Want one? Here is a link amzn.to/2d9SO4A
A co-worker decided to buy the Fluval Edge and I agreed to set it up for him. Since it was all new in the box I went ahead and made an unboxing and set up video. So if your curious about the 6 gallon version of the edge check it out. You can only have so many aquariums so it was nice to put this together for him. It will sit a whole 6 feet from my office so I will get to enjoy it and bring you updates on it as well. Note this is the older version of the Edge and I do mention that.

I was reaserching getting a new fluval tank and this was the top suggested video still 9 years later! Thanks Sean for setting this tank up for me all those years ago and continuing to make great videos.

I always thought they were cool aquariums, but I can't believe how small the opening is!

Very nice. You have a good eye for setting up the scope of how things should flow in a small tank. It did look really nice on Spencer's desk. 👍😎😊

This video saved me. The directions that come with the Fluval Edge do not clearly show you how to hang the filter on the back of the aquarium or hide the filter chord so that it is not wedged between the lid and the aquarium. This was the best!

I was thinking about buying this tank as a good starter but decided against it...the small opening in the top would drive me nuts!

I was thinking the exact same thing. I can't have a tank with a little opening like that...it would be impossible to clean properly. Its a stupid design.

It should work fine, the hole isn't that tiny and most of the algae should be gone with a magnet scrubber.

I found a fish tank in my back garden a few years back and I just found out that it was this model! It didn't have the filter or lights but I used it as a danio tank and got a new filter for it. I always wondered why someone would make a tank with such a small opening since it was quite inconvenient but now I know!

After close to 40 years in fishkeeping, this and the fluval CHI were my only purchases last summer. Sold or gave away ALL my shit from lighting systems to 55 gals and moved from a house to a condo. NANO tanks were never on my radar, but with the accumulated years of experience, I figured I got this. I LOVE THIS TANK!!!!! Thanks for the quick and dirty aquascaping Peck. I simply duplicated it easily after digging through a box of old aqua stuff, finding the perfect driftwood.
Everything looks Great! Bought the exact same BURNT ORANG3 to match my bedroom and maan does it pop! Of course sinc3 it’s the old model, I ended up with halogen, but I upgraded to the LED Bulbs. Thinking about buying the LED BAR - wondering if that migh5 be too bright (42 LED) an ruin the cool rustic groove on this…. Comments?

Hi Pecktec, Thanks for posting this video on maintenance for the Fluval Edge 12 gallon. I just set one up a couple weeks ago and have been adding some low-moderate light plants: Anubias and Java Fern on driftwood, and Undulata planted in fluorite (the only substrate I used in this system). I wanted to add some floating plants (wisteria and dwarf water lettuce) and have kept the water level below the top glass -- do you think enough light will reach across the entire top surface for these floating plants?

It can be but mostly because you don't ever want to skip a week of water changes. If things go bad they go bad pretty quick. But that being said all I ever do is scrape the glass trim plants back and change 20% of the water. so about 10 minutes a week.

Cleaning the tank and trimming plants seems like it would be a pain in the ass with that small opening on the top. Also if you decided to restart the tank with new substrate it would be hard to get the old stuff out. Looks cool though.

there is really only 2 things i like about this tank, and only one of them was designed by fluval, i like how the water can go right to the top of the tank, cause it's encased. and i do love them aquaclear filters. but the rest of the tank is a nightmare.

  • @cI0udnine

I purchased one of these about a year ago. Like you said in one of your other videos: it is very hard to maintain and capture fish because of the tiny opening on top. You have a larger version (which is taller, in your other video) and that one is probably easier than the 6 gallon Fluval to get a net into.
I find it so frustrating to get a normal sized net to maneuver around this tank! I also found the filter's waterfall disturbing my substrate because of the low profile (especially when the water level decreased).
Lastly, the "old" version of lightbulbs, are actually quite dangerous. They get VERY hot and I found myself accidentally burning myself when I would lift the hood for maintenance.
They are very cheap, as you said, I got mine on sale for $100 I think.

    • @pecktec

I had one of these tanks a few years ago and loved the look... but, the opening truly is a pain. I would suggest using your hands instead of a "tool"... hehe. BUt, that's me. Maintenance is not as fun with the opening and the lights do die. I like your LED idea much and if I ever get another, which I probably will do, I'll definitely get LEDs. Nice video though and very nice landscaping.

how did the heater hold up? I have the Fluval Edge heater and 6 gal tank. That I inquired Mon Night from a guy that was moving and couldn't take his fish and tank on the drive from the east coast to the west coast. But my only issue is the water is at 77F. the heater turned on when setting up on Mon. but I never seen it on since. Do you have any reviews on how to properly install the Fluval Edge heater? is there a right or wrong why?
