I just woke up in the middle of the night because the universe wanted me to see this video 😂 I'm the second one here and I'm the worlds second biggest GP38 fan! Almost nothing sounds better than one of these, with its "big block" 645 without a nyeh nyeh nyeh turbo. I think these have a bit more of a beefy american "v8" sound to them than the 567s. This is like the equivalent of a mid-late 60s GM muscle car in the railroad world as far as I'm concerned. I love these just as much. It helps that my first locomotive I encountered in life was an ex Conrail GP38 with the world's best leslie RS3L I've gotta say, (despite the couple limitations Railroader imposes on this mod, like the rough transitions moving quickly between notches) this is easily the best thing yet I've found that scratches that virtual EMD itch. Gp38-2 (x2),GP39, and GP40-3 and hes right you have to be able to do all jobs as staffing is tight so there's many days where its just an operator and switchman getting EVERYTHING done. changing oil, brakes, electrical, engineers hooking up his own air on head end while switchman is getting brakes. all of its. It's awesome

See it go 200+cfm on the digital screens sometimes. The flow is also great for telling how good your set will be less flow means a stronger set on the brakes and more flow means a softer set. Have in a few instances purposely came back with a set after a release too soon to get a softer set on the brakes allowing the train to ride over some humps without needing to release the air. This can get you sticky brakes when you release however. Another real cool sound to catch would the electrical cabinet noises when you transition to Dynamics.

Great video as always, Mark! An intersting tidbit sort of on the same line as the SOO Line's wonky horn placement, when Maine Central was doing their "retools" on their fleet of 38s, they moved the bells above the engineer-side front window. IIRC the theory was to keep the bell up out of the snow. One of those wonky New England things, I suppose
Needs to be a high short hood ‘cause the route this game is based on is the Southern Railway Murphy branch and the Southern used exclusively high short hoods and were frequently seen on the Murphy Branch.
Those Non Turbo EMD prime movers working hard is just beautiful as far as Diesels go. I still like the heart beat of a steam engine better but, these are next best
Mark, if you liked this model and the little details in the cab, you should see what I and others do in Garry's Mod. It truly is incredible what some people have the motivation to create.
Absolutely a locomotive lighting nerd myself probably due sitting with mom and my siblings waiting for dad's train when he was a carpenter working on the Standard Oil building downtown Chicago and just watching the outbound CNW commuters coming into the depot with the Mars lights flashing, the lit portholes on the Es and Fs. The sweep of the Mars on the old coal yard sheds as well as the traditional green to front and field red to the rear markers on Pullman Standard bilevels and the class lights set to red on the inbound trains. CNW had a change of management in 74 and the edict came down Mars lights were to no longer be used and as the locomotives that had them needed shop time the upper Mars headlight was to be painted over or otherwise rendered inoperable ( hence the commuter Fs you'd see with a bell mounted to the upper headlight) and supposedly management was so serious in their butthurt over Mars type lights there was a hogger assigned either a former CGW SD40 or GP30 with it's CGW standard Mars/Gyralight still intact and either the hogger just liked the motion lights or was former CGW so he ran his train with all lights on including the white Mars light. At the end of his run or crew change the hogger was called on the carpet as someone with the railroad brass had spotted the train running with the verboten Mars light package activated. For reasons unknown but probably cost reasons they kept the Mars light prohibition going despite making other visibility improvements such as rotating amber beacons on locomotive and commuter cab car roofs, red flashing beacons on cabooses in place of the reflector paddles and even a short lived use aircraft style white xenon strobes rear facing on cab cars in the aftermath of the IC crash around that time as well. Mars lights eventually returned in 77 with the arrival of the RTA F40ph's and a year so later working at a gas station near the tracks spotted an F on commuter trains with not only a working Mars setup but in classic CNW passenger livery that would eventually transfer from the commuter pool and become part of the CNW presidential F fleet.

@@NorthKYtrainssirensandgaming03 oh, yeah, I mean he might wait now since there’s going to be an update for it at some point
Is this a newer version of the mod because I don't have any of those customization options
Yeah this is brand new as of last night - should've mentioned that in the video. He's pushing these changes soon, be sure to update!
where is the link to beeman's mods?
Do you realize that the music was overwhelming the sound effects that you were trying to show?
Can you do dda40x loco or a big boy loco mods
can someone explain why they used gyro lights?
It was to draw attention, it worked in similar to how flashing ditch lights work on some modern locomotives. Basically a safety feature
The mod look good
I’m don’t know how to mod but if I did I’d be making an Alco RS-3
WOW!
I have it and its very good
Why does it say GP38-2, when this is a GP38? Other than that, the mod looks awesome! - Sid
Just want to correct my saying I have used GP-38 and SD-40 not GP-40
Does Beeman have any plans for a GP40? Ever since I heard that he was working on a 38, I've been praying for a 40
Let’s get caught up with the older motive power before jumping into 3rd Gen diesels 😂
@@AppalachianMountaineer1863 all we're missing is the GP35 and a few odd switchers. We're practically there already XD
tbh all youd need to do (for the most part) is add a third radiator fan and change the sound files (i know its easier said than done lol)
@@shawndoyle7531 we need the GP30, I love those ugly hunchbacks.
But I agree it wouldn’t be impossible to adapt the model for a passible GP40, the trucks would need changed I don’t think the 40s ever ran those older style of EMD trucks
@@AppalachianMountaineer1863 I know I'm asking a lot here but what are the chances of getting the high hood variants of all of these units? It could probably just be a selectable customization
@@shawndoyle7531 I think that’s something that has been discussed, it won’t be a selectable option it’ll likely be a new model.
Does anyone know if beeman has plans to add more engines to the game? I’d like to help support him if anyone knows if he has a discord.
it would have been better if at 23:05 if you cut out the music so we can hear the cool sounds too. :(
I'd kill for a sd60f
