Fundamentally, A CPU is easy to understand, Its function is to read data from memory and read a command from memory on how to operate on that data, and then perform that command. However, while modern CPUs still use this level of basic function, there are extremely complicated and convoluted ways of designing/abstracting and implantations of clever techniques that modern CPUs so that such a CPU can compute hundreds of billions of basic math problems per second.
If you are curious how the manufacture of a Microprocessor/CPU in general can be performed on a molecular scale and with mass production: The manufactures start with 2 types of silicon, p-type/n-type. combining these in the right way creates transistors. The manufactures start with a wafer of silicon and then they add a separate layer of silicon on top of the wafer, the whole processor is coated with an "etcher" which is a material that breaks up the chemical bonds of silicon when exposed to ultraviolet/black light, the manufacturer then shines an ultraviolet laser through a sort of stencil (similar to how old movie projectors work) and the etcher dissolves the silicon where light was shined on it, the wafer is then washed off (to remove the etcher and the broken up silicon, leaving some parts of the wafer itself directly exposed, while there are some parts where the silicon that was added is still exposed. this process is repeated over and over until the processor is complete.
