    Hi FYI ,if you want to access the spring behind the top pulley you can .look underneath the tube that contains the spring you will find a little oblong rectangular window port with a cover . Remove this cover not easy , have to pry it out you will then see a c clip similar to the one on derailleur hanger bolt.Remove this and it will all come apart, reverse order to reassemble.Have fun and good luck.

    You CAN take the cage off, there is a tab, you have to squeeze it out, and underneath there will be a c clip, pop it an there you go.

    I've had Sora rear mechs develop lateral play quite quickly. For a budget 9 speed rear mech I find the CNC'd Microshift Marvo XE works well.

    You can remove that part, it has a small panel that is removed with a micro screwdriver, then gains access to the circle inside which is again is fiddly but doable the ‘little lock’ is called a circle clip
    With regards to the greasing of the rest of the item, a more preferable grease would be a silicon lube …
    Can I ask if you’ve had any formal engineering training in anyway?
    Thank you for the video though it does show how to gain access to bits that most people would not know about

    If you stop the video At 7:22 you can see the plastic piece that snaps into the housing . You have to remove that piece my prying it up,Once you remove that piece you turn the c clamp around so you see the 2 ends and put 2 small screwdriver on both sides and push the c clamp down then you can pull it apart to get to the spring inside . There are a few videos that show this . One is titled Fixing Shimano Sora Rear Derailleur With Slipped Cage .

    I've went through 2 cassettes, 2 chains, and 3 lower brackets and the first replacement of the bushed Shimano jockey wheels is happening today. I never greased them as I've been taught the plastic/nylon was self lubricating and grease would deteriorate them. Maybe I'll start keeping them lubed with some PTFE chain oil? Or I suppose a non petroleum based grease like you have here on the video would be better and stick around longer if it doesn't attract dirt/grit.

  • @piotrmichalak5093
    @piotrmichalak5093 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the video it was really helpful. I did as you said but IMO it's a chain that's making the squeeking noise. I did the same service as you did but it did not help. Even with massive amount of grease. The chain, on the other hand, bends both ways on those little wheels and makes the sound only on few pins while bending on.

      That could be something as simple as a bent derailleur hanger or poorly indexed gears. An LBS should be able to easily diagnose your problem. I've had my Sora groupset for several years, keep it well maintained and it's as smooth as the first day. I'm willing to take the weight penalty in exchange for having little fear of damaging on gravel/offroad rights because the components are inexpensive.

    First of all the pulleys are very conventional. Bearings in the pulleys is quite rare- and provides little actual advantage. Secondly- derailleur s need grease. Third- why on earth would you care if the derailleur makes a minor squeaks-so long as it works??? And finally WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH THE BLACK GLOVES? Bikes do not carry the risk of pathogens.

    • @aacc8466
      @aacc8466 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Riding on a set of nicely lubed pulleys does make a difference. The ride feels smoother and this translates into less fatigue on the road over long rides. Bearings are not rare, you just have to pay more for them which again this is a budget group set. You definitely want to wear gloves because the degreaser will mess up your hands and plus makes for riding your bike unpleasant when you grease up your handlebars and leave finger marks all over your bike. You want to have pride in your work.

    • @joeg3741
      @joeg3741 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aacc8466 i will admit that there is a VERY SLIGHT performance increase with freshly greased pulleys or bearings in your pullies. May amount to as much as 6 inches every 1000 miles. Now about the gloves- most serious chemicals will dissolve them. The rest wash out with soap and water

YEP thats what I mean by fatigue. And better the gloves get washed out then my hands. You don't want to get your bike dirty after just cleaning it. Anyways have a good day.
