Once selecting the full approach but still on vectors you can activate the leg you need to intercept on the Garmin 480. Select direct, highlight the leg to fly then select Fly Leg.
Thanks for the mention, Gary. One of the interesting things about your Mt Pleasant scenario is, VTF would have also led to the same problem even in the latest GTN750XI. On Wilmington, VTF would not be an issue for the GTN, but it is for the GNS 430/540, your480, and Avidyne units. Maybe more important, as Martin and I discussed about the St Paul video, I think we can expect to see direct to the IF (“Intermediate” Fix) like KAHOE more and more often in the future, particularly when coming in in the arrival side. Time-wise, it’s the same as vectors to final and less workload for both controller and pilot.
You do an overlay with your 480 for an ILS? I typically get vectors for an ILS, just curious how they do it at your home airport. Interesting. There’s also that gotcha off switching to the proper mode, ‘green needles’ vs. magenta ( VLOC vs. GPS). Some have a NAV/GPS switch, some a CDI switch to change to VLOC. Some do this for you when you hit VTF. Aftermarket upgrades can be tricky, gotta know your equipment for sure! Enjoy your content, keep them coming!
Pete, If GPS from GNS 480 is selected and pilot changes the CDI on the 480 from GPS to VLOC, then the Aspen will also change to VLOC automatically, then the needle change. I can’t remember the last ILS I did, maybe in the full motion sim for currency. KSBY Salisbury MD is the closest airport with an ILS and I have shot practice approaches there in the past mixing in with their scheduled service.
Not sure what triggered that noise. My laptop is isolated and quiet and there is no fan running in the room. I did use the mic with the web cam instead of my normal desk mic, that could be it. Sorry it was too much for you to enjoy the video but thanks for checking in.
@@smark1180 maybe you have something that bothers you when trying to learn or watch a video…if you’ve ever been to film school one of the things you learn is that if you have bad audio…people tune out. It’s more important that people hear the dialogue (what you are trying to say)…than watching you say it. It’s something that needs to be fixed. Don’t like my opinion that’s fine…but don’t expect you to respect yours either. Do better.

Can you also select the leg, press the menu button, and then activate the leg?

@@GMascelli ah, ok. Sorry about that; I didn't know that about the 480. Thanks, and have a great day! 🏆

I should have added that I’ll also set up nav 2 for the ILS back up on the KX155.
General Aviation and IMC do not mix (as a former Airline jockey that now flies GA).
Thanks for checking in! If you don't fly IMC it will make it difficult to get home some days here at the shore.
Couldn’t watch due to fan noise.

Whiner for no good reason.
