    That track made me nervous from the steady safety of my chair. I can see why Izzy was nervous!!!! 😮

      Thank you, wow that sounds incredible and I can imagine Nigeria in 1977 was still incredibly raw, a real adventure and great memories. 🙏😀

    Well done Izzy! It’s definitely worth doing your truck license, so much easier to learn to drive a big vehicle that’s not your home and build your confidence.

    Excellent nice one ......from the camera the truck was floating nice .....but the thought of getting bugged down with the weight is hairy all right

    Well done, best way to deal with anxiety it to always challenge it and push a milestone forwards and to not give up. Otherwise it takes over you. It may not seem as easy as said as it takes really years of practice, I been through it my self and it almost took me over until I started going against it, was pleasant at beginning but after 10 years I’m totally different than before and start going back to my old natural self

    • @TheGapDecaders
      @TheGapDecaders  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, yeah it's definitely something you've got to work at. But with more exposure to challenging conditions and understanding the capabilities of the truck (plus a course) I'm confident it’ll come. 🙏😀

    It's just a big car...piece of cake! My wife hated the heavy clutch in ours, but fear of off-road is pretty common, and I'm thankful for that as there's more room out there for me!

    • @TheGapDecaders
      @TheGapDecaders  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It'll come, a big more exposure to this terrain and a course and she'll be there.

      Hi and thank you, it's the Michelin Morocco 742, you can get it on Amazon. 👍🏻😀

    What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Baby steps Izzy but Phil obviously believes in you as we all do.
    Can I ask what sort of speed do you get over the tracks?

    • @TheGapDecaders
      @TheGapDecaders  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi John, LOL thank you and yes we'd agree.
      It depends totally on the terrain, anything from 10mph to 30mph, the desert's pretty much the same colour so you don’t see the hole or hazard until you’re on it, that said you definitely need a bit of momentum particularly in the soft stuff. 🙏😀

    That’s not off-road. Easy for any expedition truck. Could do it in a Mini! 😂

    • @TheGapDecaders
      @TheGapDecaders  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Paul, totally agree but until Izzy's confidence grows (with experience) it's the limiting factor (hence her intention to complete a truck off road driving course).
      It doesn’t matter that I spent 25 years in the army driving everything everywhere and two years teaching off road driving to the extreme, she'd rather hear it from someone else 😀
      Give us a shout when you take the Mini over that, it'd make a great video 👍🏻🤣🤣

    I loved the look of the track through the desert but I can understand Izzy's nervousness. However, I really admire your determination to get your truck licence and 4x4 training as I can't think of anything worse than sitting in the passenger seat!
    Great video as always - many thanks 😊

    A little more speed would have helped in my opinion. We drove around the area in a Seat Alhambra people carier 5 ish years ago. But it's sensible to work yourself up to with offroading worst thing you could do is go beyond your comfort and get stuck in that heavy truck.

    • @TheGapDecaders
      @TheGapDecaders  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, yep definitely need a bit of speed creating momentum in sand.
      i've been very fortunate to have spent 25 years in the army driving everything in all conditions including the desert, and had two fantastic years teaching off-road driving and self-recovery in a whole manner of vehicles.
      The issue here was managing Izzy's anxiety and trying to build her off-road confidence, the trucks brilliant although it certainly wasn’t tested in this video.
      And yes, anyone can get stuck but never ideal when it's a truck, but hey ho it's all part of the adventure. 😀🙏

    Quick question, if you have the time, your box is about 5 meters by 2 meters, right? Is 6 meters by 2 meters just crazy? Or is it doable? I am aware that it won't really be an expedition truck, something of a hybrid. But I think I can live the rest of my life in 6x2.
    And you need a power drill with a pumping attachment. Watching you guys in Georgia right now (on the military highway), and your watering can works but with a power drill you could have water in a snap anywhere you can find a good source. Personally I want a filtration system too.

    • @TheGapDecaders
      @TheGapDecaders  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Kevin, yep pretty much spot on with the box dimensions, it's 2.2 wide but you could go to 2.4 width depending on your base vehicle.
      Re water - yep I've seen them and a great idea (particularly as I carry a drill) I've actually made a little pump but it’s all learning 🙏😀.
      Georgia's superb, when you get sorted definately consider a visit.
      Appreciate the support 😀

      @@TheGapDecaders So my "Izzy heights" were accurate! (I froze the video when Izzy was by the box.)
      Yea... the whole thing is one massive learning experience, I can't wait to get started but have to pay for my kid's education before I can start building.
      Me? I want this to be a lifetime home, removable from the truck if I need to settle down. So I want enough space I will never want something bigger. 6 meters by 2 meters should be enough for one.
      (Right now I also want something that fits inside a shipping container, my kids might be in Europe or the Americas... maybe Asia?)

    • @TheGapDecaders
      @TheGapDecaders  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kevinhasker Hi Kevin, time spent researching is definitely time well spent, get into as many trucks as possible as you'll pick up so many genius design gems (particularly the small stuff, different platform/steps, lighting, water management, best toilet setup, build weight and 50/50 axle balance, security it's endless but exciting 👍🏻😀

    • @kevinhasker
      @kevinhasker ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheGapDecaders So a serious question.
      Have you looked into how much it would cost you guys to ship your truck to the US?
      I might have told you I want the box to be separate so that I can use it as a house, I also want to be able to ship it from the US to Europe and back. (Don't know where my kids will be.)
      Right now I am working on the idea of building something that can fit in a (high box) container, but that imposes restrictions that I could really do without.

    Great to see even with stress you can push through and see that it gets better as you gain more experience. 💪 👍🏜
    Just remember you have a beast of an Expedition truck that can handle paths like that.😊 congratulations on deciding to sign up for a off reading course when you get back.👍
    Most wives will believe a stranger over their husbands in these things.
    My wife didn't believe me for years when she saw water dripping from under the car, when I said it was just condensation. 😅😅😮 it took a "sales manager" saying the same thing that it wasn't leaking it was condensation from the a/c being on. Go figure 🤔
    But she totally... apologized to me right after that and told me I was right. 😅😂😉😁🤣

      😂 lol, you get exactly where i'm coming from.
      I spent 25 years in the army and have driven everything everywhere including two years teaching off road driving & self recovery, will she listen to me? NO, she'd rather spend £££'s listening to a total stranger🤣🤣 😀👍🏻
