I have turned a shotgun mic into a wireless mic using the rode wireless go system and it works great! Check out this video from DSLR Video Shooter: th-cam.com/video/fyFbI4yOOig/w-d-xo.html
Thanx. You did not talk about the screens on each one. You briefly referred to the Rode, specific to its screen prompts appearing on the camera screen, but no further info to see how they worked. Was one easier to navigate than the other?
That could be a video all on its own! Rode has buttons and the app to update settings while DJI has a touch screen on the receiver. I prefer the DJI user experience all around.
Hi what’s the best settings in camera and receiver for vlog style video would you recommend I have Panasonic s5ii i try it the other day but quality didn’t sound great
@Kri Edholm I have the Rode Wireless Go II and mainly using it as a mic for the Iphone 12 pro. Do you still need to adjust levels when recording the video jibe, for example using the standard video recorder. ?
DJI is a game changer. Definitely the best so far (March 2023) only downside is that it can’t storage the audio to a mobile device (not a plugging play system)
Fantastic video; I've been going back and forth on both of these for a couple months now. It's such a tough choice. for me I like the sound of the Rode better, but I like the size and screen features of the DJI better.
In terms of ease of use and convenience, there is nothing the RODE does better than the DJI. I've seen comparisons where the RODE performed marginally better than the DJI over long distances, which is not something that matters to me. And in any real scenario, nobody gets to compare sound quality between two versions. I bought the DJI system a year ago and have since purchased a second kit. Nobody has complained about my sound but, in case I've missed something and the RODE produces objectively better sound, I plan to ban sound engineers to keep complaints to a minimum. The only thing I would advise is to always activate the internal safety recording if the subject(s) you are recording is/are moving around. Line of sight is key; the transmitters' reliable range can reduce drastically if there is any physical obstruction, even a stray person or the wearers themselves if they turn their backs to the receiver. I fitted transmitters to two nieces at a Mercedes driving event last year and the signal broke up even though I was walking in a crowd (inevitably carrying phones etc.) less than 30 yards behind them. There were also plenty of walkie-talkies around, which can't have helped. Whether the RODE would have fared any better in these circumstances is up for debate. The presenter in this video manages to give the impression that DJI firmware updates are complicated, which is crazy. You plug each unit into your computer where they appear as a removable drives, download the appropriate file (transmitters and receiver have their own files) and copy it across. There's no app and no hassle; disconnect the device and the update is automatically applied while you go on to the next one. I can't comment on the RODE's update process but I can't imagine it could be any easier, which is more than can be said for access to those internally recorded files. To get to the RODE's files, you have to launch their app, a step DJI shows is unnecessary. If you go the DJI route and plan on using separate lavalier mics, do some research because some lavs don't play well with it. Conversely, I can't say I have heard of the RODE system suffering from compatibility issues with any accessory lavs and RODE do sell their own, which DJI don't do. I don't know if I've made your choice easier but I did try. If you have any questions about the DJI, fire away.
@@alanoakley3242 thanks for the great amount of insight. I have decided to go the DJI route for a variety of reasons. Design, functionality, and simplicity, especially with the whole charging case setup. I have some rode audio equipment now which is why I was considering them, they have been dependable products, but DJI seems to be doing well in multiple markets right now.
Thanks for a great vid. You settled it for me. Going with the DJI. I like the way you set them on a table. I have an idea how to boom them, so they'll be out of the way. Wanted to compliment the wonderful lighting. I wish I had the space, as I don't, I use a green screen. What is your key light, and softbox? Thanks again. Looking forward to more videos.
Thanks so much, Speakenly! I'm using the Godox UL60 as my keylight. The softbox is 32" generic with a grid although I use a variation of small and larger-sized lights. I'll do a studio tour video soon to show you what my set up looks like.
great to see a real fair comparison! Most of the reviews are currently from DJI-fanboys. Okay, the DJI mic is good, but this could be expected, when bringing a new system on the market. It must have more functions, learning from the competition etc. And it costs more...
Great vid. I have the wireless go II but yours sounds way better lol. What settings do you use? I.E do you use the built in presets? Do you set your internal camera audio to level 1?
@Kri Edholm yes, you can start reviewing some more used gadgets like smart phones, i know there is a lot of competition but it still works, and 2 you can also start telling people how to make quality videos like a you tube academy for beginners, all the best, you are awesome and will make it just hang on and keep up the awesome work 🔥
I'm not sure if updating the FW to the DJI mics is complicated. It's literally dragging a single file into a folder and it updates. Maybe not as streamlined as it could be, as you have to do it for each device, but I wish my camera was as easy to update.
@@kriedholm but apparently only when used with the receptor. And I guess we can record with transmettors only. Is there any benefit of using the receptor ?
DJI definitely has a nicer sound to my ears. Also, Rode is easily clipping. Talk loud, and you're screwed even on the lowest dB setting. I'm not sure about DJI.
The biggest flaw of the Wireless Go II for me is the inability to use the transmitters as simple mic/recorders without the receiver. All we needed was a dedicated record button and lock switch.
@@seriouzfilmz9397 Yes it does do that with a 3 second press to start and stop and no other info as to whether or not it is recording and no way to turn that feature on without connecting to your phone or computer first, no way to change the gain, no way to have the unit on and pause recording, etc… So it’s fine if you know for sure that always recording is on and if you want to do one long recording but otherwise it’s a terrible user experience.
The transmitter can be used as a mic recorder without the receiver. Active the settings for record to always and whenever it's turned on it will record 7+ hours uncompressed.
@@bodie1980 yes it can but it’s a pain to use with little control without being connected. Pressing the power button for 3 seconds to record is just silly.

would a shot gun mic such as a rode video mic etc provide better "quality" audio vs the go II / dji mic
A shotgun mic is going to pick up more ambient noise, so not necessarily. All depends on the environment.
