The nerve wracking bit for me was making sure that we were going in at the right time. I knew that once we were in it was just leading lines, marks and a steady hand on the wheel. Fortunately, when the time came, I knew the time was right when I saw all the locals charging under the bridge
Liverpool and Preston share similar problems for getting out, but the local sailors will have plenty of good advice. The Isle of Man will be open to visitors again at the end of March, so that will give you more options
@@SailingYachtSaltyLassThanks for the reply girls.👍. I had enough trouble getting in 😧. Sailed up from Southampton in October and the most nerve wracking bit was trying to keep the keel out of the Ribble silt. Nicholson 32.
For some reason, this comment and about a dozen others has only just turned up in our comments section so I apologise for the late reply. A Nicholson is a great boat, a friend of ours has one and sails it around the Irish Sea and has been out to the Azores as well. I am sure you will have loads of fun in it
Great tips as always. Our wish list are Liverpool and Menai straits. John was there with Navy in 1996. Nearly broached off Anglesey (scary with 3 children on deck)
Anglesey has scary waters. We heard enough stories from the racing yachts when we were members of Liverpool Yacht Club to ensure that we went through the Swellies. Of course, they then told us tales of Caernarfon Bar......... 😲😲
Last time I was in Liverpool was 1996 with the Navy. We have yet to visit with Wavedancer. Yvonne has never been to Liverpool so on her bucket list of places to visit to visit.
Getting in is easy, getting out requires commitment and good weather! Once you are on the outgoing tide, you are leaving. Nearest shelter is Conwy 8 hours west ...
Liverpool does feature in episodes from time to time, but being a marina with a sea-lock we where often busy going in and out and therefore too busy to film. Is it somewhere you are intending to go to?
Outstanding girls. I will never, did I say never? Go to Chicken Rock! Really looking forward to the North Channel to Ardnamurchan episode. I can guess what a few of them will be: Strangford Bar, Fairhead to Torr Head, Mull of Kintyre and Sanda, to say nothing of Corryvreckan.
We never had a winter aboard without the insulation because it was one of our first jobs so we have only a few weeks in early 2018 to compare it to. We feel that it has helped as the areas we insulated now have less condensation - you will never stop it all. We certainly do not get cold when aboard and during the recent cold weather, when it was -6°C at night, we were +20°C inside. We did use different thicknesses and we feel that 10mm should be the minimum. Good luck with your project.
Wait until you see next weeks video! Is the Irish Sea safe? Perhaps it is better to say it is a place to be cautious. The strong tidal streams and the lack of shelter in many places mean that you have to plan carefully, but it is worth sailing. Surely Norway must be similar in many areas?
West coast of Islay easily gets my vote. Looks like the saints of old encountered it as it appears in the book of Armagh. It is quick though, 12 knots with 6 knots boat speed. Never again!
@@SailingYachtSaltyLass :) I recognise the push buttons, and the steel rod up to the stays. We hired a Bavaris 38 in St Malo a few years back, a nice boat!
Another bucket list place on Wavedancer the Swellies. We crossed the bridge on foot as recon when we were in Holyhead in 2008

Nice one ladies. Sail Safe Guys, Ant, Cid & the pooch crew.
Thanks!
New to sailing and its going to be my only way out of the Marina ( Preston ) so great to know what I've signed up for. Thanks for posting 😉

Brilliant vid ladies; loved it. Especially number 3/2a/2
Very informative looking forward to next wks already
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you.
Done most of those around Anglesey. Couldn’t agree more with what you guys say. Planning and timing is key to them all.
The more we sail, the more we find the same 😄
What a fantastic video! Thanks for the heads up on pretty much most of the ports I'll be visiting in about 3 weeks time!
Have fun. It is an interesting area to sail with lots of challenges. Glad you found the vid helpful 👍
Loved this video ladies very infomative enjoy more of these stay safe
Thanks Sara 👍 Stay safe yourself 👍👍
I'm zooming at Bay Sea School all today and will pass-on this video to class. Highly educational for newby sailors. Thanks! 🙃
That is high praise, thank you and enjoy your sailing school.
Great Video, very useful for passage planning.
Glad it was helpful!
Great stuff as ever - "Are we doing number 3?" - brilliant laugh from you both - no canned laughter lol
We cannot afford canned laughter! 😆
thank you we ''round the buoy boys'' salute your seamanship.
Thank you, but was more like "clip on and hold on"... hopefully we are now wiser 😆
Love hearing about real experiences... Looking forward to part 2! 👌
Coming soon! Well... next week 😃😃

You are right about Corryvrecken! We will be saying nothing because we made sure that we never went near it 😆
Bert nice episode!
Thank you. I hope you also enjoy our follow-up episode as well
I am Paulus and utterly approve this video for those go Irish... Thanks Lassies
Rock on Paulus!!!
Hi ladies, want to ask you, its been 2yrs since you did your insulation. Is it effective? I'm asking as I have to do mine now.
Fair winds to you.

Oh😱 after watching this video we begin to reconsider the whole of the Irish Sea. Are there any safe places over there at all?

We will try that one next time....... maybe.... 😆
Thats a Bavaria isnt it?
Yes. A Bavaria 36 2003 build and therefore 37' 4" in length 😀

We like her 😀
You never fail to impress me. 18:48
Using DuckDuckGo search engine, well done. 👌
Thanks
