- I show you step by step how to change the oil pressure sensor on your turbo PT Cruiser, this process will apply to all turbo PT Cruiser's, none turbo PT's are similar and you may still find the video helpful.

I watched a couple other videos before this one just trying to figure out the what/where and they were severely lacking. I ended up doing it from the top and removing the whole air filter unit to make a bit more room, but this video helped find it.
Glad to hear, the non turbo ones I do from the top but I find the turbos are easier to do from the bottom.

I love the detail on your videos and how you're willing to be as explicit as possible. Kudos for that and love to see a lot more of videos about this car. Deffinitely learning a LOT from them.

Outstanding DIY explanation and video. I tried going in top side first, removing the air cleaner, PDC, and tube to the turbo. Didn't help. Your method is the best for turbos and manual trans GT's like mine. The 3/8" drive ratchet is recommended too. Well done!

Don't have the turbo model, but just did same job. Watched awesome videos. Watched mechanics showing placement of sensor. Still had problems trying to find it as floor jack was low on oil. Found diagram on Google. Found it,changed or within 10 minutes. Tokyo longer than I want to admit trying to find the damn thing. Did it by braille after that. Now no crazy irritating dinger going off
Great instructional Matt. Wish I had watched before dropping at the shop. Not so easy though, even with a lift. My oil light stayed on after start. Then I drive or idle, then shut down, then start again and wala! no light. I think it was just beginning to get oil seepage into electricals.
Too bad my mechanics don't watch TH-cam. The shop said it was connection, fixed it. Next day oil light. Then they said 'Ohmage' was off on switch and replaced it. TWO diagnostics charges....heavy sigh.
Yeah that is frustrating, such a cheap part too, I will just toss a new one in every time and worry about “diagnosing” if that doesn’t fix it. Thanks for the feedback, stay tuned, plenty more PT content coming.

I just changed the oil on my 08 PT non turbo. Later that day, the oil pressure light came on. Otherwise the car runs the same and shows a good amount on the dipstick. Do you think i may have just bumped or had some oil leak on the sensor, causing it to go off? Thanks for any advice!
My 07 just started to show the oil light after first start off the day and not going out unless I shut off the engine and restart. My first thought was the oil pressure switch I think your video confirms my thoughts.

Eaub Felangy I actually did a pile of work to this orange one and it was all done on a time crunch since my folks just left in it today on a 6wk cross country trip. Between filming, working on the car and sleeping I just didn’t have time to edit. But the good news is I have a large stock pile of PT vids (and Benz vids) and I have plans for a whole lot more, no worries if you see a lag, it just means I’m busy filming.(-:

Matt I tried a 27mm and 1/16 was too big had to use a 26mm worked removing it thanks should of watch your video before I removed all the top for it.
That’s weird, I wonder if that was an aftermarket sensor. Glad you got it in the end anyways.
My PT does this when im idling especially. Blinking blinking blinking ugh, I am going to try this. I am giving the car to my niece so I hope I can get it working for her.
The oil light is coming on at idle and then going off when you speed up the engine? If that’s the case it might not be a bad sensor but a bad engine… Typically if the sensor is bad the engine speed would have no relevance.

If the oil blew out of the pressure sensor than yes, you definitely need to replace it. It is a pretty common place for it to leak and a pretty simple and cheap fix.

@@krystallyn8351 Have you changed the temperature sensor? I do have a video on that also. They can leak internally just like the oil pressure sensors and then give false readings. Another thing that would be handy is a laser thermometer and check the actual temperature of the engine near the thermostat housing and confirm the gauge is reading correctly (should be around 200-205 when fully up to temp) Replacing the electric fan is a good step, they are two speeds and often the high speed will fail and people don’t even know. Let me know if you have more questions.

Where is the map sensor on the pt cruiser limited edition 2.4lt turbo
Does the oil need to be low when you do this? Any sealer or teflon tape recommended?
No it is above the oil level and the new sensors normally have thread sealant on them that is sufficient.
In case the sensor has already been changed but the dash light is still on

@@CarswithNash ..this might work out. Just kidding. Dang that sucks though, I wonder if I could pop off the fuse box and get at it from there. I really want to avoid having to go under the thing.
@DragoChronicSmoker42 I hear you, but unfortunately the turbo is the thing in the way, so I don't think there's any way around going under. I know I tried to go from the top to start with because that's how I do the none turbo ones and it just wasn't happening for me, so if you do find a way, let me know.
Which side is that sensor?
It’s towards the left side of the vehicle.
Just a note : There is no way you will do this job from the top if your car has a manual shift transmission because there is a whole lot of shift mechanism in the way !
neil mccolman Oh that could be, the shift cables do run through there, the one I did from the top was a non turbo automatic. You should be able to access it from the bottom just like I’ve shown here.
Hey matt another awesome video-quick question for you- on my 2004 pt non turbo 5spd,ke light seems to come on (as if i was setting the parking brake) for a quick 2seconds followed by a quick chime you when accellerating from a stop. It happens intermittently, usually if i pull out of a stop very fast. Have you encountered this problem before?
That would be the brake light on the dash i am referring to. Sorry for the confusion

Thanks so much.. now for my next question, I went to replace the sensor and noticed that the retainer clip is broke so most of the clip is gone, I picked up a aftermarket clip that I'll need to wire in have you had to do this and how hard of a job u think it will he to splice in on that little short pig tail they give you on the factory harness :/ seems almost impossible bit I need to replace the clip so I have a seal (previous guy used silicone)
@@kennethgrimes4298 Is there anyway to use a little zip tie to hold the plug in place? That is a very tight area to try to splice wires in…

Anyways I was able to remove air cleaner box and have easier access so I could strip and splice new connector in? Jobs done
If you use a 1 and 16th you need a 6 point. Im about to do this job and a 12 point will not work

@@CarswithNash i bought the part 1st and realized i needed a socket for it so i took it with me. Due to the rounded corners it will fit in a 1 inch 12 point but doesnt fit right
@@CS-en5xz I see, good info to know if you’re buying a socket for sure. I think they have specific sockets for this purpose that are rubber lined or something but if you are careful a regular 6 point one works fine.

Shayne Gillis Yes and they all have the same issue with leaking. The replacement procedure is the same for any, just the access is a little different on the none turbo’s and they don’t have the heat sleeve on the wire like this one does.

Tony Schurbon Those sensors do commonly go bad, they get an internal leak where the oil passes into the electrical portion of the sensor and short circuits it creating a false signal. However the fact that you just changed your oil is a little concerning... Oil filters can collapse internally and cause a loss of oil pressure, that would be my concern that you got yourself a faulty oil filter, if it was me I would change that filter out, not the oil, just change the filter and top up the oil, cheap insurance to make sure you don’t ruin your engine. If you still have the oil light going on then it’s gonna be a bad sensor. I’m guessing it probably has a bad sensor because the engine would sound pretty terrible if it really had no oil pressure, but then again that sensor if working properly is very sensitive and you could have a partially clogged oil filter that was causing low oil pressure but not low enough to make the engine noisy... The safe thing is to change the filter to be sure, use a Wix or OEM filter (Napa filters are all made by Wix).
@@CarswithNash Matt, you ended up being right. It was not the senser. I took a short drive, being somewhat naive. Short way down the road started hearing/feeling shaking/squeeking. Pulled over and got towed to the shop. They said the motor is indeed done for. But the weird thing is they said the filter was totally dry. They put another one on and tested it, it also came out dry. What could cause this do you think? A possible error while changing the oil?
Tony Schurbon I’m very sorry to hear this, that is why I encourage people to still pay attention to those sensors even though they are known to be faulty. If it’s not filling the filter at all it sounds like the oil pump has failed, I honestly can’t think of any way you could’ve caused that, sounds like a case of bad luck to me.
