    No extreme is good.
The Templars believe in extreme safety. Safety is good, but when taken to the extreme it takes away your freedom.
The assassins believe in extreme freedom. Freedom is great, but when taken to the extreme people can harm you.
When being in the middle people are allowed to do as they wish, but must face the consequences of their actions. Some Assassins and Templars allude to this, most notably Ezio, as shown by this quote:
"To say that nothing is true, is to realizethat the foundations of society are fragile, and that we must be the shepherds of our own civilization. To say that everything is permitted, is to understand that we are the architects of our actions, and that we must live with their consequences, whether glorious or tragic."

@@learningfreak15I realise this reply is late, but I would argue he didn't really have a choice and that's part of the tragedy of his character. In the novelisation of ACIII, Forsaken, we get to read about Haytham's childhood, living in London as the son of Edward Kenway. When his father is killed by Templars, Haytham is taken and recruited by them. As he grew up with the order and began to see its faults, he would also see that leaving the order would lead to his death as it would never let him leave peaceably.

Ironic that the templar & assassins in a way want the same thing but threw conflicting methods thus making them enemies. The templar say " in order to secure humanities future we will make a utopia by removing choice/freewill. The assassins say "people must struggle through lifes challenges & must freely choose to work together in order to bring about such utopias. Not all men can be redeemed by words alone so we do what we must by carefully removing such cancers from the world"

Assassins are anarchists; Templars are Marxist-Leninists. Both have the same end goal of establishing a stateless, classless society, but disagree with how to approach this - anarchists want to abolish the state immediately, whereas Marxist-Leninists believe a transitional period is necessary to establish order.

Thats one way to look at it. So far from what ive learned(bare in mind ive never played the games but watched the movie)they share a very similar goal. But their methods are differant. The templar seek to sacrifice free-will for security. The assassins believe in free-will but seek to keep it balanced, people need to choose to be better, to end conflict & unite. It the paradox of humanities duel nature. It would be as bad if the templars werent trying to brainwash people & basically place invisible chains/shackles on humanity

The Templars could be so awesome, if they actually would't try to brainwash everyone in the world and turning them into mindless puppets. I would jump into thier boads if they would give me the simple freedoms of a Human to play games, read, write and do what i want as long as it does not conflicts with other's rights, but due to thier extremeism, they repulse me. The Assassins are maybe too open about anything, but even they have regulations that are agreeable.

EDIT AND NOTE: Please do not try to link these comment to the video. The Templar explained video is unbiased and done with research and has none of my personal feelings on the Order in the video. I tried to make the most objective and best well made informed video possible on the Templar Ideology, Philosophy and ideals from all the 20 books/novels published by Ubisoft! played ALL the games, watched the movie (The Novelization fices many of the mistakes), I read through the comics and bought guides just to give you guys the best Templar video possible... Why did I make it beside having fun? cause most people so far I have seen have their own personal biases put in these videos, there is a lack of information or something else entirely like trying to put them in political party's.
I find the Templar goals relatable but their control is so EXTREME that it repulses me as well. Also if people find out about that Abstergo/The Templars make all the decisions for you then there are no secrets, sometimes you just don't want anyone to know what you do in your freetime or just be alone but in a Templar world they would be impossible, they know all your secrets and you probably aren't alone, who knows it was your decision to stay in your room that day.
They also follow themself with transmitters which could lead to doubt and a lack of trust.
I really really love the Templars but their vision of control eh nope XD.

For the longest time I was on the side of the assassins, but as I matured I realized that the Templars were far better. Total freedom is good only in theory: take away the rules and violence is inevitable; riots, wars, death, destruction.
The Templars believe in peace through power, order through obedience and faith in the Father. Better I think to serve an organization that seeks to build a world where every man is equal and constantly contributing to the greater whole for the sake of all than to serve one which prizes anarchy and the destruction of other men’s hard labor over anything else.

Do you think Ubisoft did a bad job trying to make Templars good in Kenway Trilogy?

    • @obi-ytp-kenobi4712
      @obi-ytp-kenobi4712  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

No not at all I really like the Templar portrayel in the Kenway Trilogy! except in Rogue where they just switched the Assassin’s and Templar roles. There is certainly GREY between the two factions but there are essential differences that Rogue tries to ignore.
      Back to topic.
YES I like the Templar portrayel in the Kenway Trilogy a lot! AC3 has my second favorite Templar portrayel, if you wanna know my favorite well that is AC1. The Templar Goal is not bad in nature and there is logic behind it which people can relate with a lot but the means on how they wanna achieve their goals is kind of questionable.
In AC4 we see the Templars trying to arrest the Pirates or throwing them in jail. AC4 tries to make you sympathise with the pirates for obvious reasons cause you are playing as one but they aren’t entirely wrong.
Templars want Order, stability, Peace, safety and etc. Pirates like Edward do not fall under this catagory for obvious reasons because most Pirates steal, murder, are lose rooks who disobey Order and the goverment and etc you get the picture.
So what the Templars want in AC4 isn’t ‘’evil’’ nor a contradiction with their overall goals. Safety, stability, peace and order.
The Pirates can AND ruin the Templar plans for world Peace… ‘’Peace in everything’’ they want to end all conflicts small or big ones, people like you and me go to our beds and feel safe in the Templar world EVEN if it is fake feeling and a illusion made by the Templars.
Now with that in mind Governer Torres was against slavery itself even though he worked with people inside his Order who owned slaves and outside the Order to. Assassin’s on the other hand will feel disgusted by the idea only for multiple reasons which I don’t have to state obviously and makes them for the majority of the players more relatable.
But this little dialoge with Torres reveals that not everyone is for slavery BUT it’s still a problem inside the Templar Order that can create conflict, in a weird way it’s good that the Templars took control of the world in the Modern Day era because slavery today is looked down upon A LOT more than 300 years ago.
(Except now they can break into your computer XD).
If you think about the hole Crystall Skull thing in the Observatory (Brother Eye 2.0 XD) might be one of the best representation of the Templars view of the words SAFETY AND PEACE THROUGH CONTROL or however you wanna call it.
There must be no conflict and through this artefact they are able to basicly control the entire world. They can take down threats before they happen and everyone MUST put there blood inside a cub or atleast something so they can use it for the Observatory and the Skull… This is all accurate to the overall goals and the ways on how they achieve them!
AC3 well I can make an entire page on each character maybe but in short to say… Almost everyone has a high social status there and some not, Haytham Kenway the Grandmaster fully believes in the Templar Order unlike Thomas Hickey who only cares about himself. He loves money and other stuff more than the Templar Goals and basicly sort of uses them for his own gain.
In AC3 they try to show many ways on how the Templars try to take Control over the world and we humans aren’t supposed to think our actions are bad and that is why I like and aprove of the sympathising aspect of the Templars in the Kenway Trilogy it feels more real… But don’t expect me to mourn every Templar though XD.
Speaking of AC3 I sometimes call Haytham a hypocrite when that rooftop scene. He complains about the people not having a choice BUT he wants to make the choices for the people.
AC2 and Brotherhood are good examples of ‘’corruption’’ inside the Templar Order. Rodrigo cared not about the ideals only about his own personal gain.
So in short… Yes I like the potrayel very much:)
And no I don't consider them ''good''.

Aside from haytham and shay, one if the notable Templars I would like to be recognized is Crawford starrick. I have my respects for him. I think he is also a good Templar. All he wants is the peace and bring order to london. Probably his ways are ruthless like using child labor, paying gangs, and many more, but his intentions are good. It's for the city of London, and the jack the ripper Dlc made me realize that Crawford starrick was right all along. Ever since he died the city was a disorder, and it was not run properly, more crime rates increased, murders, theft. Another man is Francois de lasere he proved to me that a Templar can be a loving father to an assassin just like haytham. Even if he is not arno's biological father. What's even more respectable is he didn't indoctrinate Arno to the Templar order. He didn't want him to get involved and also Elise, when in fact he had all the time, and power to indoctrinate them but chooses not to.

I don't respect De LaFerre one bit. In the King of Beggars flashback he shows clear disrespect towards the class of the poor. Starrick on the other hand, is a man that I aspire to be similar to, ruthless and thorough, yet all for a greater purpose/design.

It depends. They were all technically religious, but were mainly just paying lip service to their respective head of church. They used religion like kings in the 11th century; crowd control and stability.

I would have prefered you didn't include any sort of images regarding the Borgias. They are not true Templars. Hell, even the Templars of today don't consider them as part of the Order.

When I think of how edward would find out his son haytham was a templar, haytham is a knight and a ruthless man but his dad is the reason he became a templar when he foolishly trusted brich, that and that he was a pirate a life that is just as bad as a templar.

I think who is right depends on the context , the assassins under altair and ezio is something i would be down for , but if i was a colonial assassin , the templar argument makes a whole lot of sense.

If you ask Juhani Otso Berg or Haytham Kenway about the Borgia family and their allies (the Barbarigos, the Pazzi and their fellow conspirators, Dante Moro, Micheletto Corella, Carlo Grimaldi etc) they would spit on the ground in anger and disgust and say "May the Father of Understanding curse the Borgia name forever".
Can't blame them, because the time of the Borgia was dark for the Templar Order. As the Borgia and their allies were murderous, rapists, incestuous, and power abusers too.

It's better to ask forgiveness than permission. Im with the Brotherhood all the way. Not because they're the protagonist in the games but because I live in the USA and it could be said that it's being run by the Templars today. Freedom isn't free but it should be, to an extent.

This is kinda inaccurate now. The predecessor to the Templar order was the order of ancients until the 10th century where King Alfred tasked Eivor with killing the last members of the order in England as Alfred disagreed with their religious beliefs but agreed with their ideologies. He was the one who shaped the order of ancients into what would become the Templar Order. The new order held the same ideologies of control and domination but was more based on Christianity rather than the Isu and the gods which is what the order of ancients were motivated by.
