What if we had a tv show that’s exactly like the hunger games in the capitol but everything’s an act. Different tributes every year. We would se the reaping, parade, interviews and the game. I would definitely watch that.
That's exactly why this kind of "Arena fight" entertainment already existed in the past because we are interested to see who is going to win in the drama. They could have also done it in other ways but letting two Gladiators kill each other was the cheapest way back then.

Honestly the rate that society is going I believe that something like the hunger games as a reality tv show could definitely happen! I feel like it is highly likely if their was another world war or the countries begin to turn on one and other leading to many countries begin killed off with only a few remains in poor condition all except one (North America or China) due to their strong forces and big numbers
The world we live in now already represents Panem but just a bit less. Europe and North-America basically get everything they want, with the poorer Africa and Asia working for them. And look around you, more and more people start to wear outrageous clothes and dye their hair, heck I might be the biggest one of them. And be honest, when was the last time you ordered something from amazon, wish etc. without even worrying for a second about what the people making it have to go through.

We could so easily become like the capitol, potentially with the first world making one big government (unity in strength) to go against all the other countries. Anyone poor in the first world or who doesn’t comply could be outcast to live far away where they cannot be seen. I wouldn’t be surprised if something like the hunger games happened in the near future tbh. Not after 2020
This is me and my friend’s theory: The coronavirus wipes out all of South America and all the other weak countries and people. Everyone barely has any food. A GREATER Depression occurs and all the remaining countries fight for the very few resources. In the process everywhere gets completely destroyed from war and sickness and is uninhabitable except for North America. The “winner” (Capital) takes control and all the citizens (Districts) (“losers”) try to rebel which leads to the Capital starting the Hunger Games.
I feel quite similar but instead of America winning people go into a national isolation to deal with it and other things could happen. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if Maze Runner happened in England. A disease that is killing people and doesn't effect certain young people?

There's a very likely chance of this happening imo. People are sometimes to blinded by media and will believe anything especially if their favourite celebrity is involved.
I think the comparison between nazi Germany and the hunger games panem is genius. Both country's had a dictator who slowly rose to power and people unknownly let them rise until they didn't have any control in them doing so. A lot of scenes in the hunger games remind me of the horrible liquidation of the gettos in Germany all them years ago. I think it could become a world wide video game that teams from around the world play against each other to the ‘death’ but it isn’t real. I know I would get behind that but I doubt it would ever be able to be what it is in the story just because there are far too many rights activists around the world and it just can’t be legal.
I mean hunger games would be a cool TV show as long as no one actually dies. Maybe do it with prop weapons or paintball? Like you get hit in a vital area with a nerf dart or hit with a paintball gun you’re out
I don’t disagree completely that something like the Hunger Games couldn’t happen. After all, if we look back in time, there are times when things that are close to the hunger games happened. The Romans had fights to the death, in a Colosseum, and in Medieval London, there were public executions. But I also feel as if this series (and other dystopian books that deal with similar things) could somewhat serve as a warning, and something to almost learn from. Something saying “Don’t end up like this” or “You could end up like this if you don’t change” Sorry for the length of this.
Akshully the gladiatorial games were rarely fought to the death. Gladiators were very expensive to maintain. So it would be a waste to get a gladiator just for them to die immediately

That be really interesting to see. Maybe they’ll address that in the new book (though I’m not getting my hopes up very high for it after Cursed Child). It’d be interesting to see how they handled trans people. Would they get to choose what gender they were pooled with in the reaping, or would they be forced to be in their birth gender’s bowl? If they actually do allow trans people to choose their gender, what would they do with someone who is nonbinary? I doubt they would let them out of the reaping, though I can see in the first 10 or so years of the hunger games people trying to get out of it by claiming that they’re nonbinary. But would the capital even allow people to change from the gender they were assigned at birth? I don’t believe there are any trans or nonbinary characters in the Hunger Games (though I haven’t read/watched them in a while) so it wouldn’t be a far stretch. I’d love to see your take on it!

They have allot of flamboyant clothibg and Body modifikation , but that does not mean that they are hbtq friendly. And even of they are, how is the view of queer People in the districts, it could even be argued that being gendernonconforming would be seen as something 'capitol-esk' and therefore despised. If a queer person would be reaped im sure they would probobly fetishise the hell out of it for a Good show while not rly caring for the individuals own Comfort. I love the Hunger Games because of how political it can get, I’m actually making a comparative essay for school comparing 1984 and The Hunger Games, as in what are the means you need towards an effective revolution. As in do I think the HG are possible? Well, I really think it can happen slowly, with the USA leaving the UNHRC, I really don’t think there could be a more blatant disregard of human rights than that.

I can totally imagine the hunger games being around right now. Not within the dictatorship of panem, but as a reality tv show. The show is basically the hunger games, people aren’t reaped, but can choose to participate. 24 people are chosen and their rights taken away, in some long and difficult contract. Allowing the law to be paused for a time period for these people in an arena. These people have complete choice in going into the games, nothing is forced. I can imagine lots of dare devils wanting to do this. Skilled fighters, Hunters, all round aggressive and violent people. Obviously for the grand prize of whatever sum of money.
I don't think it would take a war. I think sooner or later the Hunger Games could take place as real reality t.v. through choice. People would be offered the Victor reward as riches and comfort for life if they choose to compete, and if they win. The only thing is, once they've entered the arena they wouldn't be allowed to change their minds and leave. It would really be a fight to the death with only one person standing at the end. Although if it did happen, it would only happen once.
It makes sense and it’s realistic. We could go into war, other countries could go away from natural causes like hurricanes, they could rename our country (there was also originally 13 colonies like the 13 districts) and overpopulation could cause the Hunger Games to happen.

I don’t think the Huger Games could be stomached or enjoyed in real life. There was a reality show a few years ago called Whodunnit? that was a standard competition reality show centered around a murder mystery. Contestants were judged on their ability to solve “murders”. The murders were obviously staged and the “Victims” were the contestants eliminated in the previous episode. The show was a little campy in its staging, but was extremely interesting and trying to solve the mystery each episode was very entertaining, however, the show was cancelled almost immediately after it’s season finale. The reason? People either 1) believed the show was actually killing people (how people can be so stupid is beyond me, but whatever) and were outraged, or 2) knew it was fake, but were so disgusted with the premise of the contestants dying that they couldn’t watch it. The show had to start including interviews with the eliminated contestants in their death makeup at the end of each episode to ensure viewers that they were, in fact, alive.
I think that naked and afraid really shows how far people are willing to go for other people's entertainment. Of course naked and afraid doesn't have a fight to the death but it's like you said it's all about pushing yourself and trying to be the best. I watched an episode after watching this video and a competitor cut herself whilst making a shelter on day 1. I just couldn't help but think of what happened to Peeta during the 74th games, how Peeta had an injured leg and how he almost died from blood poisoning (in the book), he nearly lost his life for the Capitols entertainment, the people of naked and afraid are sent into a jungle with NO clothes on and this woman had just cut herself and then had to walk through the jungle-like that, she had the risk of her cut getting infected and having no way to clean it. Idk, in my opinion, I think that the woman was risking her life for people's entertainment much like how the tributes entertain the Capitol by fighting for their lives.
I would actually love to have hunger games in real life. It's 23 people for season don't sound like high cost. Cmon, millions poeple die every second. Wont be much difrence.

It is based heavily on the Roman arena. Even the names Caesar, Senica, Cato, and Cinna are taken from Roman history. It's not a stretch to think something like this could happen again.

They're making a real-life Squid Game for Netflix without the murders, does that count? Also, I know it's not real because it's a comic book and a novel, respectively, but Avengers Arena and Battle Royale (Japanese YA book) would have been a realistic glimpse of what a real-life Hunger Game would look like.
If it were to happen, I don't know that there would be a maximum age limit for Tributes. I definitely think there would be a minimum, but I really think that a greater mental effect would be achieved if children and adults were both in the games. It would definitely be more mentally scarring, which would in turn leave a lasting effect where people might think twice before uprising.
Wow what I noticed is that every year a hunger games game happens,23 tributes are killed but for all those years they killed 23 tributes, they lose 23 people in the community so that means 1,776 people are killed for all those years of the hunger games all together

I think this might actually happen but each country is a district (e.g the uk- district 7) and somewhere like China will be the capitol and they take two teens from each country and send them to an arena somewhere in the world.
I would love if in the future there would be some kind of virtual simulations where you can live an hunger games experience, but of course dying only in the simulation and not in the real life. sadly, it absolutely could happen.. i think suzanne collins' father was in the military, so i'm sure she was very much aware of the history of authoritarian governments when writing the books (just watch any doc/vlog of pyongyang to see a glimpse of a modern day 'capital city'), and we won't even get started on the rise of trump in the usa.. i'm sure suzanne was also calling back to the roman coliseum fights and drawing parallels to modern day reality shows like 'survivor', etc (i don't know if anyone has ever died while filming one of those shows, but i'm sure it's just a matter of time).. highly recommend jenny nicholson's video 'the worst reality show of all time' for an entertaining deep dive into how a poorly conceived reality show can go very very wrong (for a good time also check the comments section for a thread started by one of the actual contestants)
Read the epilogue in the book. The author was inspired by the embedding of troops in 2003 (if I recall correctly) and I believe Greek history in which something similar did happen. "All of this has happened before. All of this will happen again." My favorite line from Battlestar Galactica.

I actually thought about this once. I came up with the idea that the show takes place in one country every year. The tributes are chosen from that country and then they're placed in the arena made special for the games in that country. Each country having an arena they can make into whatever they wanted for the year.
People seem to forget that here in America, we have a reality TV personality for a President, one who has been featured in elimination type shows. Also, with social media, we've had things like TH-camrs create homeless people fight clubs and the like. The gap between where we are now and something like Panem is slippery and shorter than people might think. It wouldn't take much, especially with the governing party constantly looking the other way.
I've always wondered why children. Why not young adults for a better "show" I can't imagine 12 year olds being able to fend off the stronger older tributes

I don’t believe there are any trans or nonbinary characters in the Hunger Games (though I haven’t read/watched them in a while) so it wouldn’t be a far stretch. I’d love to see your take on it!
@@allielockwood that would be neat! Honestly it would be interesting to know how progressive the Capitol is when it comes to gender roles and expression. They have allot of flamboyant clothibg and Body modifikation , but that does not mean that they are hbtq friendly. And even of they are, how is the view of queer People in the districts, it could even be argued that being gendernonconforming would be seen as something 'capitol-esk' and therefore despised. If a queer person would be reaped im sure they would probobly fetishise the hell out of it for a Good show while not rly caring for the individuals own Comfort. I love the Hunger Games because of how political it can get, I’m actually making a comparative essay for school comparing 1984 and The Hunger Games, as in what are the means you need towards an effective revolution. As in do I think the HG are possible? Well, I really think it can happen slowly, with the USA leaving the UNHRC, I really don’t think there could be a more blatant disregard of human rights than that.
Personally I think The USA will become somthing like Panem by the end of the century or even sooner

And I know what you meant, but Italy is literally the same as America but 1) the language is more similar 2) it’s flipping Italy 3) it’s still got roman buildings. I can totally imagine the hunger games being around right now. Not within the dictatorship of panem, but as a reality tv show.
The show is basically the hunger games, people aren’t reaped, but can choose to participate. 24 people are chosen and their rights taken away, in some long and difficult contract. Allowing the law to be paused for a time period for these people in an arena. These people have complete choice in going into the games, nothing is forced.
I can imagine lots of dare devils wanting to do this. Skilled fighters, Hunters, all round aggressive and violent people. Obviously for the grand prize of whatever sum of money.
I don't think it would take a war. I think sooner or later the Hunger Games could take place as real reality t.v. through choice. People would be offered the Victor reward as riches and comfort for life if they choose to compete, and if they win. The only thing is, once they've entered the arena they wouldn't be allowed to change their minds and leave. It would really be a fight to the death with only one person standing at the end. Although if it did happen, it would only happen once.

It makes sense and it’s realistic. We could go into war, other countries could go away from natural causes like hurricanes, they could rename our country (there was also originally 13 colonies like the 13 districts) and overpopulation could cause the Hunger Games to happen.

I don’t think the Huger Games could be stomached or enjoyed in real life. There was a reality show a few years ago called Whodunnit? that was a standard competition reality show centered around a murder mystery. Contestants were judged on their ability to solve “murders”. The murders were obviously staged and the “Victims” were the contestants eliminated in the previous episode. The show was a little campy in its staging, but was extremely interesting and trying to solve the mystery each episode was very entertaining, however, the show was cancelled almost immediately after it’s season finale. The reason? People either 1) believed the show was actually killing people (how people can be so stupid is beyond me, but whatever) and were outraged, or 2) knew it was fake, but were so disgusted with the premise of the contestants dying that they couldn’t watch it. The show had to start including interviews with the eliminated contestants in their death makeup at the end of each episode to ensure viewers that they were, in fact, alive.
I think that naked and afraid really shows how far people are willing to go for other people's entertainment. Of course naked and afraid doesn't have a fight to the death but it's like you said it's all about pushing yourself and trying to be the best. I watched an episode after watching this video and a competitor cut herself whilst making a shelter on day 1. I just couldn't help but think of what happened to Peeta during the 74th games, how Peeta had an injured leg and how he almost died from blood poisoning (in the book), he nearly lost his life for the Capitols entertainment, the people of naked and afraid are sent into a jungle with NO clothes on and this woman had just cut herself and then had to walk through the jungle-like that, she had the risk of her cut getting infected and having no way to clean it. Idk, in my opinion, I think that the woman was risking her life for people's entertainment much like how the tributes entertain the Capitol by fighting for their lives.

Also, I know it's not real because it's a comic book and a novel, respectively, but Avengers Arena and Battle Royale (Japanese YA book) would have been a realistic glimpse of what a real-life Hunger Game would look like.
If it were to happen, I don't know that there would be a maximum age limit for Tributes. I definitely think there would be a minimum, but I really think that a greater mental effect would be achieved if children and adults were both in the games. It would definitely be more mentally scarring, which would in turn leave a lasting effect where people might think twice before uprising.
I could see this happening in the future but I highly doubt you would actually kill the person it would be like a extremely realistic vr
Wow what I noticed is that every year a hunger games game happens,23 tributes are killed but for all those years they killed 23 tributes, they lose 23 people in the community so that means 1,776 people are killed for all those years of the hunger games all together

I think this might actually happen but each country is a district (e.g the uk- district 7) and somewhere like China will be the capitol and they take two teens from each country and send them to an arena somewhere in the world.

sadly, it absolutely could happen.. i think suzanne collins' father was in the military, so i'm sure she was very much aware of the history of authoritarian governments when writing the books (just watch any doc/vlog of pyongyang to see a glimpse of a modern day 'capital city'), and we won't even get started on the rise of trump in the usa.. i'm sure suzanne was also calling back to the roman coliseum fights and drawing parallels to modern day reality shows like 'survivor', etc (i don't know if anyone has ever died while filming one of those shows, but i'm sure it's just a matter of time).. highly recommend jenny nicholson's video 'the worst reality show of all time' for an entertaining deep dive into how a poorly conceived reality show can go very very wrong (for a good time also check the comments section for a thread started by one of the actual contestants)

Read the epilogue in the book. The author was inspired by the embedding of troops in 2003 (if I recall correctly) and I believe Greek history in which something similar did happen. "All of this has happened before. All of this will happen again." My favorite line from Battlestar Galactica.

I actually thought about this once. I came up with the idea that the show takes place in one country every year. The tributes are chosen from that country and then they're placed in the arena made special for the games in that country. Each country having an arena they can make into whatever they wanted for the year.
People seem to forget that here in America, we have a reality TV personality for a President, one who has been featured in elimination type shows. Also, with social media, we've had things like TH-camrs create homeless people fight clubs and the like. The gap between where we are now and something like Panem is slippery and shorter than people might think. It wouldn't take much, especially with the governing party constantly looking the other way.
Second Thought is a TH-cam channel that did a video very similiar to this. Have you heard of him?
