What a great teacher. Very little people come close to replicating the teaching ability of Danaher and his team - Mikey has done exactly that. Explains what his goals are from each position, why these are the goals, and gives practical ways of achieving these goals. Many people might just see the video is 14 minutes long, and decide to skim through it, skip around, or avoid watching it entirely. If you sit through and try to soak in as much knowledge as possible, Mikey will give you conceptual insights that will carry you to black belt and beyond.
Getting that heel up on the ribcage definitely makes this ankle lock feel a lot more like a heel hook lol. Seriously, amazing detail with the starting-at-the-pinky-toe-to-bend-the-foot thing!
This was an amazing lesson. Thank you for your explanation of the science behind how the foot works and where we should focus our efforts. Truly appreciate you brothers. - Adonis from Gracie Sports Academy in Norwalk, CT.
Musumeci, your analysis of human body mechanism is amazing. Everything comes together and makes sense. Very impressive. By the way, Musumeci has such a beautiful and and an adolescent smile. But I know he can pull every limb of my body with that boyish smile. Scary.
It’s insane how he’s such a great guy, but straight up laughs about the best way to send someone’s foot to Valhalla. Amazing understanding of technique
I've had success with straight footlocks, but I'll definitely try this approach! Thank you so much. 2 great people coming together to spread knowledge!
He has the exact same mindset of HELIO GRACIE. Studying the human body, trying to make it more and more efficient all the time. Funnily enough HELIO was also very unassuming physically. Rickson Gracie once mentioned him being very strong was detrimental to his learning perfect techniques, since it was soooo tempting for him to simply force it with power. He had to make an extra mental effort not to succumb to the temptation.
As a cat scan technologist Mikey is speaking my language basically put your hand just below the patellar tendon push on the tendon which will prevent dorsiflexion of the foot and keep the foot in plantar flexion grab the cross collar turn and your there .Got it 👍👍👍thanks Mikey
I understand how he got to this because when you're short and you like leg locks the hard part isn't getting there as much as controlling the foot. Naturally the foot is in your face, so you grab the heel and lock the foot between your neck and shoulder kind of like a shotput. It's mostly because that's the best grip you can get and trying to jam someone's foot in your armpit who knows exactly what you're trying to do isn't so simple....this is. The fact that this kid naturally came across the same thing that I'd bet countless other people who trained did, and he decided to analyze, test and teach it to others is what the martial arts is all about. The name should go to who takes the time to expose it to the most eyes, and things can always change. A Von Flue can become a Von Preux before you know it. I also just watched Ghost Dog again, so maybe I'm being too philosophical.
Both of them SO kind that I'm sure if Mikey break Bernardo's leg Bernardo will reply "It is OK"
And, "great honour".
Lol 😂 true alphas
@@SwampCityRadio1974 Man, you came just before me. I wanted to say this.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry"
"No it's ok..."
Thank you for break leg, now i understand. It was really cool to feel the pop.
He didnt just teach a technique, he brought light into something that was invisible to us.

Have you got his nogi instructional ?
Gotta respect that level of understanding of the technique.
Geezus.. Even though he was JUST explaining it, I was afraid for Bernardo.. Mikey is a total beast.. What an incredibly gifted BJJ-er
Literally the two nicest people in jiu jitsu. I would love to hear these two on a podcast or both do an entire instructional together!!
Getting that heel up on the ribcage definitely makes this ankle lock feel a lot more like a heel hook lol. Seriously, amazing detail with the starting-at-the-pinky-toe-to-bend-the-foot thing!
That's what I thought too 🤩
Look at that squat on 1:28. That's amazing. Been working on my squat and it's nowhere near that
Asian squat

What a completely contagious smile and laugh !
So good. "Why do I do this?"
What a great explanation of each detail.
What I like about Mikey is that he loves to teach in detail.
I like that he is a little sadistic lol
Such a nice and respectful person. He always smiles no matter what happens
The heel on the chest is such a critical detail, once it's there you can either go for the break on the foot or the knee by rotating it.
Dude it's practically a legalized heel hook for white belts 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
@@HansDavidianLook up "Aoki Lock" and thank me later ;)
@@andrewferris1903 God damn is that legal too for all levels?

I really enjoyed this video. Thank you. Mikey’s enthusiasm comes through for sure.
3:28 Bernardo just ogre grips Mikey's ankle like a small wrist.
First time I heard about this guy was two days ago. Love him! He's incredibly detailed in his explanations. Humble and polite as well
Two of the best and nicest guys in bjj ever!
I've had success with straight footlocks, but I'll definitely try this approach!

Parabens pelo trabalho Bernardo, mandando muito bem. Thanks for explaining the position mike, much respect from floripa.
I think this kid might be a genius. No joke. I’ve met a few geniuses and the speak like him.
He's definitely on the spectrum. Cool to see what such focus can elucidate.
Great explanation, Mike.
Now I'm ready to do this to my boss, lol
This is one of the most detailed teaser instructionals I’ve seen here. Very impressive.

Mickey the type of guy to submit you and write a letter to your family apologising. Awesome character.
This is so excellent. You are a hero!
Outstanding.
Mikey has such a kind smile! Reminds me of Seta Sōjirō 😈
Makes perfect sense to understand the anatomy of that which you are breaking.

Savant Mikey ...
he should be presenting disneyland channel lol, awesome instructional
How old is this kid. My God! He's lightyears ahead of his age I feel.
Does the butterfly-ashi put your top leg in danger of an estima lock? It looks like a vulnerability to me.
This guy lives and breathes jiu-jitsu. Just think what he will be able to do in 5 years.
Great, but misses crucial details on the placement of the butterfly ashi.
Who was Mikey competing against with the finals they are talking about? Is there footage?
