Off to a really great start sir!! I see a yoda head in the background!!:) will you be doing him in silicone too?:)
HI, great vid. Very keen to see how you make a silicon copy... I'm thinking a plaster mold and melt the clay out?
Actually I will use the same material urethane rubber to mold the new bald head :)
I've been trying this technique of casting with oil-based clay. I'm using Chavant NSP medium instead of Monster Clay and I'm getting really bad air bubbles all over the surface. I've even tried brushing the first layer on but it didn't make much of a difference... it seems that the clay hardens as it hits the silicone surface. Do you have any suggestions?
I have never used any kind of chavant so i dont know if it has sulphur in it or not or if that may be effecting the casting , I would recommend monster clay as that is what I have been getting great results , and yes clay does tend to start creating a shell once it hits the cold mold , I actually have not had that problem , I pour it in slush it everywhere by rotating the mold , then I go in a fill it . Also make sure you don't over heat the clay , do intervals of 30 sec if needed , and allow the hot clay to help melt the rest , I can't remember where I read that over heating or boiling the clay can effect the end casting , hope this is of some help my friend sorry for not being so knowledgable on all clays
Rafael
Rafael Robledo Jr I managed to get hold of the Monster Clay and it has a MUCH lower melting point than Chavant. And, it stayed liquid for far longer! My first cast looks great!
I also found the Chavant to be really sticky when trying to make modifications so I'll post a vid to compare the two.
Saludos.
