Many manual drivers drive with one hand on the gear lever. Wondering if that can trigger the clutch. Can be scary, when you need power, the clutch is disengaging. Also how will half-clutch be handled by the system. How will it behave on inclines and ghat section, how will revv matching occur. This technology looks interesting but has many questions to answer. @@RobBroderick44 There technology was pioneered in the Saab sea sonic more than a decade ago which had the problem of going uphill in reverse as OP mentioned. I wonder how this holds upto to that
This is the problem of this country. An Indian automaker introduced this way back in 2010 in the form of tvs Jive a.k.a. the no tension bike. No one really cared about that bike and failed miserably. Now, people are ready to accept the same technology offered by a foreigner. Indians, please do promote the innovations 💡 and inventors of our country as well.
There was one more step-through two wheeler called Hero Honda Street which allowed you to change gears without any clutch and the vehicle engine didn't stall even if you accidentally stopped while being in 4th gear. But other than this feature, it was not such a good bike. Also, in India many times instead of how good a product is, merely the projection or image of that product matters a lot. Tata Nano was a fantastic car by all means. But the perception among people that this is a poor man's car and if we buy this car then others will assume that we are poor caused a lot of problem to this car (apart from Mamata Banerjee this was the other reason for Nano to fail). Ideally, a good product should be accepted just as a good product - why worry about what others think about it? But NO, in India, many times what others think matters way too much compared to what you want for yourself. Now a days that has started changing and people are also now used to getting a lot of variety in the technology across all kinds of products and they are now much more willing to try things that are outside a typical mould or mindset.
I have a 21 forte 6 speed aka Hyundai. It's the whole reason I bought the car. I peaked in the window on the dealer lot, saw the stick and said "this one". If it didn't have a clutch pedal I would've just bought an automatic. No point in reinventing the wheel. The manual works, leave it alone. Seems like a overly complicated half ass manual that's just adds to the price.
What we need is a complete auto unit with paddle shifters AND AN INTELI CLUTCH(3rd pedal) which engages only when we press the clutch (only when we feel/need to take control off the clutch manually) otherwise the clutch should be automatic. A tiptronic gear lever with this setup will be good. This will be more exciting rather than anything else I feel.
The real problem will come when we return to.manual from imt... Chances are that we might change gears without pressing the clutch pedal... But all said, nothing can beat the joy of a manual for people like me...
This won't work in India. If they gave some kind of manual paddle shift there would be a way some automatic users or manual users could adapt. In the UK they had a car like this which failed in the 90s. When reversing uphill the car would move ahead and then go back. Was shown on an old Top Gear series with James May trying to park it.

This is a great opportunity for Hyundai to brand all manual transmission as old, outdated technology. They could do something innovative on pricing and branding- to get minimum orders to convert to iMT, offer it as same price as manual transmission! This could be difficult for the base variants, but should be possible from mid-variants upwards. And start introducing IMT to all Hyundai cars. This could really hurt Maruti by pulling in a significant proportion of the urban customer base to Hyundai. and paints Hyundai as superior to all their major competitors. That sort of branding is gold for customer perception. It can also be a cheap upgrade to anybody interested in a torquey diesel vehicle by completely avoiding the heavy clutch problem! So, can be used to target Mahindra and Tata SUV buyers with a basic Hyundai diesel SUV.

@@vamshis1756 you are not understanding what I am saying firstly I am engineer at present working in Volkswagen R&D pune. And electronics that you are talking about are common in all cars but we used to discuss here how electronic are coupled with mechanical systems like abs in this system breaking unit is coupled but it's coupled with abs electronics system indirectly. For example in breaking system as we apply pressure it pressure travels directly to break pads, now Abs in extra system which is attached to it it main aim to regulate fulid pressure so breaks doesn not lock.. so we can call as abs electronics are not directly coupled in process of breaking.. in many cars like Lamborghini stearing coloum is not all present like in your present car has like long road and bar machanism. They have only sensors and moters directly attached to stear machanism. Means stearing wheel and wheels are not directly connected their is motor sensor which sense and turns wheels. connection so in this case electronic are directly coupled in system.. and in audi Q7 it has 4wheel stearing system so it's electronics only which steras back wheels so it's directly coupled with electronics system and about automatic you need to learn and how clutch engaged and disengaged. And talking about imt in this level it's not fruitfull for long terms bcz their electronic is not at level to tolerate harshness of Indian geography and for your information low RPM has high torque so it's achiveable only on manual clutch assembly of duelclutch automatic and also There is a different world other than AMT😅
@@R_R10 I know that their is world beyond amt, like at, dct and CVT, but those are not used in budget cars right, companies are just now introducing them in sub 10L cars, I'm comparing it to amt because it is some what similar to imt, and since you are in R&D you must know that pretty much all cars today have extensive dependence on electronics, and in imt the clutch is only thing that is electronically controlled, All automatics control the gear shift and clutch electronically, how is this any worse than those systems?
Have you never seen a car before with reverse gear near 1st gear...many cars have this from many years( especially cars with 6 gears)...you don't have to worry about it...you just have to put 1st gear like you do in any other cars...! Only when you have to put Reverse gear...you need to push the gear lever down and then slot into reverse gear...if you didn't push the gear lever down, it will always slot in 1st gear...!

Reverse gear is 1st tr...Wil b more confusing while shifting.... usually in manual we have at last
Have you never seen a car before with reverse gear near 1st gear...many cars have this from many years( especially cars with 6 gears)...you don't have to worry about it...you just have to put 1st gear like you do in any other cars...!
Only when you have to put Reverse gear...you need to push the gear lever down and then slot into reverse gear...if you didn't push the gear lever down, it will always slot in 1st gear...!
Could anyone explain how this iMT works in reversing the car on to a hill climb?
I mean it's inconvenient in Manual Transmission as it is!
If they don't offer hill hold assist you can make use of your hand brake. There was a Top Gear episode making fun of a similar tech car with the problem you mentioned.
@@barisondude7673 Yeah, I reckon the car in question was Saab Sensonic, that's what made me ask this question. Hopefully they have done something about it. Just wanted to confirm.
It does the clutch slip for you, once you let go off the brakes it starts it's pull back and hit accelerator for more. Also has hill assist
What's the point now this vehicle introduced in Indian market. I mean already the indian vehicle market is flooded by automatic cars comes in all sizes and in all ranges.
This is just 🔥
Do we have to release acceleration every time, when we shift gears??
Nope...!
@@akshaydhanorkar i wonder how it will work without releasing accelerator bcoz in this transmission car will automatically use clutch builtin which will work only after u release accelerator (this is what science says) idk if this is right but if it is right then it’s better than other 2 transmission
Super cool...! Yup.. I’d like to try...
Can you explain what happens if you are in 5th gear and you don't downshift after slowing right down?
I'm assuming it will eventually just disengage the clutch, but good question 🤔
This will be my girlfriend's new weapon!!
So will the driver be able to change gears when the car is not running and ignition is not on? Like how you can still change gears by depressing the clutch even when the car is just sitting?
How many feel KS was very handsome clean-shaven! ☺️
please say about shifting speed.
is there any lag?
Do this have automatic revmatching?
Do this have better engine braking than AMT?
Is this the same as hero honda street?
Kia sonet is going to be a Game changer.
Fantastic review #anchoring 😀 (gold coins 😁)
Phew.. glad to hear that man.. getting a bit of stick for it.. 🙏🙏
So basically, what is left to do for automotive manufacturers is to introduce a dummy clutch pedal with the springs and all to make you feel you are using a clutch but the iMT does the work for you.
What happens if the clutch sensors doesn't work or get damaged by any cause?
Very good explanation bro... Its very good technology i think it will generate bigger volumes for hyundai..
This technology is not new. I am using it my swift. This technology is already available in india and many countries.just a separate kit of motor actuator and and controller u have to install without any changes in engine, gearbox and wiring. You can use it as semi automatic as without pressing clucth or in normal manual mode.
Thanks for sharing that sir! Which city are you in? Would love to know more.
@@SirKart I am from Pune. For more details you can search "automate india" on youbtube where you can find videos related to this technology.
@@01chaitanya hey Chaitanya, yes, I am aware of Automate. I am also from Pune. Was hoping to get your feedback on the product and experience.
I am using it from last one and half month only but experience is good. Very convinient in city.U can change the mode between auto/manual on go no need to stop vehicle.little bit jurky in 1st 2nd gear but after that it is smooth. You can get software updates for the controller from its service centre.overall it is good and u can shift it from one car to other car.Bdw I like your all videos.keep it up😀✌🏼
@@01chaitanya would you mind if we got in touch with you? If yes, Could I request you to drop in an email at editorial@girnarsoft.com ? Will take it from there. And, thank you!! 🙏
I am just curious to know, so this car itself will not stop u unless you off it, something like automatic cars, i feel this is a good option those who wants to control the car under them
Time can only tell if it is reliable as clutch wear will be more when it is being engaged and disengaged by a computer. There would be a reason why none of the other manufacturers opted for this kind of an automatic transmission and only time can tell which one it is.
Very good presentation 👍
I am a huge fan of Hyundai cars. But recently when my car went through a minor accident and i called the RSA of Hyundai, they sent a unprofessional guy who started the car knowing that the engine oil is drained, resulting into total damage of the engine. My car is become useless and Hyundai is not at all responding to the emails i sent nor there is any update of the tele-complaint that was made. I am amazed to see how Hyundai treats its customers when one is going through a tough time. I just want my car back.
Gold Coin Part Was Out Of This World😂
refreshing narration
This is very similar to the Saab sensonic which came out in the late 90s. Top gear did a funny episode on that and showed how it was impossible to control the car when tryijg to park on a hill! Fun video and great presenter !
Bhai kahan they tum......was eagerly waiting for your review......
and where is you hair tale
Haha.. saaarr!! Did a review too.. please do see when you get some time- seltos vs creta! How have you been?
Is it strain gauge that race cars use with sequential transmission. Looks like a copy of that. But what if sensor fails?
Have you tried parallel parking on an incline?
You should give that demo on Toyota Fortuner iMT gearbox
Simply the BEST !
What if the sensor goes wrong so how are you suppose to shift in that case
Your Explaination is very funny in other hand interesting video
Great video 😂🔥
Its very discomforting for a manual driver to drive an automatic. The feeling of having no clutch pedal to shift gears is like falling to a pit while dreaming and suddenly waking up.
😅😅 but in this u will definitely fall to a pit 😅😅
no way! there are no points buying manual transmission without the clutch pedal. The clutch pedal is key point of manual transmission. I'd buy torque converted automatic transmission with a clutch pedal than stick with no clutch pedals.
Hyundai: Yay! We are the first to bring iMT to India😏
Maruti Suzuki: Hmm... We will wait for 2 yrs & see sales numbers of this🤔
2 years later......
Headlines: Maruti Suzuki launches iGS (intelligent Gear Shift) / SGS (Smart Gear Shift) technology for 15k over Manual versions 🤣🤪👏
MARUTI suzuki will never care abt others, they know wt Indians like to buy, aft seeing everything they will launch it and again they prove it s no 1 in sales.
2:05 umm why do i see the clutch pedal?
