@@meepx13 Sorry, not your fault. I just get a little heated when I see people just making full squares of drills when they could be making so much better use of the drill area on the diagonals. You can use gyroscopes to solve this problem. I use override on my actual mining ship to prevent any accidental rotation, but I guess turning is still a problem.
The irony here is immediately I see plenty of room for at least 6 or 8 refineries behind the ship, which can process the stone as fast as it is being mined at a moderate pace. Attach some ejectors just in case as well, and maybe a pair of jump drives behind the batteries so the amount of batteries can be more justified, and suddenly the ship isn't so bad I think...
I actually tried that, and did it. The refineries require more nuance than you’d expect, as they can easel get gummed up with junk, but the real issue is the power draw. I ended up having a few low-power refineries, a few faster ones when there’s excess power to burn, general purpose ore storage, and dedicated storage for stone and ice. Once the stone or ice became full I’d decouple the storage unit and leave it behind.

I didn't think about the diagonals. Thanks!
longer is always worse than wider, since you get wiggles you may end up digging at a curve and hit the tail of your ship

just make it a worm :P (double hinge on rotor to have freely moving segments, wheels as bumpers)

@FurryEskimo : lol. Sometimes it's worth a shot. I designed many ships just for a laugh myself, and then ended up designing something semi functional.

Watch out for those invincible death voxels. Nothing kills more miners.

I’m guessing he’s talking about those tiny little floating “dots” where’s there’s just barely anything in a voxel, but it can still dig into your ship
You should call it "The Butterknife"

@@meepx13 same could be said for any mining ship however.
Make it long and tol, and it could cut a good chunk for a hangar or base.

Wouldn't it be better if it spun on the axis and carved a giant round hole?
Yes, but it would be really slow and hard to do, because of collision with the asteroid
