to decide to get the Action 3 + continue using my iPhone 13 Pro Max. Why Gopro continues to make people buy a Media Mount just for that 3.5 slot and not enable the USB C for Audio on the main unit is just a money grab.

    the bad thing is if we want to use other mic, we need to buy the media mod. So it will cost alot for the audio only

    what mic would be best for loud environments? the internal mic is decent for recording pov drum videos, no audio peaking or any over drowning of static, but im tryna shoot for a little bit better audio just to spice up the videos a bit more

    Hey Suzi, I have a confusion if you can clarify. I currently have a GoPro 11. I use it a lot during day time. We are visiting LV soon. I would like to shoot at night but fear of gopro low light disadvantage. Should I get a cheap gimbal like InkeeFalcon with GoPro. Or just get a DJI pocket 2 to complement gopro at night or in low light?

    Looks like the best quality is from the Rode and the best value for money is from the media mod. Thank you for doing this.

    Hello. I'm thinking about a main camera for motorcycle content on tiktok and maybe youtube. I have insta360 x2 but I want either OA3 or GP11 as the main camera. I want the best video and audio quality. please tell me which of these cameras is the best for a helmet in your opinion? I've seen your videos with the OA3 and I like the color the OA3 produces but a lot of people say the autofocus and sound problems are too loud.
